The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 11: The Finest Selection
Yelena Hughes didn’t dare harbor any other thoughts and took a step back.
Beside the hospital bed were various instruments, and looking at Nancy Alden in this state, she didn’t seem like she was just asleep.
The ’living dead’ Justin Sutton mentioned was probably referring to a vegetative state.
Jasper Yale saw her standing there motionless. "Wait for me outside."
"Alright."
The entire bed was surrounded by delicate white gauze, decorated like a princess’s chamber. It was evident that Jasper held her dear to his heart.
"Still not leaving?"
Yelena lifted her feet and walked outside to find a chair to sit on.
The corridor was empty and cold. Yelena waited for over an hour, but Jasper didn’t come out.
She stared at the tightly closed hospital room door. For a moment earlier, she surprisingly saw tenderness in Jasper’s eyes.
He was usually so cold and indifferent, yet his face was softened, making him so handsome.
Yelena felt a bit envious of Nancy Alden. Even though the Alden Family had already collapsed, if she could wake up, and if she asked for a star in the sky, Jasper would probably get it for her?
Yelena’s eyes felt sore from the cold, and her eyelids gradually drooped.
When Jasper woke up the next morning, he was still holding Nancy’s hand. His fingers grazed over the back of her hand, still with no response.
The room contained Jasper’s toiletries. After tidying up, he went out.
Yelena, exhausted from the previous night, had curled up on a chair and fallen asleep. As Jasper passed by her, he paused.
He lightly kicked her foot, and Yelena almost fell off the chair.
"Can we go now?" She hadn’t realized she’d waited all night.
"Who asked you to stay here?"
Yelena was still clear-headed. "You said to wait for you outside."
Jasper didn’t remember saying that. He glanced at Yelena’s pale face from the cold. "Let’s go."
She followed him to the hospital cafeteria.
Outside, it wasn’t fully light yet. The cafeteria was almost empty. Jasper walked to the counter and then asked her, "What do you want to eat?"
She was both hungry and cold, so she immediately leaned her face forward.
"I want porridge, a bowl of noodles, and a meat bun."
The cafeteria lady glanced at her, "You won’t finish it, right? We serve noodles in large bowls here."
"Just follow her order." Jasper ordered two more items for himself and found a place to sit.
Seeing this, Yelena quickly took out her phone to pay, but the screen was black—it was out of battery.
Noticing the cafeteria lady’s occasional glance, she hurried to Jasper’s side. "Pay the bill."
"What bill?"
She lowered her voice, "We haven’t paid for the breakfast. My phone is off."
Jasper gave her a quick glance, "No need."
Breakfast was served quickly, and the noodle bowl was indeed large. Yelena almost buried her face in it.
Jasper watched her gulp down noodles and gnaw on the bun like she was starving. Yelena remained silent the entire time, only drinking the porridge at the end.
Jasper handed her a small bun, "Do you want more?"
"No, I’ve had enough."
Just as she said that, she heard Jasper ask, "Why did you come to the hospital, who are you here to see?"
Yelena stared at her porridge, "A relative of mine is hospitalized."
"What kind of relationship requires a midnight visit?"
The words stuck in Yelena’s throat.
"Do you know who’s on that hospital bed?" Jasper asked again, his tone pressing.
Yelena couldn’t take another bite, placing her chopsticks down as Jasper’s voice carried a warning.
"Do not tell a third person, do not report this, do not come again."
If she dared break any of these, there would probably be severe consequences.
Half a year of following the news was wasted just like that, and Yelena felt somewhat unwilling.
"What about my medication, will you still give it to me?"
His heart was full of Miss Alden, yet he accused Yelena of being technically insufficient, perhaps even considering dropping her.
Jasper’s eyes swept over her, "Let’s see your performance."
Men really are trash, with a treasure in their hearts, yet it doesn’t prevent them from sneaking around.
Yelena went home, changed clothes, tidied up, and then went to work.
Her partner was a college classmate, a clean-looking guy who was even wearing makeup. Upon seeing Yelena, he shook his head disapprovingly. "Even if you don’t wear heavy makeup, putting on some lipstick isn’t too much, right?"
"I’m just dealing with a lot."
Dean Holloway nudged Yelena’s arm, "The little website I shared with you is quite nice, huh? Aren’t you tempted day and night..."
Yelena reached out to cover his mouth, "Can you speak a bit lower?"
"I’m telling you, just watching won’t work," Dean said as he opened a drawer, grabbed a handful of something, and stuffed it into Yelena’s bag. "No need to thank me, I got you a set while I was at it."
"What is it?"
Yelena tugged at a strap, and just one look made her blush enough to stuff it back into her bag. "Who wants this stuff? Take it back."
Dean patted her shoulder, "You just don’t get it. Men who say they like modest, cute, aloof women, that’s all after they get off the bed. Once they’ve pulled you into bed, if you don’t have some skills, they’ll turn their heads and find someone else."
If Yelena couldn’t hold onto Jasper, her future medication would be in jeopardy.
"Did you catch Nancy Alden last night?" Dean didn’t hold out much hope for this news.
Yelena shook her head, "No."
"Just focus on Felix Wood’s side for now. Over the past year, many have tried to dig up Nancy Alden’s whereabouts, but she’s disappeared without a trace."
Yelena wanted to say she hadn’t disappeared; she was just being very well protected by a man. "It’s the usual plan tonight, you’re coming with me to shadow Felix Wood."
Dean patted his chest, "Sure thing, but just remember, posing as a lady in a place like that, be careful. It’s a den of wolves."
"Mm."
For several days, the two practically lived at The Sovereign Club, but still came up empty-handed.
Rushing won’t work with news; they could only wait.
As night fell, day and night alternated, the air in Southcross City was filled with a sense of indulgence and lust.
Before entering The Sovereign Club, Yelena handed her phone to Dean, "Hope we have some luck today."
Her makeup was so heavy she almost couldn’t recognize herself. She followed a group of giggly women into the private room.
Yelena lightly lifted her head. Within the circular sofa, a few clusters of people gathered. In the center, a man was playing cards.
Jasper’s presence was starkly out of place with the surrounding banter and teasing, his black suit accentuating his noble and cool demeanor.
Yelena quickly scanned the room, immediately spotting her target, Felix Wood.
Bald, pot-bellied, shorter than 1.6 meters, truly sleazy.
She wasn’t sure if she was lucky or unlucky tonight.
"Come, come, Young Master Yale, these are the finest beauties in The Sovereign Club."
