The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 34: Her Preparation
Vera Xavier murmured, "So Cara Preston started scheming for Nathaniel Nathan all the way back then. I was just the one who didn’t know."
Nathaniel Nathan’s family didn’t live in the large residential compound, but in a small villa in the southern part of the city.
He was so exceptional that he was not only a role model for the other kids in the compound, but also the most brilliant student at their high school. His excellence was enough to make any girl with a budding crush fall for him.
She glanced down at her clothes and shoes and smiled. ’These are all from him. I spent a good part of yesterday up close with him; I don’t need to run to the basketball court just for a faraway glimpse like them.’
She had other things to do and was just wondering how to ditch Cara Preston, so when Elise Langdon dragged Cara away, it was exactly what she wanted.
Because of Rona Langdon’s tirade this morning, Vera Xavier realized something. Even if she got into college, Rona Langdon would never pay her tuition or living expenses, and Zachary Preston was basically helpless against Rona.
Therefore, she had to find a way to earn enough money for college.
Earning money itself wasn’t the biggest problem for her; the challenge was getting the seed money. Right now, she only had the five hundred yuan Zachary Preston had given her. To turn that into enough for college, she’d need to multiply it at least tenfold just to cover her first year of tuition.
’What kind of business is both legal and offers enormous returns on a small investment?’
Vera Xavier’s first thought was jade gambling.
She knew a bit about the jade gambling trade from her past life but had never dared to get involved. The "gambling" part of the name was no joke—it truly came down to luck, and she had always felt her luck wasn’t particularly good.
Jade gambling was a true case of "one cut to heaven, one cut to hell." A winning bet meant a massive profit, but a losing one meant you were left with something worthless.
’But in this life, I have a Superpower, X-ray vision. Why not give it a shot?’
Of course, the best place for jade gambling was Zartania. She couldn’t possibly go now since she had school, though she could give it a try after the college entrance exams were over. For now, she could head to Cobble Street and test out her X-ray vision Superpower to see how effective it was.
She vaguely recalled from her past life that around this time of year, someone had discovered a piece of top-quality Emperor Green on Cobble Street, causing a sensation throughout the entire city. She had been completely overwhelmed with her own problems back then and hadn’t paid attention to the exact date. ’It should be around now. I’ll go try my luck today.’
Cobble Street wasn’t far from where she was. Crestfall hadn’t been expanded yet at this point, so the city center wasn’t very large. It would only be a twenty-minute walk.
After a moment’s thought, she slung her schoolbag over her shoulder and headed straight there.
Cobble Street was right next to Antique Row. It once had another name: the Ghost Market. The name came from the fact that deals were made in the dead of night, with people emerging like ghosts after hiding all day.
After the economic reforms, the area had come to life and was now a picture of bustling prosperity.
Cobble Street wasn’t long, only about two hundred meters. It had maybe twenty-some shops, several of which sold finished jade pieces and various decorative ornaments. All told, there were fewer than ten shops that actually sold raw stone.
The stones in these shops were all rejects from The Jade Mine. From a professional’s point of view, they were all of inferior quality.
Vera Xavier, her schoolbag still on her back, walked into one of the shops. Dressed like a student, she clearly didn’t look like she had any money. The shop owner took one look at her and didn’t even bother with a greeting. That suited her just fine, leaving her in peace to browse the stones displayed outside.
She recalled the rumors from her past life: the legendary piece of Emperor Green had been found in a pile of worthless rocks, and the stone itself supposedly wasn’t very large.
PS: Thank you to all my dears for the support! Mwah!
