Chapter 729: Popular Face

Meanwhile, somewhere...

"What’s that?" Scarlet asked as soon as she entered the small room they were renting for the night. She had just returned from the pub after gathering information and found nothing.

Haji and Chuck, meanwhile, were seated on the bed, staring at a piece of paper. When they heard her voice, they both glanced up. Then Haji handed the paper to her.

Scarlet arched a brow as she took it, darting her eyes between the two idiots.

"Don’t tell me you both got scammed again," she muttered. "I swear, both of you will dehydrate and die."

"Just look at it first—goddammit!" Haji hissed in irritation, while Chuck quietly cheered from behind him, "Are you still on your period?!"

Scarlet stared at Chuck dead in the eye, noticing how he was slowly gaining confidence in criticizing her. Haji was clearly to blame. He’d encouraged Chuck not to be scared of her since this was a three-man mission, and she couldn’t afford to have either of them die.

"Chuck—and you too," Scarlet shifted her gaze to Haji. "Just because I can’t kill you now doesn’t mean I won’t kill you after this."

Chuck held his breath while Haji slid his eyes away.

Scarlet scoffed and finally checked the paper in her hand. Slowly, her brow arched as she read the ugly, handwritten-looking advertisement.

"This is..." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"We’re going there," Haji suddenly jumped to his feet and stood beside her, flicking the paper. "This is where Vito is."

Scarlet reread the flyer, then looked at him. "How did you get this?"

"It wasn’t him," Chuck smirked smugly, rubbing his nose. "It was actually me who—"

"We’ll still need to confirm whether this is real or not," Scarlet cut in, completely ignoring Chuck. "This is... tomorrow. How are we securing the tickets? Did you already?"

Haji’s face twisted. "It was expensive."

She deadpanned. "What?"

"It’s damn expensive!" he hissed, reminded of how he’d been scammed at gambling. He knew it was a scam, but he just let his emotions get the better of him. "But at least I didn’t get scammed as badly as he did."

Chuck paled. "Hey! Why are you bringing that up now?!"

Scarlet pinched the bridge of her nose, reminding herself this wasn’t the time to scold them or rehash past issues—even though those "past issues" had happened just yesterday.

"Do you know how we’re getting into this place?" she asked, snapping her attention back to them. "It says limited seats only."

"Don’t worry about that!" Haji declared with a smirk. "I already got us a spot."

"Huh?" Both Scarlet and Chuck stared at him in disbelief. Then Scarlet noticed Chuck’s reaction. "Why are you surprised too?"

"I didn’t know that!" Chuck jumped up and rushed toward Haji. "Hey, ugly—what do you mean you already secured a spot?! I didn’t know that!"

Haji smirked. "Goodness. Both of you are amateurs."

As expected, the duo frowned deeply while Haji laughed.

"It was expensive," he continued. "And once we’re inside, betting is mandatory. That’s how underground brawls work. But there’s a way to get in without paying a cent."

Curiosity lit up in Scarlet’s and Chuck’s eyes as they tilted their heads.

"That is..." Haji grinned. "...if we fight."

For a moment, the only response was silence like birds croaking in the distance.

Scarlet and Chuck blinked slowly, as if their brains needed time to process what they’d just heard. Then, in unison:

"You signed up?"

"What? Me? No!" Haji waved his hands quickly. "Not me. You don’t know this, but this face right here is very popular. If I joined, Vito would know I’m here, and the bastard might run."

The duo paused... then asked again, "Then if not you, who’s fighting?"

"...."

Haji opened his mouth, shut it again, then took a step back and whistled innocently.

"Who?" Scarlet narrowed her eyes. "Don’t tell me..."

Haji raised his brows and carefully slid his gaze toward the other guy.

Slowly, Scarlet followed his line of sight.

Chuck.

Chuck blinked as both of them stared at him. He pointed at himself, his mouth falling open.

"No..." he laughed nervously. "You’re kidding."

Haji blinked.

The next second, Chuck grabbed Haji by his loose clothes.

"What the hell are you thinking—hey! Do you want to die or what?! Do you seriously think I’m a pushover?! I can shoot you in the head from a hundred miles away!"

Chuck boiled as he shook Haji, the idiot who had signed him up for an underground brawl without his consent.

To make things worse, Chuck was the one who had discovered the flyer during their solo pub visits. They’d split up to avoid suspicion while searching for leads on Vito, since they had no idea where Yuri was.

Not that they weren’t trying.

It was just that no matter how discreetly they asked, no one had seen Yuri. This was an entire country, and they had no idea where to start. For a three-man mission, finding her would take pure luck.

So they aimed for the easier target.

Vito.

Scarlet shook her head as she watched Chuck berate Haji, while the latter endured it with bored indifference.

"Stop complaining," she cut in before they actually killed each other. "At least this gets us inside. While you fight, Haji and I will look for Vito."

"Are you insane?!" Chuck gasped. "I’ll get trashed in the first round!"

"Then get trashed in the first round," she replied flatly. "Let him punch you once and play dead."

"Nah. That’s not how it works." Haji shook his head while Chuck still gripped his collar. "He needs to last long enough to entertain the crowd. Otherwise, they’ll kill him."

Chuck ground his teeth, seething. "You—I’m really going to strangle you tonight!"

"Ack—wait! Help!"

Scarlet sighed, already used to their dysfunctional dynamic. If anything, every minute with them was just another argument waiting to explode.

She looked back at the flyer in her hand and exhaled slowly. A glint flashed in her eyes as she focused on the mission.

Then Haji spoke again.

"Oh, by the way—" he raised a finger, prying Chuck’s hands away from his neck as he turned to Scarlet. "You’ll be his coach. Fighters need a coach-slash-manager. I’ll go look for Vito, yeah?"

Scarlet blinked. "Why me?"

"Because this face of mine is popular?"

"..."

She inhaled deeply, glanced at Chuck, and said, "Do whatever you want with him."

Then she walked away, already accepting that this was now a two-man mission.
