The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 391: Fractured - Body, Heart, and Soul
The sky hung low with heavy, dark clouds, casting a somber blanket over the landscape. Rain drizzled steadily, each drop a small percussion against the ground, creating a rhythmic patter that seemed to echo the sorrow of the gathered mourners. The air was thick with moisture and the scent of wet earth, mingling with the faint, bittersweet aroma of freshly cut flowers.
Umbrellas dotted the Alessandros’ private cemetery like mournful mushrooms, their black canopies absorbing the bleakness of the day. Everyone was huddled beneath them, shoulders hunched against the cold and their own grief, faces partially obscured by the shadows and the mist that hung in the air. Footsteps squelched in the mud, leaving imprints that quickly filled with water, as if the earth itself sought to erase any trace of the intrusion.
A distant roll of thunder rumbled, a low, ominous growl that seemed to vibrate through the bones. It was a reminder of the tempest above, as if the heavens themselves were mourning. The priest’s voice, usually strong and comforting, was subdued, almost swallowed by the rain. His words, meant to offer solace, floated away on the wind, barely heard by those who needed them most.
The casket, a stark contrast in its polished wood, lay before them, covered in a shroud of rain. Droplets danced upon its surface, tracing erratic paths down its sides. As the ceremony reached its peak, a gust of wind swept through, lifting the edges of the cloth and sending shivers through the assembled crowd. It felt as if the very soul of the departed was bidding one final, ephemeral farewell.
Tears mixed with rain on the mourners’ faces, indistinguishable from one another, each a small testament to the weight of their loss. The world seemed to hold its breath, caught in a moment of shared grief and reflection.
In the end, as the last words were spoken and the final goodbyes whispered, everyone started moving one by one, offering flowers to Shadow for one last time to bid him farewell. Some were crying and some were not, but each face carried a deep pain that spoke louder than the tears.
Once everyone had offered their flowers, Kaiden helped Emily to walk forward before the two of them placed their flowers. It took everything inside Emily to not break down there allmover again as the realization of never being able to see Shadow again in this lifetime dawned over her.
Kaiden’s strong arms held her, helping her and providing her with the only source of warmth and strength that she so desperately needed in that moment.
Another pair of arms suddenly wrapped around Emily’s shoulders before she was pulled away from Kaiden and into Domenic’s arms. "Let’s head home. Let him rest."
He was referring to Shadow. Emily realized and more tears rolled down her cheek. She felt Kaiden finding her hand and giving it a light squeeze before they all started moving. With heavy hearts, they walked outof the cemetery and climbed into their cars. Emily was snuggled into Kaiden’s arms, his presence providing her broken heart some solace.
She took hold of Kaiden’s hand and entwined their fingers before bringing them close to her mouth and placing a kiss on the back of his hand. She knew that he was in pain too. After her, he was the one who was the most broken by Shadow’s departure. Still, he was acting strong so that she could rely on him. She felt so bad and worried for him, but she was in no state to provide him the strength he needed. She was too broken for that. So, she did what she could for him in her state, telling him that she was there with him.
Kaiden tightened his hold around her and pulled her closer into his embrace before resting his face on the top of her head, finding a moment of peace.
Once they returned to the Alessandro Mansion, Emily was ushered to take a warm bath before she was fed a glass of milk forcefully by Daniel and Claire as she hadn’t eaten anything since the night before. Once she finished the milk, she was once again back into Kaiden’s arms as the two of them drifted off to sleep.
When she finally woke up late in the evening, it was because of the nightmares that were haunting her. She was a crying mess while Kaiden and her family tried to comfort her.
As the days started passing, nothing changed. Instead, her situation started becoming even worse. Every night she would dream about Shadow’s death and with every dream she kept realizing that he died because of her. With her deteriorating mental health, her heart was nowhere near healing. While Kaiden and her brothers were trying to handle the aftermath of the war and Shadow’s death, they had also to worry about her heath.
A week after Shadow’s death, Aleron offered to take her to Fae Realm as that place could heal her with its pure elemental power. The Sullivans and Alessandros agreed with the idea and promised to join Emily once they finished taking care of the outside world.
It was not until Emily stepped inside Fae Realm, did she realize what Aleron was talking about. Breathing in the fresh air of that place alone made her feel like a dozen time better than she felt the entire last week.
The Fae Realm turned out her best medicine as she got to spend time with more faes, garden fairies, pixies, mermaids, and other seelie races who started healing her fractured mental state.
A couple of weeks later, Kaiden was the first one to join her in the Fae Realm, informing her about everything that had happened in the outside world. Rafael and most of his army was dead, the remaining rogues who surrendered were sent to the witches to have their memories erased and then sent to work in rebuilding of the cities they destroyed.
Lauren was chosen as the next Supreme Vampire and a new treaty had been signed between human government, vampires, and werewolves to work together in future to avoid a repetition of the war.
