The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 650 - 691: Pampering the Daughter, Buying, Buying, Buying
When the gift box was opened, Curly’s anger vanished. The gift Adrian Desmond gave his daughter was a Lotus Crown embedded with pink diamonds and a red dress.
"Do you like it?" Adrian asked.
When Adrian put the Lotus Crown on his daughter, Curly could only use "Wow..." to describe her feelings at that moment.
"Daddy, I want to put on this beautiful dress. Then, I’ll be a princess—Princess Curly!" With the crown on her head, Curly pulled her father towards her changing room.
"Our Curly was always a princess!"
"I’m Daddy and Mommy’s princess!"
Adrian held the red dress in one hand and lifted his daughter with the other, allowing her to sit on his arm. Curly then hugged her father’s neck.
Sienna Johnson lacked the father and daughter’s composure. She watched the man before her warily. The older brother was so terrifying; this younger brother must be too...
"Do you also want some bread?" Shade Jervois suddenly asked.
"No, thank you."
"Then why are you staring at me?" Shade Jervois stared back at Sienna, his eyes accusing, as if she were about to snatch his food.
"Because you look a lot like your brother."
Shade Jervois devoured the bread in his hand in a few bites. Seeing his hands empty, he started eating Curly’s candy.
That candy box, Sienna knew, was Curly’s treasure.
The little girl hid her candy box under the bed, thinking no one knew; in fact, everyone did.
Sienna had instructed Paula, who specifically looked after Curly, to count the candies in it every day. If Curly ate candy after brushing her teeth at night and before bed, Paula was to confiscate the box.
Fortunately, Curly never secretly ate them in the middle of the night. Instead, like a little miser, she would count her candies every night before going to bed.
"I’m still hungry!" Shade Jervois said to Sienna.
"Breakfast is ready in the kitchen; you can go eat there."
Shade Jervois got up. As he climbed off Curly’s low bed, he bumped his head. He seemed oblivious to the pain, paying it no mind.
As Shade Jervois approached, Sienna clenched the fists at her sides. This man is so much like the unpredictable Night Owl. Who knows if it’s Night Owl in disguise?
As Shade Jervois passed Sienna, he walked out without even glancing at her.
Hearing the door close, Sienna let out a long sigh of relief.
Why do I feel like I’ve just survived a catastrophe? Am I really that frightened by Night Owl that I have lingering trauma?
"Mommy, am I beautiful?"
Dressed in her new finery, Curly emerged, hand-in-hand with her father. Her fair skin was a perfect complement to the red dress, and with the diamond crown atop her curly hair, she looked every bit a little princess.
"Very beautiful. Curly, you look just like a little princess."
"I am a little princess! Daddy’s little princess and Mommy’s little princess!" Curly was in a fantastic mood, completely forgetting her plan to give her parents the cold shoulder.
"Daddy, who is more beautiful, me or Mommy?"
"Both are beautiful!"
"Which one is *more* beautiful?"
This daughter of mine... I give her a diamond crown and a red dress, and this little rascal turns around and sets a trap for me! How can I answer this without offending someone?
The two of them, one big and one small, stared at him, awaiting his answer.
"Can I choose not to answer?"
"No!" the two of them said in unison.
"Both are beautiful!"
"That’s not good enough! You have to say who’s *more* beautiful!" Curly pressed her father for a definitive answer, clearly determined to put him on the spot.
Adrian, however, had wised up. He picked up his daughter but looked at Sienna and said with deep affection, "You are the most beautiful."
Sienna Johnson, of course, knew Adrian was sidestepping the question. Curly, however, was still young and thought her father had just declared *her* the most beautiful. She hugged her father’s neck, turned her head, made a cheeky face at her mother, and beamed triumphantly.
Sienna couldn’t be bothered to bicker with her youngest rival. "Curly," she asked, "tell Mommy, how did you meet that man from earlier? The one... Shade, you called him Shade."
"Big Brother Shade? One day he was hungry and came looking for me to get some candy. That’s how we met."
Cradling her father’s neck, Curly said, her little brow furrowed, "Daddy, Big Brother Shade is so pitiful. He never gets enough to eat. His parents are dead. Is his family too poor to afford food?"
The Jervois family was far from poor; it was just that Shade Jervois expended energy so quickly that he was always hungry.
After so many years, everyone had changed. The only one who hadn’t was Shade Jervois.
Shade Jervois... he was still the same Shade Jervois...
"Daddy, when Big Brother Shade leaves, can you give him lots of yummy food to take with him, okay?"
"Okay."
Sienna looked at Adrian, words unspoken on her lips. Adrian clearly didn’t want to discuss Shade Jervois with her and left, carrying their daughter.
"Daddy, I want a horsey ride!"
"But you’re wearing a skirt today. It wouldn’t be very elegant to play horsey in that."
"Oh, okay then. I won’t."
"Daddy, have you missed me?"
"I have."
"How much?"
"Hmm... I’ve missed you as much as all the water in the Ocean."
Curly giggled. Sienna watched her daughter, so easily and joyfully placated, and shook her head.
Every time Curly throws a tantrum, Adrian placates her with extravagant gifts. That Lotus Crown on her head today cost tens of millions. The pressure on the man who eventually marries Curly will be immense! What if she marries someone less wealthy? What then?
For breakfast, the family gathered to eat. As they had been separated for a few days, they had much to talk about.
The Johnson Family had traditionally adhered to the principle of "no talking at meals, no conversation before bed," but now, even those rules were often set aside.
"The factory has been acquired," Old Lady Johnson began. "Now we need to find people to harvest the bird’s nests. I took a boat to Swallow Island yesterday to take a look. It’s all reefs and steep cliffs there, making the nests very difficult to harvest. When you send people to harvest the bird’s nests, you must ensure they are extremely careful." She admonished Sienna, worried she might overlook some crucial details.
"Yes, Grandma, I’ve considered this issue," Sienna replied. "Adrian said he would find the right people and take responsibility for harvesting the bird’s nests."
Adrian chimed in, "I have quite a few highly skilled individuals in my employ. Those cliffs and precipices might be dangerous for ordinary people, but to my men, they’re hardly different from level ground."
Old Lady Johnson remained unconvinced. "It’s often the skilled swimmers who drown. It’s always better to be cautious."
"We understand, Grandma. We’ll be sure to take precautions," Adrian assured her.
Pauline Briggs interjected, "Mom, Sienna has a steady disposition. She’d be mindful of such things even if you didn’t mention them."
Old Lady Johnson looked at Sienna Johnson with satisfaction. If she initially had doubts about her granddaughter’s abilities, several years of trials and experience had clearly demonstrated them. Young as she was, Sienna could already handle significant responsibilities independently, her capabilities in no way inferior to Dexter Johnson’s.
