The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 141: So Strong—Who Are You Trying to Impress?
She could persuade other people’s fathers to come down, watch others reunite, but where are her own relatives?
Dead or alive, there isn’t even a trace of news.
The New Year’s Eve is almost here, will he still be absent this year? 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Jasper Yale placed his hand on Yelena Hughes’s shoulder, and she tightly wrapped her arms around his waist.
Some people, some things, you just can’t think about.
After the man was rescued, he walked towards Yelena Hughes. She heard the footsteps and quickly looked up,
Yelena Hughes withdrew her hand and wiped her face.
"I said I would help you, I won’t break my word."
"Thank you, miss. It’s so late, and the weather is so cold, you’ve suffered following me."
Yelena Hughes had snow falling on her head and shoulders. She was freezing, and her words were fumbling.
"I’m young, it’s okay, I’m dressed warmly against the cold."
The firefighter responsible for the rescue also thanked her.
Yelena Hughes’s hand was held in Jasper Yale’s palm, but no matter what, it wouldn’t warm up, as if it was frostbitten.
When they got back downstairs, Dean Holloway let out a long sigh, "Yelena, are you okay?"
Yelena Hughes shook her head, she just felt very cold.
Jasper Yale held her as they got into the car, Dean Holloway closely followed behind, "How did you persuade him to come down?"
Jasper Yale forced Yelena Hughes into the back seat and blocked Dean Holloway, "It’s late, we should be going back."
"Dean, you’d better contact his family..."
She stuck her head out, wanting to say something, but a hand pressed down on her head.
Jasper Yale pushed her back.
Yelena Hughes watched as Jasper Yale got in, and as the door closed, warmth flooded in. The snow on her head melted, and her hair became damp.
Hailey Jenkins handed over a towel, Yelena Hughes reached for it.
"Thank you."
Jasper Yale took it first, then placed it over her head, rubbing vigorously.
Yelena Hughes’s head was being rubbed back and forth, "I... I can do it myself."
He also wiped her face.
Yelena Hughes’s fingers were frozen bright red, even with the heat inside the car it was of no use.
"Hailey, see if there’s anywhere nearby to eat."
"Alright."
It was one or two in the morning, and it was snowing heavily, not sure if any restaurants would be open.
"I’m not hungry." Yelena Hughes didn’t like to trouble others, nor did she like making a fuss.
But she knew Jasper Yale wouldn’t listen to her.
Yelena Hughes glanced out the window, the car was moving slowly, and the storefront lights of a convenience store were shining brightly.
She pointed a finger at the glass, "Let’s go to Family Mart."
Hailey Jenkins turned to ask Jasper Yale’s opinion.
"We’ll go with her choice."
The parking was tight, only a narrow path in front, so Yelena Hughes and Jasper Yale walked a few steps over, and she pushed open the glass door.
"Welcome to Family Mart."
She walked straight to the counter, "Do you still have oden?"
"Yes, go ahead and serve yourself."
Yelena Hughes grabbed a paper cup and picked a few skewers. She looked at where Jasper Yale was standing, "What would you like to eat?"
"Nothing."
"Then let’s just start with these." Yelena Hughes prepared to pay, and saw instant noodles off to the side, hurriedly grabbing a cup.
Near the entrance was a row of chairs, Yelena Hughes carried the prepared noodles over, she sat down and gestured for Jasper Yale to sit as well.
Through a huge pane of glass, at that hour, she could still see people walking in the snow outside.
Yelena Hughes placed her hands over the noodles to let the rising steam warm her fingers.
"Have you heard the saying, ’Everyday life is the balm for a simple heart’?"
She laughed again, as if nothing had happened earlier.
The noodles were still a bit hard, but Yelena Hughes took a spoonful and began eating heartily.
Her hair hung down the side of her face, almost dipping into the broth, as Yelena Hughes reached out, Jasper Yale tucked her hair behind her ear.
She glanced at the man, "Thank you."
From the distant road, there weren’t many cars now. Through the glass, the images of Yelena Hughes and Jasper Yale were particularly clear.
She took a couple more mouthfuls of noodles, the heat from them enveloping her face, her eyes were stung red.
If Jasper Yale wasn’t there, she truly wanted to cry.
The suppressed emotions from the night’s rescue were about to break free.
Yelena Hughes took a deep breath, she would cry later, cry when she was back home, hidden under the covers.
"Thinking about your father again?"
Suddenly, Jasper Yale’s words rang in her ears.
The heart she had fought to harden suddenly cracked open, throbbing fiercely.
"Jasper..." she wanted him to stop talking.
"A living person vanished without a trace, has he not called at all over the past year and more?"
Yelena Hughes tightly gripped the spoon in her hand, helplessly nodded her head.
That was not a good sign, Jasper Yale thought only of four words, ’ominous foreboding.’
Yelena Hughes’s tears began to well up again. She pretended to wipe her face, using her fingers to brush at her eyes.
"You don’t need to hold it in, if you want to cry, just let it out."
"Who’s crying? The noodles are just too spicy."
Jasper Yale exposed her, "This is clear broth."
Yelena Hughes tossed the spoon into the noodles, her lips pressed tight, very stubborn.
So stubborn that even when the tears fell, she wouldn’t admit she was crying.
"Yelena Hughes, who are you trying to show your strength to? No one cares whether you are weak or strong right now."
Her lips pressed together forcefully, the corners trembling.
She wanted to stand and go home, but Jasper Yale held her shoulder down.
He stepped closer, wrapping his hands around the back of her head, pressed her face gently against his chest.
The moment her face touched Jasper Yale’s chest, he felt the tears soak through his shirt.
Yelena Hughes clenched the fabric at his waist with both hands, her shoulders heaving, gradually crying like a child.
The whimpering emerged from her throat; she was aggrieved, distressed, and despairing.
The cashier heard the noise and hurried over to check. Seeing them embraced, it seemed like a little lovers’ quarrel.
After a bout of crying, Yelena Hughes gradually quieted down.
When she pulled away, Jasper Yale handed her two tissues.
Yelena Hughes wiped her face. Jasper Yale intended to take her home, but she once again held the cup of noodles.
Only after finishing the noodles and oden, did she stand up.
When she got back in the car, she felt warm, but utterly exhausted.
The fullness from eating made her sleepy.
Originally leaning to the side, she gradually lost control, her body tilting towards Jasper Yale.
Yelena Hughes’s head rested on the man’s shoulder; she felt the warmth and snuggled closer.
In her sleep, she sensed the strength of this arm, she was so tired, wanting only to lean and rest a while.
