The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 367: The Birthday Gift
"Can I open my eyes now?" Emily asked when she and Kaiden came to a stop after walking for a while.
She felt Kaiden’s hand leaving her waist before it moved to hold her hand and then he entangled their fingers together. He then finally whispered, "You can."
Emily’s eyes immediately flew open as she looked for the surprise birthday gift that Kaiden had prepared for her. As her eyes landed on a very familiar sight right in front of her, she almost forgot to breathe. Shock took over her senses and she was unable to even think properly.
When she didn’t speak for a while, Kaiden decided to break the silence as he asked - "Did you like the present?" His voice carried hope as he waited for a positive response from Emily but all she could muster was - "How...?"
Exactly! How? Her eyes were currently looking at a very familiar building, one that she had drawn herself in her sketchbook during her last year in the academy when the art teacher asked the members of the art club to draw their dream houses. Never in her wildest dreams, she would have expected to see her sketch turning into reality.
A soft smile broke out on Kaiden’s lips and he squeezed her fingers lightly before answering - "You once showed me your sketchbook and I noticed that among all those brilliant artworks, one stood out to me in particular. You titled that sketch as your dream house and I knew it was more than just homework when I saw the next couple of pages where you drew every single room of the house in detail. You even went as far as to mention what kind of bedsheets and curtains you wanted in the house. All the interior designs were specifically mentioned. You even wrote down the type of flowers and trees you wanted to grow in the garden. All that was already more than enough to confirm that it was indeed your dream house but I only confirmed my guess for sure when I saw the architectural model of that very same house sitting inside your apartment bedroom. That day, I decided to bring that dream of yours to life. This house... is my birthday present for you."
Emily just stared at Kaiden in surprise, unable to voice out any words. She took in a deep breath to calm herself down before she finally managed to ask. "Do you know why this is my dream house and not the Alessandro mansion?"
Kaiden shook his head in negative before speaking - "I did want to ask you but I was afraid that you would start suspecting me. So, I never asked. But tell me now - why?"
Emily turned her attention back to the house standing in front of her before she answered - "It was not until my art teacher assigned us this assignment that I realized I was never attached to the Alessandro mansion in itself but to the people living in it whom I call my family. That mansion... it’s just that - a mansion. It’s more of a legacy of our family instead of a home. I remembered asking Sam if they designed the interior of the mansion and he told me the only part of the house they ever messed with were their bedrooms and the kitchen. Over these years, I failed to connect with the mansion deeply. I do love that place because it has been my haven for years. It’s grand, luxurious, beautiful and the house where we live as a family. But... that’s not the house where I imagine my future."
She felt Kaiden stepping closer to her and then his hand left hers before it moved to wrap around her waist once again. He pulled her closer to him before whispering - "But the moment I saw the sketch of this house, I knew this is where I see my future with you. Happy Birthday, my love."
A smile bloomed on Emily’s lips as she turned to face her mate and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. "Thank you, Kaiden. I mean it."
The man returned the hug just as warmly. The two of them remained silent for a while before they finally pulled away from the hug and Kaiden offered - "How about taking a look?"
Emily quickly nodded her head, excited to see her dream house from the inside. They stepped through the main gate and were greeted by the beautiful sight of a small garden. Entering the house, they were greeted by a narrow hallway that led to a cozy drawing room. Other than the living room, the ground floor also had a kitchen with an attached dining room and a guest bedroom. The first floor had a study, an office, and another guest bedroom with an attached bathroom and open balcony. The second floor was where the master bedroom was located, attached to a bathroom, a closet room, and a lounge with an open balcony. The entire house was decorated with plants just like Emily had drawn in her sketch.
"This is so pretty, Kaiden." She found herself confessing as she took in the interior of the Master bedroom. Everything was how she dreamed, not even a single thing was different. "Thank you so much for this." She said while turning to face him.
Kaiden hugged her from behind and rested his chin against the crown of her head before speaking, "As long as you are happy, love. I can not wait for the future when the two of us will finally live here as a family."
Emily felt butterflies in her stomach at his words. She turned around to face him before asking - "Family?"
Kaiden hummed in response. "Right, family. Not as boyfriend and girlfriend. Not only as mates, but also as husband and wife." He tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before he cupped her cheek with his palm. "Be ready, Miss Emilia Alessandro, as I might propose you to marry me anytime soon."
