The Cat-Like Miss Preston: Mr. CEO begs for Reconciliation!-Chapter 138: Be Good, Honey, Don’t Move
She had just bitten his lip. Fresh, red blood welled up, staining her delicate, snow-white skin. The air around them gradually grew warm. The man raised his hand, his firm, powerful forearm wrapping around her slender back and pulling her into his embrace.
Chloe Preston’s pretty face flushed a rosy red. She coughed lightly and pushed him. "Let... let go of me." Her complaint was coquettish and girlish, nothing like the furious little hedgehog she had been outside.
Donovan Xavier didn’t let go. He lowered his head, wanting to kiss her again.
"No." She avoided his kiss, refusing him.
"You don’t like it?"
Chloe Preston didn’t answer. Her hands pressed against his sturdy chest as she pushed him again. "It’s so hot like this. You... you should keep your distance."
"I’m cold. I need to be closer to you."
Donovan Xavier leaned in, his dark eyes fixed on her as the tip of his nose gently brushed against her cheek. It tickled, like the brush of a feather. Chloe Preston’s face turned even redder, as delicate and alluring as a dew-kissed flower.
She reached out and pinched his arm. "Stop fooling around. Be serious."
"Donovan Xavier, let go. You’re squishing our baby."
Only then did Donovan Xavier loosen his hold slightly. He reached out, his warm palm covering her belly and caressing it gently. "Sigh, this little thing really is a nuisance. I..."
Before he could finish, Chloe Preston pointed at her stomach, her delicate brows furrowed. "How can you say our baby is a nuisance? He’ll hear you, and it will make him sad."
Donovan Xavier asked, "He’s so small, still inside you. Can he really hear?"
"Of course! He’ll think his daddy doesn’t like him."
Donovan Xavier fell silent. After a moment of thought, he gently stroked her warm belly and chuckled softly. "Be good, baby. Daddy loves you very much."
"Behave in Mommy’s tummy. Otherwise, when you come out, Daddy will spank your little bottom."
Chloe Preston laughed along with him. His lip was still bleeding, so she pulled out a tissue and carefully wiped it for him. "Does it hurt a lot?"
Donovan Xavier feigned being aggrieved. "When you were biting me, did you stop to think if it would hurt?"
"Mrs. Xavier, you have such a cruel heart. It’s as if you wanted to bite me to death."
Chloe Preston pouted. "It’s your fault for forcing a kiss on me and refusing to let go."
Donovan Xavier leaned in, resting his chin on her shoulder. "If I had let you go, you would have left immediately. Would you still be here talking to me so nicely?"
"I was just seeing red! I saw you with that woman, her shirt was unbuttoned—I could even see the color of her bra! At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to slap you across the face for betraying me."
Donovan Xavier coaxed her patiently. "I didn’t betray you. She was the one seducing me. I already told her to get lost, but she insisted on clinging to me. But don’t worry, I pushed her away immediately and didn’t let her touch me at all. Chloe, I’m yours. I’ll always be yours and yours alone."
"Chloe, please don’t be mad at me anymore, okay?"
Chloe Preston looked at him, her eyes as clear as water. The man possessed a noble and imposing air. His brows were proud, his nose high and straight, and his deep, dark eyes were framed by a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, completing his devastatingly handsome appearance.
Chloe Preston bit her lip. "It’s all your fault."
Donovan Xavier frowned. "How is it my fault again?"
Chloe Preston reached out, hooked his black tie, and yanked him closer. "It’s your fault for being too good-looking!"
Donovan Xavier raised an eyebrow. "Hmm?"
Chloe Preston crossed her arms. "That woman was trying to seduce you for one of two reasons: either for your money or for your looks." If he weren’t so handsome and so rich, that woman definitely wouldn’t have thrown herself into his arms.
As she spoke, Chloe Preston reached up and pinched his handsome face, squeezing it firmly. "Tell me, why can’t you be a little uglier and a little poorer!"
Donovan Xavier let her have her way, kissing her on the forehead with a laugh. "If I were a little uglier, would you still like me?"
Chloe Preston nodded earnestly. "Yes, I would."
When they first got together, she had been quite infatuated with his face. Now, however, she loved him for the man he was. It had nothing to do with his looks or anything else; she loved him simply because he was him. He was her Donovan, her husband for life. Like the rising sun, his presence made her world bright and clear.
Donovan Xavier held her hand, stroking it gently. His voice was deep as he said, "But if that were the case, I’d feel like I don’t deserve you. Besides, if I weren’t so rich, how would I provide for you and the baby?"
Chloe Preston patted her chest. "It’s okay. I have money. I’ll support you."
A smile spread across Donovan Xavier’s handsome face. "I almost forgot, our Chloe has her own company. Should I start calling you President Quinn?"
Chloe Preston didn’t respond. She lowered her eyes and began rummaging through her handbag.
"What are you looking for?" Donovan Xavier leaned in to ask.
Chloe Preston pulled a bank card from her bag and handed it to him, her eyes curving into crescents as she smiled. "Take it and spend it," she said magnanimously. "Now that you’re with President Quinn, you won’t have to worry about a thing."
She really was planning to support him. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Donovan Xavier took the card, a brow ticking up slightly. "TSK. You’re quite generous."
With that, he put the bank card back in her bag and pulled her into his arms. His eyes were full of adoration as he kissed her fair cheek. "But how could I possibly let you support me? You married me and became my wife. You’re supposed to live a life of bliss."
A wave of sweetness washed over Chloe Preston’s heart.
He held her very tightly, and she started to feel overwhelmed. "You’re holding me too tight again! Loosen up a little," she protested.
Her voice was naturally soft and melodious. To a man’s ears, it was an irresistible enchantment—the best kind of aphrodisiac. He wanted to hold her even tighter, wishing he could merge her into his very bones and blood.
Seeing that he wouldn’t let go no matter what, she struggled a little. "Donovan Xavier, are you going to keep pushing it?"
Donovan Xavier buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her light fragrance. "Wifey, be good," he said, his voice thick with desire. "Don’t move. Just let me hold you for a while."
Chloe Preston’s ears turned slightly red. He usually called her ’baby’; hearing him call her ’wifey’ was rare.
Donovan Xavier noticed and smiled. He turned his head and whispered hoarsely into her ear, "Do you like it when I call you that? Hmm? Want to hear it more?"
Chloe Preston pursed her lips and said nothing.
Of course, she did.
Donovan Xavier had already read her mind. The cool tip of his nose brushed across her face, and his Adam’s apple bobbed. "If you want to hear more, you’ll have to please me first."
Chloe Preston frowned. "Please you?"
"Help me, Chloe."
"!!"
She almost jumped to her feet and scrambled away, frantically avoiding his gaze. This man was unbelievable...
Chloe Preston’s eyes fell on the thermal food container on the side. She opened it, and a fragrant, hot steam wafted out. She handed it to him and cleared her throat twice, changing the subject. "I guessed you didn’t eat much for lunch, so I made some soup for you."
Donovan Xavier leaned closer, staring at her intently.
Chloe Preston said, "Have some. This soup is for... cooling you down."
