Chapter 1698: Chapter 1690: Rehearsal (Part 3)

PM, at the venue of the dinner party.

This dinner party was held at the center of a castle in an amusement park. It was open-space, right in the castle hall.

The news that there were celebrities in the amusement park had spread widely—one person tells ten, ten tell a hundred—until everyone in the park knew. The crew didn’t rent out the entire amusement park, deliberately allowing celebrities to mingle with the curious public. But it’s hard for visitors to encounter celebrities; they’re using fast-track corridors, unless one is very fortunate to be grouped with them for activities, otherwise, you only get a fleeting glimpse while queueing.

A large group of photographers and cameramen surrounded the celebrities as they moved around different locations, with bodyguards clearing the way and assistants following behind to ensure the crowd doesn’t disturb their tasks.

But for the dinner party, they didn’t rent out the entire restaurant either. Ordinary diners could come in, although the hall only seated three hundred people. After excluding a few special guests and setting up isolation areas, only two hundred seats remained.

Of course, those two hundred seats weren’t available to just anyone. The restaurant is quite pricey to begin with, and the evening buffet ticket price was raised even higher. Only a few people bought tonight’s dinner ticket. When the majority heard that stars were present and tried to buy tickets, they were already sold out.

Since this was a castle, the setting somewhat resembled the grand hall in Hogwarts from Harry Potter. Gorgeous crystal chandeliers and bright candles above, two or three rows of long tables below. Every four or five seats, a Baroque-style candle tower was placed in the middle of the table. Coupled with intentionally vintage walls and oil paintings, it looked quite authentic.

At six o’clock, the guests entered. Although diners in the back couldn’t clearly see their faces, the crew prepared a special treat by randomly giving each diner a signed photo of a celebrity.

After all, there were just two hundred diners and eight guests; each guest needed to sign a few photos casually, which wasn’t too exhausting.

Since it was a dinner party, guests were expected to dress up: they had been running around all day, from the haunted house to the roller coasters, sweating under the hot sun.

The male guests wore suits, and the female guests wore dresses. Everyone looked handsome and stylish, even the two senior guests dressed in beautiful evening attire. As the event was a romance show, they stood one-on-one, with each pair’s outfits matching perfectly.

Except Xia Siyu.

Only Xia Siyu hadn’t changed her clothes, still in her red tracksuit. She stood out among the glamorous crowd.

Humph, she was still upset. Why should Bo Yan wear nice clothes? He hasn’t apologized yet; she wouldn’t dress prettily for him!

Few dared to mess with Xia Siyu. Previously, only Qin Baizhou at Huixing could persuade her. Now, she was independent and the master of her own fate, doing as she pleased. Neither Bo Yan nor the crew could control her.

Anyway, she was pretty enough to be reckless. Recently focused on filming, she was known for losing weight during shoots, but would quickly gain ten pounds when filming ended and she indulged herself. Wearing sports attire without makeup, her hair in a simple ponytail, she didn’t look bad; rather, she had a youthful vibe.

Compared to Shang Feifei and Zhou Weiwei beside her, Shang Feifei was only a year older, Zhou Weiwei the same age. Maybe it was her natural gift, her smooth life until thirty, her carefree attitude, or perhaps the outfits, she didn’t show any signs of aging, looking much younger than them.

The director invited several guests to the stage to meet the diners. After the introduction, the dinner began. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Xia Siyu paid no mind to the surprises and focused on her meal. Following the order of a Western dinner: appetizer, soup, then two main courses. Different dishes were paired with different wines; those who couldn’t drink had alternative beverages. Everyone at the table kept glancing at her and at Bo Yan — they knew best that Xia Siyu and Bo Yan seemed to have argued today. They were distant all day.

With Xia Siyu eating intently and Bo Yan composed, the situation left everyone guessing; unclear whether they truly quarreled or were acting to stir up conversation.

Before the last dessert, the crew suddenly announced a performance program. The diners welcomed the entertainment. Next, a senior guest’s daughter, wearing a mask, performed a lively dance. They intended for her to debut, having sent her overseas for training as a trainee.

During the performance, dessert was served. The senior guest got the ring she wished for in her dessert. At the same time, the dance reached its end, ending with a pose. This ending pose was unique; the daughter walked off the stage, took a bouquet from her partner’s hands, and presented it to her mother: "Mom and Dad, happy twentieth wedding anniversary!"

Though it indeed was their twentieth anniversary, it wasn’t exactly today. Yet nobody cared about such trivial details at the moment. The senior guest looked surprised, and her husband knelt, placing the ring on her finger. The family hugged together.

Admittedly cheesy, watching from the sidelines, even skeptical onlookers cheered enthusiastically, enjoying the spectacle. People gathered simply for the fun of it, much like a wedding, despite the rehearsal, there’s always someone moved to tears on stage.

Even other guest couples were touched, admiring the senior couple’s twenty-year romance and harmonious marriage, with no rumors of infidelity or divorce. While their showcase was paving the way for their daughter’s debut, twenty years of marriage wasn’t fake.

Watching on, Zhou Weiwei held Zhang Wenyi’s hand admiringly: "That’s wonderful, such companionship." Zhang Wenyi nodded lightly: "We should stay together too."

Han Yifan looked at Shang Feifei, Shang Feifei looked back; neither spoke.

Only Xia Siyu kept eating, while Bo Yan silently held his wine glass.

**

After the family ended their meal, everyone walked through the corridor to watch the water screen film.

The water screen film was on the southeast side, near the water park, but the viewing area was at the central plaza. It was still hot out, and the film was played to help cool down. The content was a fairy tale, but at the end, Zhang Wenyi’s voice was heard: "The greatest luck of my life was meeting you."
