Chapter 64: Chapter 61: You Don’t Know Shit About Rookies

With 2:26 left in the game, Su Xi used his incredibly fluid body and astonishingly long arms to once again steal the ball from Collison.

Billy Parker let out a series of shrieks: "Wow! Wow! Wooow!"

"Oh my God! Forgive me for getting so excited, but if you saw Little Sheep Su Xi’s stats, you’d be screaming too. His steals have reached double digits. This is his 10th steal of the game, and he’s just set a new NCAA all-time record!"

"He also has 15 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds."

"Damn it, he’s without a doubt going to be the first player in NCAA history to get a quadruple-double in the championship game! And if you count his 2 blocks, I can guarantee you, there has never been a more complete player in history."

Billy Parker’s shrieks sent a thrill through the more than 30 million viewers watching at home. The game’s ratings were rapidly approaching the record set by the legendary NCAA championship showdown between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

Everyone could see how Su Xi was dominating Kansas on both ends of the court in the second half.

But who would have thought he had been quietly putting up such a monstrous stat line?

Billy Parker’s shrieks also cued the arena’s production crew, who flashed Su Xi’s stats onto all the massive screens in the building. When everyone saw Su Xi’s line: 15 points, 11 assists, 10 steals, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks...

An irrepressible roar erupted throughout the New Orleans Superdome Arena.

Even the Kansas fans were swept up in the collective astonishment.

Who could have imagined that Su Xi had quietly put up such a monstrous stat line?

Su Xi brought the ball up the court and passed it once more to Carmeron Anthony.

With Simeon defending him, Anthony threw a pump fake.

Meanwhile, Su Xi was boxing out Syracuse in the paint.

Anthony had only taken four shots so far in the second half, making two. Now, he took his fifth shot... CLANK!

The ball hit the front of the rim.

A crowd instantly formed under the basket, with Collison and Graves both fighting for the rebound.

Su Xi was about to head back on defense.

However, Collison and Graves crashed into each other. Graves instinctively tipped the ball backward. Reacting in a flash, Su Xi leaped up and corralled the ball with his long arms. He took one dribble, darting inside to evade the trap by Graves and Collison, and quickly flipped the ball up with his left hand... SWISH!

It dropped in softly.

86-72.

Syracuse University took a 14-point lead.

Su Xi’s stat line now stood at 17 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, 10 steals, and 2 blocks.

The Superdome Arena erupted in a tsunami of cheers.

University of Kansas coach Roy Williams had no choice but to call a timeout. ’This is Su Xi’s moment of glory, and Syracuse’s morale is through the roof. I have to call a timeout to break their momentum.’

At that moment, most of the people in the arena were on their feet, chanting Su Xi’s name. "Su! Su! Su!"

Then, it transformed into a unified chant: "MOP! MOP! MOP!"

Su Xi was caught completely off guard. ’Why is everyone suddenly going so wild?’

As his excited teammates rushed off the bench to mob him, he finally understood amidst the chaotic congratulations that he had gotten a massive quadruple-double, breaking the all-time NCAA record.

He looked up, and all the screens were displaying his stats.

He scanned the crowd and saw that everyone, including the NBA superstars, was giving him a standing ovation.

Everyone was celebrating Su Xi’s historic performance tonight.

"Jack! I knew you could do anything! I knew it!" Josh Peis yelled excitedly at Su Xi. "You’re a freaking god!"

Antonio was also ruffling Su Xi’s hair nonstop, letting out excited whoops.

Even Coach Jim Boham, forgetting his dignity as a head coach, unbuttoned his suit jacket and grabbed Su Xi by the shoulders, shaking him forcefully. "You did it! You did it! You did it!"

Without a doubt, Su Xi was becoming the one and only star of the game.

Su Xi hadn’t even been thinking about breaking records. ’I just wanted to win,’ he thought, ’and speed up my super talent fusion.’

Besides, he’d only gone into the paint to do the dirty work. Who would have thought that dirty work could lead to a massive quadruple-double?

The University of Kansas was stunned. Their players watched as Su Xi basked in the crowd’s adoration, the center of all attention.

