The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 461 - 462: Not on the Same Frequency
Upon hearing the news that Sabrina Johnson might be together with Ryan Langston, Sienna Johnson had been on tenterhooks ever since.
At this moment, Sienna’s tense heart suddenly relaxed, realizing there was no need to worry. After all, she wasn’t alone in facing adversity.
"It seems that Sixth Master still holds a grudge."
"I will remember it for a lifetime! So, you have to compensate me for a lifetime."
"Back then, I was in the wrong, but you were no saint either, so let’s not point fingers."
The two of them knew not to dwell on past grievances, as it would only lead to quarrels. Both felt the other had wronged them.
Now, Adrian Desmond had become wiser and no longer argued with women about past wrongs. The past wasn’t important; the present and the future were. Now and in the future, Sienna belonged to him!
"Aiden Howard casually sent four skeletons to Master Leland, who didn’t find anything suspicious. Aiden then relayed the message that he would no longer interfere in Sabrina’s affairs..." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
If Sienna hadn’t heard what Leanne Andrews said this morning, she might have been overjoyed. Now, her joy was greatly diminished.
With the Master Leland situation resolved, there was still Ryan Langston to worry about.
Sienna admitted her own inferiority compared to Sabrina’s skill in manipulating older men.
Sienna told Adrian the news she heard from Leanne Andrews about Sabrina. Their concerns were entirely different.
"I remember her due date is around the same as yours. Aren’t we not supposed to have intercourse during the first three months?"
"Why can she have intercourse with that man, but I can’t with you?" Adrian asked in surprise.
Sienna: ...
"Sienna, did the doctor make a mistake? Maybe we should try tonight too..."
Sienna didn’t even bother to reply to this lust-driven man and hung up the phone.
After the morning rush hour, traffic thinned considerably, and Mr. Leonard’s car quickly arrived at the Johnson Family mansion.
The car drove directly in. Kiki was trimming flowers in the garden and was startled to see Sienna suddenly return.
"Why are you back? Did something happen?" she asked nervously.
Kiki was wearing gloves and holding pruning shears. Sienna said, "You’re pregnant. You should rest properly. Let the gardener do this kind of work from now on."
"I like pruning the flowers. Looking at these beautiful flowers cheers me up." Kiki smiled gently.
Kiki was a homemaker, much like the traditional legitimate wife in an old Orienta estate, content to spend her life within the confines of a courtyard, managing the household and raising children.
"You still haven’t told me why you’re back."
"Just a few things to take care of. Is Madam Johnson around?"
"She is." At the mention of Madam Johnson, Kiki’s brow furrowed slightly. She looked at Sienna, hesitated for a moment, then said, "I feel that something is wrong with Madam Johnson. She always stays cooped up in her room and seems absentminded. She doesn’t even hear me when I greet her..."
"I understand."
Sienna wasn’t the only one who had noticed Madam Johnson’s unusual behavior.
Kiki advised, "Sienna, she is your mother, after all. Don’t be so cold to her. I think she’s quite pitiful."
"Our kind Kiki, your sympathy is overflowing again. Fortunately, your Lucas Robertson is cold and pragmatic; otherwise, two soft-hearted people like you wouldn’t manage in this world," Sienna teased.
"You’re just ungrateful. You don’t know how much I envy you. Even though Madam Johnson wasn’t always good to you, at least you know who your biological mother is."
"Unlike me. I’ve grown up this much and still don’t know who I am, who my parents are, or why they abandoned me..."
The sorrow of being an orphan is not knowing who you are, where you come from, or where you are going. Orphans spend their lives searching for their roots, and many never find them, even by the time they die.
"Kiki, you’re a mother now. Even though you didn’t have a mother yourself, you can be a good one."
Kiki smiled happily and nodded vigorously. "Yes, I’ll definitely be a good mother!"
Sienna said, "I know you’ll do great."
Kiki, beaming, replied, "I will!"
"By the way, when Lucas Robertson comes back, tell him to prepare the betrothal gifts and make a formal marriage proposal to our Johnson Family. Don’t let him think he can just knock you up and make you his without a proper proposal," Sienna said, speaking as if she were a representative of Kiki’s maiden family.
"Okay, I’ll listen to whatever you say," Kiki said.
After chatting with Kiki for a few more moments, Sienna went to find Pauline Briggs.
The Johnson Family mansion was a Ming and Qing dynasty architectural complex, rigorously designed with a clear distinction between primary and secondary structures, exuding an air of ancient, simple elegance.
The overall layout of the Johnson residence adopted the northern siheyuan (courtyard house) style, comprising a series of courtyards: a patio, front yard, middle yard, backyard, a study courtyard, and a rear garden. The doors and windows were adorned with delicate wood carvings. Lifelike orchids, carved fluidly in low relief, decorated these features. "Orchids are the fragrance of royalty, not to be mixed with ordinary grass." This sentiment, and the sweet fragrance that filled the halls, reflected the noble and upright character of the Johnson Family.
Pauline Briggs was living in the backyard.
Sienna walked through the covered corridor and arrived at Serene Residence, the courtyard her father once inhabited.
At the entrance, Sienna gazed at the vigorous calligraphy on the door plaque, remaining silent for a moment. The three characters for "Serene Residence" had been personally brushed by her father.
Dexter Johnson was an excellent calligrapher. After Sienna came to the Johnson Family, she also began to learn calligraphy from him, though she specialized in the "Xue Tao Style."
Sienna slowly walked in. The courtyard was exceptionally quiet, almost as if uninhabited. The Johnson Family was small, and Sienna, being frugal, disliked employing many servants, which made the Johnson residence feel rather desolate.
She went forward and knocked on the door.
"Come in!" Pauline said from behind the door.
Sienna pushed the door open and entered. It led to a living room, but Pauline was nowhere to be seen.
"I’m here. Where are you?"
Pauline replied, "In the study!"
Sienna bypassed the main hall and walked towards her father’s small study. Sienna usually used the large study; she hadn’t visited this small one since Dexter Johnson passed away.
The small study was much simpler: a desk, a few chairs, and books piled to the ceiling—all sorts of books. Dexter Johnson was a bibliophile, fond of buying and collecting books. Consequently, he had earned the elegant moniker "Confucian Merchant" in Sileria City’s business circles.
"What are you doing?" Sienna walked in.
Pauline didn’t look up from her calligraphy. "Writing the Diamond Sutra," she replied.
Sienna walked over, looked down at what Pauline was writing, and murmured the words, "The Buddha told Subhuti: All Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas should thus subdue their minds. All different kinds of living beings—whether born from eggs, from the womb, from moisture, or by transformation; whether with form or without form; whether with thought, without thought, or neither with thought nor without thought..."
