The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 649 - 690: Innocent like a Child
"My grandma isn’t a cook. How could she cook every day? My grandma isn’t cooking today. Go home and get something to eat."
Curly hugged her arms, blowing gently on the bite. The wound is a bit deep. I wonder if it will scar. If it scars, I won’t be pretty anymore. If I’m not pretty, I won’t find a handsome and wealthy husband like Dad.
Curly suddenly felt like crying.
"I told you to bite, and you actually bit me? I don’t like you anymore! I’m not playing with you anymore! Don’t come looking for me ever again!" Curly said fiercely, like a small, bristling beast.
"I’m hungry!" Shade Jervois said pitifully.
"All you ever do is say you’re hungry, hungry, hungry! Doesn’t your family feed you?"
"I haven’t been home for many days," Shade Jervois replied.
"Then wouldn’t your parents be worried sick? Did you run away from home?" Curly started to show concern for Shade Jervois again.
"My parents died a long time ago."
The only warmth Shade Jervois had ever felt was from his mother. His father favored his older brother and disliked him. Only his mother had liked him; she would cook delicious meals for him, ask if he was warm enough, and if he accidentally hurt himself, she would gently blow on the wound, just like Curly did.
If she blew on it, would it stop hurting?
Shade Jervois looked at Curly’s arm and pulled it towards him. Curly, thinking he was going to bite her again, was on the verge of tears. "Don’t bite me again! I’ll get you food, okay?"
Curly truly regretted meeting this person. She was usually the one bullying others; why did she feel like she was being bullied now?
"A little blow, and it won’t hurt." It had been so long that Shade Jervois wasn’t sure if it still hurt when his mother used to blow on his wounds.
Shade Jervois then blew gently on her arm, his expression very serious. Curly wasn’t a petty person and knew this "Brother" was a bit simple-minded, so she decided not to hold it against him.
"Brother, are you an orphan?"
"I have an older brother." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Anyone without parents is an orphan." Curly’s compassion overflowed. "No wonder you’re always hungry. So, you don’t have a mom and dad anymore. Brother, wait here. I’ll go get you something to eat."
"Okay."
Curly pulled down the sleeves of her pajamas and went out.
Shade Jervois lay on Curly’s bed, looking at all the pink colors around the room. He wondered why she loved pink so much and had so many stuffed animals. He picked up a small teddy bear; he remembered Curly always hugged it when she slept, every time he had been there before.
"Bear?"
"..."
"Stupid bear!"
The main building on the island was seven stories high, surrounded by a sturdy, tall wall. Within the wall, many stone houses had been built. Over the years, Adrian Desmond had slowly transformed the island into a fortress.
The entire island was equipped with radar facilities extending twenty to thirty nautical miles out. Adrian Desmond had even purchased a commercial satellite for surveillance.
This was Adrian Desmond’s stronghold; he didn’t want to leave any security vulnerabilities.
Curly’s family lived in the main building. The sixth and seventh floors were exclusive residential areas for the family. Apart from servants, no unauthorized personnel were allowed inside.
The sixth and seventh floors formed a complete and independent living space, equipped not only with bathrooms and a kitchen but also a private elevator that provided direct access out of the main building through a separate door.
Curly, barefoot, padded across the soft carpet towards the large kitchen on the sixth floor. Around this time, the servants were preparing dinner.
Her father had specially hired a chef from Orienta. His cooking was delicious.
Curly tiptoed into the kitchen and grabbed the bread basket, which was filled with freshly baked bread. When the portly old chef wasn’t looking, she snatched two long loaves and slipped out again.
On her way back, she took a bite. "Hmm, tastes good."
By the time she returned to her room, she had already eaten a good portion of the bread. The moment Curly neared the door, Shade Jervois knew she was back.
Shade Jervois’s senses of hearing and smell were exceptionally acute. He was now very familiar with Curly’s scent and the sound of her footsteps.
"You’re so slow!"
"I’m here, I’m here!" Curly handed the two long loaves of bread to Shade Jervois. Seeing the bite marks Curly had left, he didn’t seem to mind and began to eat greedily.
Curly’s sleepiness had completely vanished. Watching him devour the food, her spirits lifted as well.
"Is it good?"
"Delicious."
"If it’s good, then come to my house to eat. Don’t go stealing food anymore. If you don’t have any money, I can give you some of my allowance. Anyway, I don’t really get a chance to spend it."
"Why are you being so good to me?"
Shade Jervois held the bread and looked at Curly. He remembered his older brother’s words: everyone in this world is bad. If someone is too nice to you, you have to be careful, because they might be trying to deceive you and then kill you.
In the past, Shade Jervois had completely believed his older brother’s words. But now...
Shade Jervois assessed the strength of the girl before him. She was far too weak; he could crush her with one hand. Absolutely no threat. It seemed his older brother was sometimes wrong.
"Bill’s here," Shade Jervois said suddenly.
He put down the bread, his eyes narrowing slightly as he stared towards the door, his posture wary.
"Who’s Bill?"
"Your dad!"
"My dad’s name isn’t Bill."
A knock came at the door. "Curly, Dad’s coming in, okay?"
"It really is my dad!" Curly shouted towards the door, "Dad!"
The door opened, and Adrian Desmond and Sienna Johnson walked in. "Curly, Mom and Dad are back!" Adrian Desmond held a large gift box tied with a pink ribbon. "Look, we even bought you a present!"
Curly ran over happily, but halfway there, she suddenly remembered something and stopped. The radiant smile vanished from her face.
"Hmph! So now you remember to come back! Hmph! Even if you’re back, I’m still not talking to you," Curly said haughtily.
Sienna Johnson walked over to her daughter’s side and said with a smile, "Mom and Dad really were away for work this time. If I’m lying, I’m a puppy!"
"Hmph!"
As soon as Adrian Desmond entered, he detected a stranger’s presence. He looked over at the man sitting cross-legged on his daughter’s bed, nonchalantly munching on bread, and chuckled.
"Shade!"
Hearing his name, Shade Jervois glanced up at him, then lowered his head and continued to munch on his bread. When Shade Jervois was hungry, nothing else mattered.
Sienna Johnson was also startled when she saw Shade Jervois. "Isn’t he..."
Adrian Desmond explained, "No, it’s his twin brother."
"Dad, his name is Shade. He’s my new friend," Curly announced, noticing everyone staring at Shade Jervois.
"Dad, Shade is so pitiful. He doesn’t have a mom or dad anymore. Why don’t you adopt him?" Curly tugged at her father’s sleeve, pleading.
"He’s already an adult; he doesn’t need a guardian."
Sienna Johnson frowned, her heart turning cold as she looked at the face identical to Night Owl’s. His younger brother is in her daughter’s room... so where is the older one?
What does this younger brother intend to do to her daughter?
