The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 390: The Unexpected Goodbye
With his trembling hands, Shadow squeezed both their fingers lightly as he spoke, "Don’t cry... I’m l-leaving... with a h-happy heart..."
Tears were running down Emily’s cheeks and she kept shaking her head. Every single cell in her body was protesting against the idea of letting her mate leave her like this. Her body, heart, soul, everything was in immense pain and she felt so weak and defeated in that moment.
"Please Shadow, please! Let me feed you. There’s time-"
"There’s none."
For once, his voice came strong as he stared at her with a serious look in his dull eyes that had barely any hint of crimson left in them at this point. "I... I was living on... borrowed t-time... Princess... and I’m v-very happy t-that... I got to a-ccompany you till n-now... I can... leave in peace now..."
"For stars’ sake, Shadow! Stop talking like this. If you don’t need to feed on her then feed on my blood. You need blood to fight this darkness inside you. Pleaseee... please..." Kaiden pleaded as he too refused to believe the truth that he could see with his very own eyes. There was indeed no saving Shadow, but he refused to believe it.
Shadow gave a little shake of his head before he looked at the two most important people in his life. "What I really want... is for the two o-of you... to bid me f-farewell..."
Emily’s cries became even more intense as her ears registered the words. They were just painful as her heart was at the moment. She was aware that their shared soulmate bond was hanging on its very last thread and... that thread was very weak.
She felt two hands reaching out for her and when she looked up, she realized that one belonged to Kaiden while the other one was Shadow’s.
"Don’t cry, love... we w-will definitely meet again... when it will be your t-turn to l-leave this world... I will be t-there for y-you both... n-now... let me g-go... pleaseee..."
Everything shattered inside Emily and her cries stopped as she looked at Shadow’s pleading eyes. She was being selfish by not letting him leave, and he was being selfless as always by forcing himself to stay just because he didn’t want to leave without her permission. Had she ever deserved him as her soulmate?
Kaiden’s hold tightened on Emily’s shoulder and when she momentarily shifted her gaze toward him, the man gave her a little nod of his head.
That very moment, they heard the footsteps rushing behind them and Emily didn’t need to look behind her to know that it was her family and friends.
"Shadow?"
"Supreme Sire..."
The familiar voices sounded broken as they all realized what was happening. There were cries, sobs, and protests, but no one came forward. They allowed the trio to had their last moment together.
Turning her attention back toward Shadow who hadn’t moved his gaze from hervface even for a moment, Emily quickly brushed away her tears and took hold of his hand in both of hers. She brought his hand closer to her mouth and placed a kiss on knuckles before smiling at him warmly.
"You have given us your words. Make sure to fulfill them, or I will hunt you down in the netherworld and make sure that you will regret setting us up." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
A faint smile bloomed on Shadow’s lips as heslolwy nodded his head in agreement. Kaiden’s lips curved as well at her words while he too held Shadow’s other hand in his warm palm.
"You should also remember that there are so many people here who loves you so much. Let’s start the list with my dear brother Domenic. If you are still not aware, then let me tell you that he is always ready to choose you over Kaiden."
There were some chuckles from behind them and Shadow’s lips curled a little more. Emily brushed away some loose strands of hair from his forehead before continuing, "All my brothers, my friends, Kaiden and his family, the werewolf packs, the vampires... everyone respects you like no other. Please don’t have any regrets, Shadow. You are the most powerful, talented, responsible, selfless, and handsome man this world has seen in a while. You have win several hearts here... including mine."
Her voice started getting hoarse as she realized that it was time to say the last farewell. She took in a deep breath and tried to hold back her tears with every ounce of self-control she had. As if realizing that she needed a moment, Kaiden decided to speak his part first.
"Don’t worry, Shadow. I promise I will take care of her for the rest of my life. I will treat her like the Princess she is. I will make sure she’s always happy, and we will visit you often to accompany you. I will also be waiting to meet you again."
Shadow once again gave a little nod of his head as if he was unable to speak.
Bringing the smile back to her lips, Emily spoke, "I love you, Shadow, and I will love you forever. You should... rest in peace..."
As the last words left her lips, she wasn’t the only one crying this time. A lone tear escaped the corner of Shadow’s eye and landed on her sleeve. He gazed at her for a moment as if he was engraving her face in his mind before his eyes finally started dropping.
Emily felt that last thread breaking inside her and an unbearable pain shot through her body. She wanted to cry out loud, to curl on the ground and weep at the loss, but she forced herself to bear the pain. She bent her head and placed a last kiss on Shadow’s cold lips before she placed her face over his dead heart.
She felt Kaiden’s warm surrounding her as he covered her with his own form, grieving for their loss together. This time, there was no stopping the tears.
