The Cat-Like Miss Preston: Mr. CEO begs for Reconciliation!-Chapter 128: Mr. Xavier, Are You Satisfied?
Chloe Preston’s fair, lovely face broke into a smile as she leaned in and kissed his lips.
The touch of her soft lips on his cool ones always made one’s heart race.
"Do you know what it tastes like now?" she asked softly.
Donovan Xavier shook his head. "I still don’t know. Miss Quinn, could you kiss me a few more times?"
Chloe Preston folded her arms and looked at him. "I think you’re just using this as an excuse to get me to kiss you!"
"I am," Donovan Xavier admitted freely, a smile tugging at his lips. "So, will you?"
"I will."
As she spoke, Chloe Preston leaned down and planted a kiss on the man’s handsome face.
"Is Mr. Xavier satisfied now?"
Donovan Xavier’s lips curled slightly. "It’s alright."
He shifted his body, trying to sit up.
Chloe Preston instantly grew nervous. "Donovan, you’re injured! Don’t move."
"It’s fine." Donovan Xavier propped himself up, leaning against the headboard.
His face was still pale and haggard. Chloe Preston watched him silently, her eyes beginning to redden.
"Donovan, you’ve suffered so much."
Donovan Xavier’s dark eyes shifted, and his thin lips parted. "This is nothing. It was just a couple of nicks from a knife. Nothing life-threatening."
Chloe Preston pressed her lips together and said nothing.
Seeing her eyes well up with tears, Donovan Xavier’s heart clenched. He forced a gentle smile. "Is my little crybaby going to cry again? Come closer, let me wipe your tears."
He slowly raised his hand, wanting to pull her into his arms.
Chloe Preston stopped him. "I told you not to move! What if you aggravate your wound? Does it hurt?"
His expression softened. "As long as you’re here, it doesn’t hurt."
Chloe Preston’s heart fluttered.
"Chloe Preston, come here. Let me hold you," he said with a smile.
She bit her lip, refusing. "No, I’ll press against your wound."
"It’s fine," Donovan Xavier said. "The wound is on my left side. If you lie on my right, it won’t hurt."
In the end, Chloe Preston couldn’t refuse him. She tentatively rested against his chest, still afraid of hurting him.
Donovan Xavier held her hand and closed his eyes, gently inhaling her pleasant, faint fragrance. He felt an incredible sense of peace.
"Chloe Preston, do you know that when I was drugged, all I could think about was you?"
Chloe Preston looked up at him, her eyes shining brightly. "Really?"
Donovan Xavier lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "Mm. The thought of you drove me mad. You have no idea what that was like. It was truly worse than death."
"If you had been there, I would have made you mine without a second thought. Then I wouldn’t have had to endure such agony."
"Since you were in so much pain, and Rosalind Rowan was right there, why didn’t you..." Chloe started.
A smile played in Donovan Xavier’s eyes as his nose brushed against her ear. "Besides you, I’d rather die than touch anyone else."
"For a moment, though, I actually mistook her for you. That drug was just too potent. Thankfully, my willpower was strong enough to hold on."
"Miss Quinn, I saved myself for you. How are you going to reward me?"
Her ears grew warm and ticklish from his touch. She dodged to the side. "Ahem, you should focus on getting better first. We can talk about this later."
"Do you want some water? I can get it for you."
"No need," Donovan Xavier said.
"Then... are you hungry?"
Donovan Xavier paused for a moment, then nodded.
Chloe Preston stood up to look at him. "You should get some sleep, then. I’ll go buy you something to eat. What would you like?"
Donovan Xavier yanked her back down, his lips brushing against her ear as he kissed it. "You."
Chloe Preston was speechless.
Her face flushed slightly as she avoided his burning gaze. "You’re injured. Stop messing around."
Donovan Xavier raised an eyebrow, nibbling on her ear. "Hmm?"
Chloe Preston coughed softly. "You... try to be serious."
"How am I not being serious?"
Just as Donovan Xavier was speaking, the door suddenly opened with a CLICK.
Isla Xavier walked in, and her face lit up when she saw him. "Brother, you’re awake!"
"Mm," Donovan Xavier replied.
