The Cheeky Junior Gal Becomes Too Cute When She Gets Attached to Me-Chapter 3Volume 1 .2 - A Polite But Sharp-Tongued Junior
A Polite But Sharp-Tongued Junior
“I thought the preparations for the next event would be starting soon.”
“Oh, that. It’s not a school event but part of our volunteer work, so we don’t need to gather all the officers… but it’s a big help having you, Kawana.”
“Leave it to me.”
I had intended to ask Kawana anyway.
Her coming to me shows she’s good at anticipating things. She’ll be fine as the next Student Council President.
It’s too early to think about it, and she might not like the idea, but…
Despite her standoffish appearance, she responds normally when spoken to, and she’s surprisingly cute when she tries to hide her joy at being praised.
If a junior ignored the Student Council President, they’d be upset, so I’m glad to have a junior who responds properly.
“Hmm… you two seem to get along well.”
Monaka, who had been silently watching the exchange between Kawana and me, muttered with dissatisfaction.
In fact, she had been glancing back and forth between Kawana and me for a while, looking like she wanted to say something, and it seemed she could no longer hold back.
Kawana also turned to look at Monaka in response to her words.
The atmosphere between the two was noticeably slightly tense.
“I’m not close friends with the president.”
“Oops, I was hoping you’d affirm that.”
Feeling unexpectedly betrayed, I couldn’t help but interject.
However, neither of them cracked a smile at my joke.
“President, bringing your girlfriend into the Student Council room…. don’t you think it seems a bit questionable even if you’re the Student Council President?”
Although the comment was directed at me, Kawana spoke while looking at Monaka.
“She’s not my girlfriend, though.”
“Eh, I really look like one, right? I knew it.”
“This is the part where you’re supposed to deny it. It just complicates the conversation.”
Somehow, the two of them were at odds with each other.
At this point, I felt like an outsider.
Interjecting in a conversation between women is like a kamikaze mission. Having a sister, I understood this all too well.
“Uh-huh, maybe I’ll go get some fresh air outside.”
“President.”
As I tried to escape with my overly exaggerated soliloquy, Kawana called out to me.
I hesitated and sat back down.
“Why is this girl here when she’s not even part of the executive committee?”
“This girl?”
“Ooba Monaka… This girl has no business being in the Student Council room!”
Kawana pointed sharply at Monaka as she spoke with a piercing tone.
“…Do you know her?”
Kawana’s tone made no attempt to hide her aversion.
Even if they were acquaintances, it didn’t seem like a normal reaction.
“We’re just in the same class. Well, I suppose you don’t remember me, though.”
“Eh!? No, I definitely remember you… You’re Kawana-san, right? Yeah. I feel like I’ve seen you before.”
Monaka’s eyes darted around as she gave a vague answer.
To say “I feel like I’ve seen you before” to a classmate meant almost the same as not remembering them at all.
It had been over half a year since they entered school. One would normally remember their classmates.
“Sigh. Well, I guess that’s the level of recognition you have for me.”
“No, I really do know you.”
“There’s no need to be so desperate. We’ve hardly ever talked.”
My association with Kawana wasn’t that long either.
We had only interacted a bit before the Student Council elections.
So, while I didn’t know her deeply, I thought it was not a trivial matter for Kawana to dislike someone to this extent.
Putting aside the fact that she’s always so prickly towards me and naturally has an aura that keeps people at a distance. She’s someone who, despite her cold exterior, speaks with a familiar warmth.
It was surprising to see such an overt display of disgust towards Monaka.
“If we’ve never talked, then you, Kawana-san, don’t know me either, right?”
Monaka retorted while visibly annoyed.
Kawana remained expressionless, seemingly absorbing the comment.
“I do know you. After all, you stand out.”
She then let her gaze wander from the top of Monaka’s head to her toes.
“Even if the school rules are lax, you’re taking things too far with your antics.”
“It’s not like I’m messing around… I just want to look cute, that’s all.”
“It’s not just about your appearance. Your attitude is unserious, and you’re disrespectful to Sensei. People like you, delinquents, look down on others, that’s why you act this way.”
“Don’t just assume that on your own!”
The tension in their voices escalated.

Who was in the wrong… I couldn’t judge.
One thing was clear: Monaka and Kawana were fatally incompatible.
The gyaru Monaka and the earnest Kawana were polar opposites. Especially Kawana, who seemed unable to accept Monaka.
Personally, I found my time with Monaka enjoyable, but that didn’t mean I thought Kawana was completely wrong.
I wished my junior would get along better, but human relationships aren’t that simple.
Still, I had to stop the fight in front of me.
“Well calm down, both of you.”
I moved to the center of the room, trying to calm them down.
I had to stand up because my original position was too close to Monaka.
Even if I didn’t intend it, it could look like I was taking her side.
I didn’t want to show favoritism to either side in this situation.
…Or maybe I was just being indecisive.
“Let’s not fight over me.”
I said it in a pretentious way while thinking of ‘Such helpless little kittens.’
“President, please be quiet.”
“Senpai, read the room.”
In an instant, sharp words flew at me from both of them.
I was on the verge of defeat.
…Strange. I thought I’d get a good laugh out of that.
But maybe, by presenting a common enemy—me—they had joined forces, just as planned.
“Ultimately, it’s your fault, President. Letting a delinquent like her help with the Student Council’s work…”
“Sorry. I’ve just had a lot of menial tasks to deal with.”
It’s true that Monaka has been a big help in many areas.
For simple tasks that just needed to be done in volume, having Monaka help out was very effective.
Efficiency improved with an extra person, and having someone to talk to was a relief.
