The further they drove, the less Harlow wanted the surprise. The city had long since disappeared behind them, replaced by an eerie emptiness. No buildings, no people, just an endless stretch of land and a dense forest pressing in from both sides. A chill crept down her spine. If Alanis planned to kill her here, no one would ever find her.
She should have known better than to trust him.
The silver gate groaned open as the car rolled forward, the sound scraping against her nerves. Harlow’s hand had already turned clammy as she took in deep breaths readying her mind for whatever Alanis had planned.
The chauffeur maneuvered smoothly past the entrance, guiding them deeper into the unknown. Harlow’s fingers curled into her lap as she took in the vast estate, the towering trees enclosing them like silent watchers.
She hadn’t brought any of her safety equipment. Why would she? She was with Alanis. But now, as the car continued forward, a terrifying realization settled over her, if he meant to harm her, she had no way to escape.
Minutes passed, each one stretching longer than the last until the trees gave way to something unexpected. A breathtaking expanse of roses spread out before her along with other flowers. The sea of colors was so rich and vibrant that it almost didn’t seem real. Every shade imaginable, blooming in endless abundance.
So this is where Alanis had gotten those roses from... she thought.
Her awe momentarily overpowered her fear. She had forgotten about the thought of Alanis killing her as she stared at the breathtaking Garden before her.
She could already picture herself walking in the space and getting lost in their sweet scent. The sight was mesmerizing.
And then, her gaze lifted.
The mansion stood like a relic of a forgotten time, grand, imposing, and soaked in history. It was as vast as her father’s estate, yet there was something different about it. Something older. Something colder. Harlow hadn’t realized her mouth was hanging open until she felt the dryness on her lips. Despite living a life of wealth and extravagance, she had never seen anything quite like this.
The car circled around a fountain, its centerpiece an enormous serpent coiled in a menacing pose, water trickling from its fangs. Of all the creatures Alanis could have chosen, why a snake?
Her gaze flickered to the servants standing near the mansion’s entrance. The women were dressed in elegant blue dresses, while the male servants wore a refined mix of blue and black.
Instinctively, she turned to Alanis, but this time, he wasn’t looking at her.
His eyes were fixed on something else. And then slowly, he turned to meet her gaze, a soft smile on his lips.
"I was tired of seeing you fight with my mother every day, so I decided to grant one of your romance fantasies," Alanis said calmly and at the same time, the car came to an abrupt stop.
What did he mean by that? Harlow wondered.
"Come." Alanis stepped out of the car and at the same time, the chauffeur opened the car for Harlow and she stepped out hesitantly.
"Welcome back Master and Madam." The maids and servants all sang in unison as they welcomed them with smiles on their faces.
"This is our new home my Villian. Just the way you wanted it. No more fights with my stepmother, just peace." Harlow was momentarily speechless. She felt like a fool to have thought Alanis was going to kill her or harm her.
He... He had only brought her here to fulfill one of her stupid fantasies. Even if she had told him those fantasies were useless, he was still making all of her wishes come true.
Alanis has fulfilled three wishes in no particular order. She had imagined them leaving the Villa together back then due to the pain and suffering she was going through, to a huge mansion where Ales would finally have peace. She couldn’t possibly live here now, plus she still had to avenge the death of her son and other children.
If she’s here, she will forget dealing with those people.
"What do you think?" Alanis asked. "I can give you a tour if you’d like?" He suggested. At the same time, even if Harlow wanted to reject this beautiful mansion, she couldn’t say no to Alanis. He had made her dream home exactly how she wanted it.
This was truly a dream come true.
"Alright." Alanis stretched out his arm and she placed her hands on his. She didn’t argue this time or try to stay away from him. Harlow was too shocked to even react. It still felt like she was dreaming.
There’s no way her dream mansion ever existed. What she still couldn’t understand was how Alanis was able to get the exact building she’d dreamed of.
They walked through the entrance of the mansion, ignoring the maids there as they stepped in. While they entered the first room which was the large living room, Harlow’s mouth fell open. Never in her life has she seen such an extravaganza before.
"This is the living room, my villain," Alanis said and her eyes followed the bright wall to the large floor-to-ceiling curtains. The plush couch and hefty rug rolled all the way from the entrance to the grand stairs.
It was beautifully decorated. Words truly could not describe how large and beautiful the living room was.
"There are more than 100 rooms in the mansion, to entertain guests whenever you’re hosting any event." He said as he took her through the grand stairs. Alanis didn’t bother taking her to the different rooms in the mansion and just took her to the master bedroom meant for both of them.
He had taken his time to decorate the room and make it appealing for her. And he knew she loved it because of the little twinkle in her eyes.
Harlow moved around the room, which looked like it was divided into two sectors. First the mini lounge and then their bedroom. She smiled.
"Do we still have to sleep together?" Was the word that finally slipped from her lips.
"Neither of us can change the rules remember. It’ll be with us for eternity." Alanis said deeping his hands in his pocket.
"I’m beginning to think the rules were made to favor you and not me." She said not looking his way as she opened the large closet and her eyes went wide again.
This wasn’t a closet, it was a large fashion house. Hell, even her closet back at her father’s mansion wasn’t this big.
"So, do you like it?" Alanis finally asked the question he had been meaning to ask. He knew she couldn’t deny her feelings this time because he could see in her eyes that she loved it so much.
"No." Came Harlow’s nonchalant words. freeweɓnøvel.com