Luna Kane sat in a wheelchair as Caleb Xavier pushed her slowly into the room.
"Luna, are you tired? Let me massage your shoulders," he said, reaching for her shoulder.
Luna Kane turned her head slightly and shot him a cold, sideways glance without saying a word.
Caleb Xavier immediately retracted his hand.
Seeing them enter, Chloe Preston panicked and quickly got off the bed, smoothing out the slight wrinkles in her dress.
Rosalind Rowan stood to the side, watching the scene. She silently clenched her fists, her aura turning frigid.
Donovan Xavier leaned against the headboard and raised his eyes to look at the old man, his voice cold. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you," Caleb Xavier said. "You’re so hurt, do you know how worried I am?!"
A cold smile tugged at Donovan Xavier’s lips. "Worried? Isn’t this all thanks to you?"
"If you hadn’t taken it upon yourself to drug me, would any of this have happened?"
"I never thought my own grandfather would resort to such tactics against me!"
Caleb Xavier glared at him. "I only did this for your own good! Rosalind is gentle, understanding, beautiful, and poised. Only a woman like her is worthy of being your Mrs. Xavier!"
Rosalind Rowan walked over, carefully taking his arm. Her expression was gentle as she spoke in a soft voice, "Grandpa, don’t say that. I’m not as good as you make me out to be."
"That’s my Rosalind, always so humble. Grandpa likes you the most," Caleb Xavier said, patting her hand.
Rosalind Rowan offered a small smile.
Donovan Xavier watched them quietly, his lips curled, but his tone was laced with a chilling venom. "Since you think she’s so wonderful, why don’t you two get together?"
"I have no objections, at any rate."
"Donovan Xavier!" Caleb Xavier’s eyebrows shot up in a fury. "What is this nonsense you’re spouting? How did the Xavier Family produce a disgrace like you!"
Donovan Xavier remained unbothered. He straightened his blanket and gave a faint smile. "Yes, I’m a disgrace. That’s why I’m not worthy of the great Miss Rowan. A person as exceptionally wonderful as her could only be a match for someone like you."
As he spoke, he glanced at Luna Kane in her wheelchair. "Grandma, what do you think?"
"He’s right," said Luna Kane.
Caleb Xavier was fuming. He clutched at his aching chest, his anger boiling over. "You unfilial whelp! See if I don’t beat you to death today!"
With that, he snatched the dragon-headed cane from Isla Xavier and rushed forward, intending to strike him hard.
Chloe Preston hurried to shield Donovan. "Grandpa Xavier, Donovan is injured! You can’t hit him!"
"Get out of the way, or I’ll hit you too!" Caleb Xavier roared.
Luna Kane’s fingers, which had been moving over her Buddha beads, stilled. Her gaze was icy as she glared at him. "Caleb Xavier, you dare touch them while I’m here!"
Caleb Xavier immediately backed down.
His Luna had just called him by his full name.
"Quite the display of authority," Luna Kane said, her voice laced with anger. "Do you often beat my dear grandson like this?"
Caleb Xavier’s voice became smaller. "Of course not, Luna! It’s just that Donovan is too disobedient! He’s always defying me!"
With a full head of silver hair, Luna Kane’s face was extremely cold. "How is he disobedient? He just wants to be with the person he loves. What has he done wrong?"
"I just heard you. You even drugged him, didn’t you? He’s your own grandson, how could you do such a thing to him!"
"So what if I did?" Caleb Xavier retorted. "It was for his own good! This Preston woman has nothing to offer but a pretty face. What makes her qualified to marry into our Xavier family?"
"Come here," Luna Kane said, her voice devoid of emotion.
Caleb Xavier met her gaze and shivered. "You... what are you going to do?"
"Come here," Luna Kane repeated.
Caleb Xavier walked over.
"Closer."
He leaned against the side of the wheelchair.
"Lower your head," Luna Kane instructed. "A little lower."
Caleb Xavier complied. "Luna, what is this..."
SLAP!
A forceful slap landed squarely on his face.
Caleb Xavier covered his numb, stinging cheek, looking at her in disbelief. "Luna, why did you hit me?"
"You deserve it!" Luna Kane snapped.
