The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 79: Ch : We found Miss Iris- part 1
Nicole’s defense was supposed to make things easier for me.
But I could immediately tell that it had done more harm than it had done good. The tension in the room thickened instead of easing.
The scouts’ faces held polite smiles, but their hidden intentions were...not so hidden at the moment.
"So...since you have stepped into the industry now, Miss Jenna, does that mean you will be taking auditions and accepting people we recommend to train? Surely you won’t say no to our old partnerships?"
A female scout tried to push for it, only to be quickly shot down by Nicole.
"That remains to be seen. The talent Miss Jenna brought to us was generational. Not only is his face S-class, but he also has talent to back it up. If you bring someone that exceptional, then I will consider it. For now, please hold the auditions seriously and don’t just pass anyone random."
Nicole’s words made the scouts grit their teeth and the room fell uncomfortably quiet. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
I could immediately tell that their talents did not match up to Nicole’s standards.
But as sorry as I felt for these scouts and their talents, we could not take anyone and everyone who came our way.
The scouts looked pressed and annoyed.
But they had no choice but to follow Nicole’s orders because they were being paid by her.
"We understand, Miss Park. We will head back now. The auditions are still going to take some time, and we have work to do."
The scouts finally left, but not before they smacked their shoulders against mine in an attempt to intimidate me.
Nicole let out a relieved sigh as she sank into her chair and rubbed her forehead.
"These annoyances...I know they took bribes to pass some undeserving candidates. Do they expect me to provide support for people who are not cut out to be in this industry and suffer losses?"
Nicole complained as she rubbed her forehead before she recalled that I was here as well and immediately turned toward me with a happy expression.
"Ah, Miss Jenna, please take a seat. Do not mind what those scouts said. They are just...a little tense because of the long hours they have to put in. Anyway, how are you doing? I was told that you collapsed and were in the hospital not too long ago?"
Nicole spoke a lot, but her nervousness shone through clearly. She was worried, even if she tried to hide it.
I felt a little bad for her because I had pushed her into this situation...most likely.
"I am fine. I was discharged, and they found nothing wrong with me. You look as busy as always."
I tried to make small talk, and Nicole sighed.
"I am so busy that I don’t even think I have time to eat properly these days. But I have to admit that it is rather...rewarding to see the new business grow. The campaign with Noah Park was a success, and his demand is rising as well. I can tell that we are heading in the right direction."
Nicole assured me, and I decided not to question her.
She had a good head on her shoulders, and Damian’s company was also keeping an eye on things.
"That is nice to know. I came here to take a look at things and offer any help. Do you need any...?"
"No, we are fine. Thank you for asking about it. Would you like to have some tea...? Coffee...?"
Nicole offered, and I shook my head.
"No, it is fine. I think I will take a look around before I head back home."
I told Nicole, and she made an unhappy expression before she pushed herself onto her feet.
"In that case-"
"No, it’s fine. I would like to take a look around by myself. Just...issue me a pass on your behalf."
I told the female, and Nicole looked annoyed and relieved at the same time.
She searched for something on her desk before she picked up whatever she was looking for and handed it to me.
"Here, this will make sure no one bothers you when you do not want to be bothered."
She handed me the small ID, and I immediately looked at it, only to want to give it back to Nicole.
"I don’t think...I should have your ID with me..."
"It will be fine. Since I am too busy to be with you, my ID will be your companion instead."
Nicole cracked a joke, but it did not seem funny.
Rather, it almost felt like she was serious about her words this time.
I let out a nervous laugh as I took the ID.
But I had not gone too far when I suddenly got a call from Damian.
He was not one to call me, so I felt curious and decided to pick up his call.
"We have managed to track down Iris. She’s currently being kept as a pet in a high-class establishment for rich people. I will head out to extract her myself-"
"I want to come with you. Before you ask-yes, I already know that it might be dangerous. But I still want to go with you and help you out. If you tell me ’no,’ then I will follow you without letting you know."
I threatened, and I immediately received silence from the other side.
Damian was likely thinking about what to do about me.
Finally, he sighed and decided he did not want to deal with me.
"Fine, I will take you with me. I have a feeling you would just do something stupid if I leave you behind."
I felt like I should feel offended, but I was not really offended.
I was just relieved.
As soon as Damian cut the call off, I quickly headed out because I needed to head back home.
I could not help but feel like I was missing...something.
But what was I missing...?
’Oh well, I am sure I will remember before I reach home...’
