The Best Point Guard-Chapter 98 - 26: Why Is This Rookie So Fierce?
Before his one-on-one with James, Su Xi’s explosiveness talent was 94, and his speed talent was 86.
After the one-on-one with James, Su Xi’s explosiveness finally broke through its threshold to reach 95, officially entering the super tier. His speed talent, meanwhile, shot straight up to 89.
At first, James was taking it easy. Although Su Xi’s talents were fully activated, they didn’t see any substantial improvement.
James boasted to Su Xi as they played, "Hey, Jack, you know what? Coca-Cola wants to sign me. They’re willing to pay one million USD a year for me to be their spokesperson. To be honest, you know, I don’t really like drinking Coke."
Su Xi played along. "Yeah, even dogs won’t drink Coke. I use Pepsi when I make my cola chicken wings."
James burst out laughing. "From now on, you can use Coke. I’ll have the company send you all sorts of new products every month. They even have sugar-free, you know."
When James started showing off, he was really no different from a gossiping village woman in China.
Just then, Mike O’Connor walked in. He spoke to Su Xi from the sidelines, "Boss, Pepsi just called. They’re willing to raise their offer to 1.5 million USD a year to sign you as their regional spokesperson for Asia and North America."
What?
Su Xi felt as if James had just been zapped by electricity... and Su Xi had plenty of experience with that feeling.
Then, James got all awkward. He said to O’Connor, "Pepsi is willing to spend 1.5 million USD? Not 1.5 million RMB or Japanese yen or something?"
Mike O’Connor had a naturally arrogant face. He lifted his chin. "I don’t allow any business to negotiate with me in any currency other than USD. By the way, Boss, I’ve already rejected them. Lucy said we need to get at least 1.8 million USD; she mentioned you have an investment project in Los Angeles recently."
Su Xi nodded and said calmly, "From now on, don’t report these things to me while I’m playing."
Mike O’Connor hastily left.
Su Xi passed the ball to James. "Come on, Ah Zhan, let’s keep going."
And then, Su Xi saw LeBron go all out!
James started charging like a raging bull. Su Xi’s own strength and explosiveness were already quite strong, but he truly couldn’t hold his ground against James in motion. James’s physical advantage was just too great; the man was exceptionally gifted.
The only option was to disrupt him early, but Su Xi didn’t want to. He needed James to charge at full power to integrate his own talents.
They played for half an hour, during which James threw down seven dunks as if to vent his frustration.
As a result, Su Xi’s talents soared, progressing more than they had in the past several months. His explosiveness talent, in particular, leaped directly from top-tier to the super tier, undergoing a fundamental change.
If Su Xi went back to the NCAA now, he would be absolutely crushing scrubs!
Su Xi’s abilities had improved on a fundamental level. He was ecstatic.
"Congrats, Jack," James said to Su Xi after they finished playing. "You really do have a unique advantage in Asia. 1.5 million USD is actually a lot of money."
Su Xi waved his hand dismissively. "No, no, I’m not interested in money. Let’s not talk about it. How about another game?"
"I’m done. My chest feels tight." LeBron waved his hand, then invited Su Xi to take a shower and check out his ridiculously luxurious shower room.
After they both showered, they went to the massive living room.
Frank and the rest of the "Five Musketeers" came over. The moment he walked up, he said to Su Xi, "Jack, so many people have been talking trash about you these past few months. This notebook of mine is almost full. The NBA is incredibly hostile toward you; a lot of people are bad-mouthing you. So, I’ve specially organized it by the 28 teams."
Frank handed a thick notebook to Su Xi. The man was very meticulous.
And thorough, too. For instance, he had written "Death Note" on the cover and had even drawn a big red X.
A very distinctive touch.
Su Xi took the notebook and said, "Thanks, Frank."
"Don’t mention it, Jack. It was nothing." Frank continued, "I think you’d be better off staying under LeBron’s protection. Some of those guys are really tough."
Su Xi said nothing.
Just then, one of the Five Musketeers shouted, "Hey, LeBron, how come there’s no Pepsi in the fridge?"
"It’s all been thrown out," the butler said as he walked over. "Mr. James just said he doesn’t like Pepsi."
Huh?
The Five Musketeers were all a bit surprised. They were James’s childhood friends.
"LeBron’s about to become the spokesperson for Coca-Cola," Su Xi explained.
Everyone suddenly understood. They were all happy for James. As James’s career took off, they shared in his glory, knowing they could ride his coattails to success.
...
Before the first preseason game, Coach Paul Silas finally brought out his brand new playbook.
Before Su Xi even stepped into the locker room, he could hear Ricky Davis raging.
He was screaming at Assistant Coach Little Bob Tangwald. "...I only get five dedicated plays? You want me to just wait for the ball on the wing? Hey! Who do you think I am? I’m Ricky Davis!!"
"Last season, only three superstars averaged 20-5-5! One was Tracy McGrady, one was Kobe Bryant, and the other was me, Ricky Davis!"
"I’m not Pippen! I should be initiating the offense! My spot is on the strong side, and I need the ball for isos!"
He was seething with uncontrollable rage.
Carlos Boozer came over and tugged on Su Xi’s arm, signaling for him not to get involved.
But Ricky Davis turned and saw Su Xi. He continued shouting at Tangwald, "Even this Little Sheep Su Xi gets three plays? Why the hell? Give all of his to me!"
