Chapter 72: Chapter 72: You Don’t Deserve to Wear It

Vera looked at Rona and said, "Go ahead. Go to the police. Let’s see who they believe—you or me!"

She had tolerated Rona for a very long time. With Zachary away for the past few days, Rona, true to form, would have tried every trick in the book to make her life miserable. ’Why should I just stand here and let Rona bully me?’

In her past life, she had believed Rona was her biological mother, so she had endured it. But in this life, she knew Rona wasn’t her mother at all. That being the case, why should she continue to give in to her at every turn?

Rona looked at this side of Vera. The seemingly frail girl’s gaze was as sharp as a knife. She knew perfectly well that after what had just happened, no one would believe a word she said. They would only suspect her of abusing Vera again.

Fear finally took root in her heart, and she said hurriedly, "Vera, don’t do anything rash! Put the scissors down, quickly!"

Vera looked at Rona and said, "Mother, I didn’t grow up with you, so you might not know my temperament. Let me spell it out for you today. Normally, I’m very polite to people. But if you truly push me too far, I have no problem with taking you down with me."

Rona was seething but still gave a slight nod.

Vera continued, "So don’t you ever get the idea of hitting me again, because I will fight back. And don’t even think about taking my things. Unless I’m the one throwing something away, no one can even dream of taking what’s mine!"

As she finished speaking, she pulled the scissors from Rona’s neck. Then, bringing them straight down, with a loud RIIIIP, she sliced the dress Rona was wearing right down the front.

Rona shrieked, "Ah! My dress!"

"It’s not your dress, it’s mine!" Vera corrected her. "The things my cousin gives me are for me and me alone! No one else is allowed to wear them! Since you’ve worn this dress today, I don’t want it anymore. But you can forget about ever wearing it again!"

With that, she took the scissors and cut the dress to shreds.

Rona’s heart ached for the dress, but she was too terrified by the viciousness coming from Vera to say anything. She just stared blankly.

A faint smile played on Vera’s lips as she said loudly, "Mother, you must be hungry, coming home so late. Why don’t I make you something to eat?"

"N-no, that’s not necessary!" Rona said through gritted teeth. "I’ll make something myself."

Vera looked at Rona. "Alright then. I’ll go upstairs to study."

Rona looked at Vera’s smiling face, her own expression a complicated mix of emotions. Vera then added a "kind" reminder, "Mother, your dress is ripped. You should probably go upstairs and change!"

Only then did Rona look down and see her dress. With the fabric torn open, her pale flesh was completely exposed in a most unseemly way.

She let out a yelp and scurried upstairs.

Watching Rona flee, Vera raised an eyebrow, her eyes full of contempt. ’Rona, for all the ways you tormented me in my last life, I will pay you back in full in this one. Just you wait and see!’

She paid Rona no more mind and went upstairs to get back to her studies. She had three exams the next day and had no more time to waste on Rona.

’She would not waste the second chance heaven had given her. She was going to live this life well!’

Grandma Dixon knew Rona’s character well. Worried that Vera would be at a disadvantage after everyone else left, she pricked up her ears, listening for any commotion next door.
