The Civil Servant's Job is to Raise The Furries!-Chapter 273 - 272: Miracle Medicine
The staff began distributing identification tags.
Ye Jie took a pink tag and immediately stuck a number label on it; Jia Yao held his blue tag in his hand, repeatedly checking it as if searching for a hidden button;
Su Zhining snatched away the tag glittering with gold and powder, making a particularly ostentatious display.
Yao Yingzhe took a green tag and casually stuffed it into his pants pocket.
Xu Ying had already given the bumblebees in the workshop a heads-up: they could only dance in place and couldn’t directly lead the guests to the flowers with nectar.
Xu Ying looked around at the four guests.
"Alright, everyone ready—" She took a delicate bee whistle from her waist, "Three, two, one!"
With a loud and clear whistle sound, more than twenty fluffy bumblebees flew to the center of the flower house, and the buzzing sound from their vibrating wings immediately filled the entire flower house.
These round little fellows hovered in the air, dancing in a figure-eight pattern.
"They’re so cute!" Ye Jie couldn’t help but exclaim softly, her eyes following a particularly plump bumblebee, "Look at that one, like a little fuzzball!"
She had already drawn a precise coordinate system in her notebook. Her sharp gaze tracked each bumblebee’s body direction, her lips slightly moving as she recorded her observations.
"Northeast direction, 45-degree angle, the third pot of purple tulips."
She suddenly whispered, her eyes lighting up, "That bee waggled its tail three times, it’s definitely a nectar flower!"
Like a secret agent on a mission, she stealthily approached the pot of tulips.
A large bumblebee, at that moment, couldn’t resist its urge to "work" after sensing the scent of nectar, flew with Ye Jie towards the tulips, circling around the flower’s stamens, making Ye Jie secretly happy. She held her breath and carefully inserted the pink identification tag at the edge of the pot.
Meanwhile, Jia Yao squatted at the south of the flower array, the screen light of his phone reflecting on his puzzled face. He had downloaded a so-called "Bee Language Translation App," but at the moment, the app was displaying a bunch of meaningless scribbles.
"What a useless software..." he muttered softly, his fingers swiftly swiping the screen, "Didn’t it say it could translate bee dance language?"
A bumblebee flew over his head, tracing a clear figure-eight in the air. Jia Yao immediately lifted his phone to record, but when he played it back, the slow-motion footage only revealed a blurry brown shadow.
"I can’t make this out at all!" he said, frustrated, scratching his head and deciding to change his approach. Mimicking Ye Jie, he started observing the bee dances with his naked eyes, but having not paid attention when Xu Ying spoke earlier, he was completely in the dark.
"What does flying to the left mean again? And what about turning around?"
Su Zhining gracefully moved towards the white flower cluster in the west.
She confidently observed two bumblebees performing a figure-eight dance, trying to follow their guidance.
"Ha, it must be that pot of white roses!" she said, striding confidently towards her target. But just as she was about to insert her tag, an unexpected event occurred—
The two bumblebees suddenly changed direction and flew straight towards her!
"Ah!" Su Zhining screamed, waving the tag around frantically, "Don’t come over here! You’ve got the wrong flower!"
Xu Ying chuckled mischievously from a short distance away and added, "Just a reminder, bumblebees are particularly sensitive to red. Guests wearing red clothes should be careful not to be mistaken for flowers."
Su Zhining’s face changed instantly. She looked down at her meticulously coordinated red cashmere shawl—the striking red stood out conspicuously among the roomful of flowers.
As if to confirm Xu Ying’s words, a fluffy bumblebee was already hovering above her head, its beady black eyes staring intently at her shawl, its furry front paws rubbing excitedly as if saying, "This big red flower must have a lot of nectar."
Su Zhining gasped, barely able to contain her surprise, yanked off the shawl and flung it onto Jia Yao: "Yours now!"
Jia Yao, bewildered, held the suddenly dropped luxurious cashmere scarf: "Huh?"
The persistent little fat bee indeed shifted its target, landing with a buzz on Jia Yao’s shoulder. What’s more, it even began to gently tap Jia Yao’s earring with its antennae—an earring adorned with a red ruby.
"Help, help!" Jia Yao froze like a statue, even breathing lightly, "Is it going to sting me?"
Xu Ying stifled her laughter as she explained, "Don’t worry, bumblebees are gentle creatures. It’s just puzzled why this ’flower’ isn’t producing nectar..."
Laughter erupted from the audience, and the camera captured Su Zhining’s sly expression of slipping away in the meantime.
In sharp contrast to the panic of the other three guests was Yao Yingzhe’s calm composure. This seasoned veteran did not rush around placing tags everywhere but examined each pot carefully with a magnifying glass.
"Look here." He pointed to the petal of an African daisy, speaking to the accompanying cameraman, "These tiny U-shaped bite marks are unique evidence of a bumblebee’s feeding. Only flowers that have truly been fed on will have such marks."
[Teacher Yao loves to lecture, but his knowledge base is indisputable!]
[In the second episode, Teacher Yao seems much more normal. It appears Little Xu Station Chief’s guidance was effective, directly curing Teacher Yao’s quirks.]
The program switched to the magnifying glass perspective.
The clear bite marks on the petals matched perfectly with a bumblebee’s mouthparts, with tiny pollen grains surrounding them.
Yao Yingzhe smiled and steadily placed a green identification tag in the pot before continuing his scientific investigation.
As time went on, the competition intensified: Ye Jie accurately tagged seven pots, but a mischievous bumblebee took an interest in her hairpin, snatching it up while she wasn’t paying attention.
Ye Jie chased the bee across half the stage, finally trading a piece of candy to retrieve her hairpin.
Jia Yao eventually gave up on technology and started imitating Ye Jie by taking notes. However, his handwriting was so messy that even he couldn’t read it, leaving him to rely on luck with random guesses.
Using scientific methods, Yao Yingzhe caught up in the number of tags placed, right behind Ye Jie.
He even found the time to explain bumblebee ecological habits to the other guests: "I used to keep bees for a while, so I’m quite familiar with these creatures. Only female bumblebees have stingers; male bees don’t, so they can’t sting people."
"A bumblebee’s stinger has no barbs, so it won’t detach after stinging, allowing them to sting over and over again!"
Su Zhining shivered at the thought, not daring to approach for a closer look, randomly planting her nectar identification tags into several pots to muddle through.
Just as the competition was nearing its end, an unexpected intruder brought even more chaos to the scene—a Tibetan fox, seemingly from nowhere, suddenly sprang onto the stage and snatched Jia Yao’s blue identification tag from the ground.
"My tag!" Jia Yao exclaimed, but even more surprisingly, several bumblebees seemed to take this as a new game, chasing the Tibetan fox around the stage.
The Tibetan fox agilely weaved between the flower pots, with the bumblebees hot on its trail.
The fox, originally there to cause mischief, looked exasperated: [Stop chasing me, I’m not interested in you!]
[Please, stop bothering me! I don’t make friends with little bugs, we don’t speak the same language!]
At this moment, the door of the wooden house swung open.
Everyone was surprised to see Lu Jinyu entering.
"Wow, Lu Jinyu, how did you recover so fast!"
"What kind of miracle medicine did Little Xu Station Chief give you?"
