Chapter 10: Being Watched

Isabella let his comment pass her ears and walked to find a spot on the couch.

She found a jar full of chocolate on the coffee table and took a few to pop one in her mouth. While chewing, she removed the necklace around her neck and carelessly threw it in the air.

Julienne’s eyes widened in shock, almost comically jumping in fright when he saw what she had just done. He hadn’t taken a clear look at the object she had just thrown, but knowing how she usually acts, Julienne didn’t take on the chances that whatever she threw was a priceless thing! 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Fortunately, he had quick hands and feet. He saved the object before it could hit the floor. When he straightened his body and looked at what he had just grabbed, sure enough, he felt relieved he had done that.

"As reckless as ever!" Julienne cradled the necklace like a baby and took a seat across from her. "Do you even know how much this costs to make?"

Isabella shook her head, popping another chocolate in her mouth. Julienne was one of her good friends, who was already a few to begin with. He was born in France, but he chose to stay in the country to enjoy a solitary life without his family’s influence. To her, he was someone who could be trusted, and he radiated an outgoing and playful energy that drew her to him.

As the son of the head designer and major shareholder of Aureve, Julienne Monet had grown to develop a delicate and elegant taste toward jewelry. At a young age of nine, he easily became part of the design team. However, who knew what happened in his later years, he suddenly stopped creating designs and never appeared in front of the media again.

But most people didn’t know that Julienne did not completely disappear. Instead of following the steps of his mother, he chose to live without the shackles of endless work and the spotlight. Occasionally, he would send his designs and masterpieces to the headquarters for personal profit.

As for how he knew how much the necklace cost... How could Julienne not know? He was the one who created it!

It took him a whole month to set every diamond and pearl with both his hands. He stayed up all night to design it. He even personally bid at the auction to get that rare green gemstone!

"Ten million! I got ten million for this necklace!" Julienne wanted to scold her, but paused when he realized something. "How did this necklace end up in your hands? Don’t tell me you’re the one who spent that money?"

Julienne thought that if he knew it was Isabella who bought it, he wouldn’t sell it to her. Rather, he would’ve given it to her for free!

He would give her anything he created. No questions asked!

If Isabella wanted him to make a new piece with the rarest diamond in the world, he would look for a way to do it. That’s how precious she was to him.

"It wasn’t me," Isabella coldly replied. Now, she knew how much Bard and Carla had spent on their daughter’s birthday.

"Really?" Julienne asked tentatively.

"Yes, it was bought by my uncle’s wife."

What Isabella replied only received Julienne’s indignation. He had long known about Isabella’s background and past. He even knew how this family had treated her and planned to trick her.

"I’ll call the headquarters. I need to tell them to put a stop to taking any purchase from your aunt." Julienne stood up to get his phone. "Aureve will put her on the block lists."

With his mother as the major shareholder of Aureve, any request Julienne made to the headquarters would definitely be arranged.

"Don’t," Isabella suddenly said.

Julienne frowned. "Why not?"

"I need more time." Isabella didn’t explain further.

Hearing this, Julienne also didn’t ask anymore. The two of them talked about the recent news that happened over the course of the week. Julienne was extremely updated with his extensive connections that spread even to the entertainment circles. So, he mostly talked the entire time. Isabella only listened quietly.

Soon, almost an hour had passed. It was time for Isabella to leave.

Wearing a reluctant look on his face, Julienne hugged Isabella once again outside the door. This time, he held her a bit longer and pressed his cheek against the top of her head.

"You need to be safe," he told her. "Whatever your plans are, I need you to keep your safety a priority, Bel. If I find out you’re in danger, I’ll drag you out of this country myself and find a place where you can stay far from everything."

Isabella smiled and poked his rib, producing a sharp cry from him. She knew she was one of the reasons why Julienne stayed there. He could’ve flown to other countries to live more freely, but he didn’t want to leave her alone.

"I’m no longer a child, Julienne." She laughed, feeling grateful for his care. "I can take care of myself now."

"You’re a kid to me."

Julienne pulled away and patted her head. He added, "You’re still the most precious little sister I wish I had."

"And you will always be my big brother."

The two of them smiled at each other. Their feelings for each other had gone beyond friendship. Instead, the two treated each other like siblings, even without being related by blood.

Years had gone by since they first met. Isabella was only nine years old when she was introduced to Julienne by her parents. The ten-year age gap, but the instant they stood side by side, the two had instantly become close friends. After her parents’ death, Julienne’s mother stepped up to adopt Isabella as her daughter, which brought immense joy to Julienne. However, the Harrington family stopped it before it could happen.

Because of their interference, Isabella and Julienne couldn’t become real siblings. But time and distance didn’t take away the closeness between them.

Isabella got in the pod and soon drove away from his house.

But what no one noticed was that before Isabella had left the compound, someone had been watching her.