They couldn’t even muster a shred of jealousy.

Su Xi deserved all of this.

From the moment he stepped onto the court in the second half, he had the proud Kansas team completely locked down. He exploited their weaknesses on both ends of the floor. He forced Collison, who had been as comfortable as a fish in water during the first half, into a struggle, causing turnover after turnover. Collison alone had contributed at least four of Su Xi’s steals in the second half.

Furthermore, Little Sheep Su Xi’s offense in the paint left Kansas’s perimeter players helpless. When they tried using their center to guard him, Su Xi would promptly kick the ball out to their tall shooters on the perimeter, who left Kansas’s smaller players looking on in despair. And on top of all that, the superstar scorer Cameron was always waiting on the wing.

Kansas was completely on the defensive on both ends of the court.

The game wasn’t over, but they already knew their chances were slim.

Although Coach Roy Williams was still over there, tirelessly encouraging his players to summon their last bit of courage and fight for the championship...

But Little Sheep Su Xi stood there like a towering, unscalable mountain. How could they possibly overcome that?

In that moment, everyone realized a crystal-clear fact: Su Xi had conquered the entire NCAA. He had reached the absolute pinnacle of the national tournament on his own terms. He had done exactly what he said he would.

"So this is the 1255 USD Little Sheep Su Xi had in his pocket?" the CBS host remarked emotionally. "Congratulations to him for using that 1255 USD to win all the glory tonight."

His words reminded many in the audience of something that had happened a month ago.

Most of the audience still remembered the first time Su Xi appeared on national television. He was sitting quietly beside Carmeron Anthony as the host gave him a hard time, claiming he was just a defensive player with a low status on the team, unable to decide the outcome of a game. The rookie Su Xi, neither arrogant nor humble, coolly pulled out 100 USD and asked the host, "You can say I have 100 USD in my hand, but you can’t say I *only* have 100 USD."

The host was dismissive, insisting that Su Xi only had 100 USD.

Then Su Xi pulled 1,255 USD out of his pocket, leaving the host completely speechless and embarrassed.

Now, Su Xi had pulled out his 1,255 USD in a different form.

A massive quadruple-double, a display of absolute dominance in the NCAA National Championship.

Who would dare say now that Little Sheep Su Xi can’t decide a game’s outcome?

Who would dare call Little Sheep Su Xi an arrogant, unknown nobody?

All those so-called geniuses who claimed they would teach Su Xi a lesson, where are you now?

Little Sheep Su Xi was basking in the screams and cheers of the entire crowd.

He was the greatest miracle-maker of the night.

Kobe Bryant clenched his fists tightly. He was beginning to understand why Su Xi had rejected Jessica Alba. He had witnessed with his own eyes Su Xi’s improvement on every level in this game; he was so much stronger than he had been in Boston just two weeks prior.

’I have to get him as a teammate.’

Larry Bird was filled with the same fiery conviction, and he too clenched his fists. His gaze was burning. The moment Su Xi’s massive quadruple-double appeared on the screens, his heart nearly leaped out of his chest.

He saw the immense progress Su Xi had made on this journey, saw him take charge in critical moments, saw the tenacious competitiveness in his eyes, saw that untamable spirit that grew stronger against tougher opponents and crazier against wilder ones, and a pride that could conquer all.

At that moment, Michael Jordan, sitting beside him, spoke again. "Little Sheep Su Xi’s strength, flexibility, and long arms allowed him to create this miracle. Once he gets to the NBA, he won’t have a single one of those advantages."

After Jordan finished, he looked at Larry Bird. He knew that Bird was the only one he could expect to agree with him; on the other side, Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas had already become one with the celebrating crowd.

For some reason, Jordan just didn’t like Su Xi. The more praise Su Xi received, the more it bothered him... even he didn’t know why.

He assumed Larry Bird would continue to agree with him; after all, Bird had been on his side all evening.

But he watched with his own eyes as Larry Bird’s expression turned icy.

Big Bird, a man known his entire career for his defiant attitude, looked the God of Basketball straight in the eye. Deciding not to hide his feelings any longer, he said flatly, "Fuck you. You don’t know shit about drafting."
