Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Overbearing Lady CEO

Summer Monroe asked in confusion, "Dad, didn’t you say you’d join me for the shoot? Aren’t you coming in?"

Henry Stanton cleared his throat and said, "Your team is very professional, so I won’t interfere. I’m going over to your aunt’s place to see if she needs help with anything she doesn’t understand, afraid she can’t handle it alone. Call me when you’re done shooting, and I’ll treat your team to a meal."

Summer immediately understood that Henry Stanton, because of her previous words, was being cautious towards Stella Monroe.

This was a good thing; she could take this opportunity to see if her mother’s secret office compartment had been discovered.

She smiled and said, "Okay, then you go ahead, and I’ll find you when I’m done."

"Alright, you focus on the shoot, I’m off now." With that, Henry Stanton hurriedly turned and left.

It was apparent he didn’t trust anyone easily, calling her his wife yet suspecting her based on just one remark.

Such an unstable person is easy to deal with, yet difficult as well; you can’t reveal any hints in front of them, or else they’ll be suspicious.

Summer’s smile persisted until she couldn’t see Henry Stanton’s figure anymore, then she retreated into the elevator, letting the doors slowly close.

The assistant didn’t notice the subtle expression on Summer’s face, teasing her by asking, "Miss Sadie, do you remember the message I sent you? There’s a new person in charge today, do you want to know who it is?"

Summer, preoccupied with her thoughts, took a few seconds before asking, "Who?"

To her, it didn’t matter who it was, as long as they didn’t disrupt her shooting.

The assistant chuckled, about to speak, when the elevator reached the top floor and the doors opened automatically, revealing a tall, upright figure outside.

The man at the elevator entrance had piercing, profound black eyes, handsome features, a high nose bridge, and striking facial features.

Who else could it be but Damian Knight?

Summer looked up and saw Damian Knight standing at the elevator entrance. She was momentarily stunned, then connected the dots with the assistant’s words, turning to the assistant in surprise.

The assistant giggled and said, "Miss Sadie, Young Master Knight is the main person in charge for the shoot!"

Summer was taken aback.

She never expected the main person in charge to be Damian Knight, the president of the Knight Group—did he actually have that much free time?

Damian Knight was about to head downstairs to greet Summer but took a step back when he saw her arriving and glanced at the assistant.

The assistant, understanding the situation, quickly made herself scarce.

Summer watched the assistant’s rapid exit, confused, and asked, "Why are you the one in charge? Isn’t there work to do at the company?"

Damian Knight replied calmly, "It’s just overseeing a shoot, it doesn’t take much time. Plus, I can handle company matters here too. But you better not let me down as the brand ambassador since I value this project greatly."

Summer almost thought Damian Knight took up this role for her, but with his words, she sneered slightly.

Okay, she shouldn’t overthink it. It’s fortunate she already realized Damian Knight wasn’t interested in her; otherwise, she might’ve mistakenly thought he had feelings for her.

After a slight sneer, Summer said indifferently, "Don’t worry, I won’t hold you back. Let’s go; I can start filming now."

She had taken the morning off, so she needed to complete the morning’s shooting in the afternoon.

However, with that troublemaker woman absent, catching up on the morning’s shooting shouldn’t be too stressful.

They walked one after the other towards the CEO’s office.

As they passed by one office, Summer heard the sounds of children playing and laughing inside.

She couldn’t help but stop and asked a passing staff member, "Why are there kids inside?"

The staff member smiled and replied, "It’s a company routine here; employees with children can bring them to this children’s lounge where there are people to look after them, allowing the parents to focus entirely on work."

Summer nodded and, once the staff member left, said unexpectedly to Damian Knight, "I didn’t know my father... was actually quite humane towards employees."

"Humane?" Damian Knight chuckled, as if he heard a funny joke.

Summer asked in confusion, "What? Why are you laughing? Am I wrong? Some female employees struggle to find jobs after having kids. He’s willing to accept them and even set up a children’s room; isn’t that humane?"

Damian Knight gently shook his head and said, "You don’t know the specifics, that’s why you think so. Henry Stanton does accept them, but he pays them part-time wages while they do more work than the full-time employees. This isn’t humane; it’s exploitation in disguise. Besides, do you really think the children’s room environment is good?"

With that, Summer couldn’t help but push open the door to the children’s room.

Once the door was opened, a stench of urine and feces wafted out.

The children inside were playing, but more were crying, while the supposed "caretaker" sat nearby, absorbed in their phone.

Summer fell silent immediately.

Indeed, this isn’t humane; it’s exploitation in disguise.

Summer was surprised but found it unsurprising, and this was precisely something Henry Stanton would do.

To recruit employees this way, it showed how selfish and cold-hearted he was.

Summer suddenly felt determined to reclaim the Stanton Group back into the Monroe Group.

No matter if her mom’s death was related to Henry Stanton or not, it was undeniable that he seized the Monroe Group, which her mom single-handedly built.

She planned to take over the Stanton Group!

"Let’s go." With an indifferent expression, Summer headed towards the CEO’s office.

Damian Knight didn’t know why Summer’s face suddenly turned stern, but he knew it surely related to Henry Stanton.

He couldn’t help but say, "If you ask me, I might help you deal with Henry Stanton when I’m in a good mood."

"No need, I’ll handle it myself."

Summer knew Damian Knight meant well, but she didn’t say much and pushed open the door to the CEO’s office.

The CEO’s office was at the end of the hallway, spacious, bright, filled with greenery, a stark contrast to the messy children’s room.

Seeing Summer enter, the assistant ran up excitedly and said, "Miss Clarissa, the filming equipment is all set up. Let’s go change your outfit; everything’s ready for you."

Summer nodded and followed the assistant to change clothes and do her makeup.

The filming director watched Summer’s back with concern and said to Damian Knight, "Young Master Knight, Miss Sadie is indeed beautiful, but playing the role of a female CEO... not sure if she’ll lack that kind of presence?"

"Presence?"

The director nodded and said, "That sort of... fierce feeling you see online. Her looks are more sweet and gentle, so she might not capture that aura. If she can’t pull it off, this ad might bring negative impact, so it might be better to get someone with that CEO vibe for this part."
