The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 52: I Don’t Like You
Cara Preston had excellent grades, while Vera Xavier had always been a slacker. At school, students were always more forgiving of their high-achieving peers.
So right now, the students in the class were all a bit skeptical, their gazes shifting back and forth between Cara Preston and Vera Xavier. For a moment, they didn’t know who to believe.
Vera Xavier knew what they were thinking but didn’t say much. She glanced at Shane Caldwell and said, "Class President, don’t worry. I don’t have a crush on you, and I certainly won’t bother you."
After she spoke, she went back to her review book, completely ignoring the gawking classmates. She picked up her pen and began working on problems as if no one else were there.
Shane Caldwell froze instantly. He suddenly felt like his own words to Vera Xavier had just come back to slap him in the face...
His face flushed involuntarily. He couldn’t help but glance at Vera Xavier. She was sitting there quietly, her demeanor calm and serene. Her fair profile was delicate and exquisite, her slender neck graceful and elegant. He heard his own heart begin to pound again.
He jerked his head away, refusing to look at Vera Xavier, and said in a deliberately cold tone, "That’s for the best. Good that you know your place!"
Just then, the academic representative, Shirley Forrest, who sat behind Cara Preston, spoke up. "Cara Preston, please pay more attention in class from now on. Stop looking around. During math, your hair knocked my test paper over three times."
Shirley Forrest was the class’s well-known ice queen. Although her grades were a little worse than Shane Caldwell’s, she was consistently ranked second in the class.
She was also the only student who hadn’t been part of the gawking crowd today.
Her words sent the classroom into an uproar once again. No one doubted what Shirley Forrest said, because while she rarely spoke, she never lied.
"Cara Preston is disgusting. She’s clearly the one who likes the class president, but she insists it’s Vera Xavier. How can she be like that!"
"Vera Xavier’s grades might be a bit poor, but she seems like an honest person. And with Shirley Forrest vouching for her, I believe what Vera said."
"You really can’t judge a book by its cover!"
Hearing the gossip, Cara Preston’s face paled with anger. She glared at Shirley Forrest and snapped, "What nonsense are you spouting?"
Shirley Forrest tilted her head up slightly, her cool eyes fixed on Cara Preston. "Am I not telling the truth?"
Cara Preston was speechless. Shirley Forrest added, "I suggest you either cut your hair or stop wearing it in a ponytail when you’re spying on people. That way, you won’t bother others, and you’ll at least appear to have better manners."
Cara Preston glared at Shirley Forrest, but Shirley simply ignored her, lowered her head, and went back to grinding through her practice problems.
Cara Preston had always cherished her reputation and was skilled at putting on an act. People usually coddled her, so this was the first time she had ever been forced to suffer such a silent, humiliating defeat.
Besides, Shirley Forrest’s family had some connections, so Cara Preston didn’t dare to provoke her too much. She could only redirect her anger toward Vera Xavier, but now wasn’t the time to say anything. So, all she could do was shoot Vera a vicious glare.
But Vera Xavier was reading her book and didn’t even see it. The glare was completely wasted.
This made Cara Preston absolutely furious.
The corners of Vera Xavier’s mouth curved up slightly. ’She knew what Cara Preston was planning. In the end, it was all about using Shane Caldwell to make her the target of the other girls in class, all to keep her from studying in peace.’
’She also knew the only reason Cara was doing this was because Vera’s handling of Rona Langdon yesterday had made Cara feel threatened. After all, Cara knew her grades weren’t nearly as bad as she’d let on.’
