Chapter 65: 65 - "Have more faith in me"

"I’m sorry about the girls, young master Qingyi... they’re a bit... eccentric," Qin Yueli apologized as she sat next to Qingyi, watching the priestesses train.

Strangely, they seemed even more excited now that Qingyi was staying with them.

"They were taken in by master when they were still very young. Elize and I failed to teach them common sense...." Yueli’s eyes swept over Qingyi’s body.

"It’s okay, they’re cute," Qingyi replied with a low laugh.

And it wasn’t as if Yueli or Elize were great sources of common sense either, far from it.

The handsome young man kept a gentle smile on his lips, his clothes disheveled by hugs and tugs, even marked with lipstick.

That wasn’t exactly common treatment in a closed and conservative society, but who was he to judge them?

He was blessed with transcendental beauty and possessed a system that made him even more irresistible, especially to lower-level cultivators who were more susceptible to the lust system.

"Cute?" Yueli’s lips twitched as she hugged her own legs, her head resting lazily on her arms.

Her beautiful blue eyes studied Qingyi with interest.

"Ah... I mean, they’re... well..." Qingyi was speechless.

How on earth could he explain himself?

"Hahaha, that’s okay, it’s true, they’re cute..." Yueli laughed, her sweet, soft voice echoing through the temple and briefly catching the girls’ attention.

But her expression soon turned serious and her laughter died down.

"Master always told me to keep you away from the horrors of this world, that one day a hero would come to take the spirit of lightning and lead our temple to the top of the world again."

"I wonder where this hero is..."

Hearing those words, Qingyi’s face also lost its smile.

A lightning spirit linked to a powerful sword that was once an artifact of the heavenly sky.

Honestly, that was perfect for him.

There were three main types of weapon.

The first were ordinary weapons, made of metals of different strengths and resistances.

Then came spirit swords, such as the Thunderclouds sword.

These were weapons made of spiritual materials that carried unique elements and could increase the power of a specific type of Qi by a wide margin.

And then there was the third type.

These were also spirit swords, but with one simple difference: they had their own egos.

Unlike ordinary and spiritual swords, a cultivator needed to dominate a sword with an ego and be accepted by it.

Failure would often result in death.

’System... what is the cheapest spiritual sword with an ego that I could buy?’ Qingyi asked mentally, his heart sinking at the sight of the prices.

It was simply absurd.

An common grade sword cost thousands of lust points.

"Miss Yueli... where is this sword?" He asked, feeling the handle of the borrowed sword in his hands.

It was a good blade, and he could easily buy one suitable for his level with the amount of lust points he had.

But wanting more isn’t a sin, is it?

"Are you thinking of trying to be accepted by it?"

"Yes," he nodded.

The blue-haired beauty shuddered at his answer.

"Qingyi..." His lips opened, a soft tremor running through his voice. "My master was killed trying to be accepted, and not just her. Every year, thousands die trying to be accepted by that sword."

She paused for a brief moment and her eyes focused on the ground, avoiding Qingyi’s intense gaze.

Why did he always have to look at her like that? Her cheeks were overcome by a faint blush.

"You’ve been very good to me and my sisters. They seem to really like having you here, I don’t want you to die like that... the way the master died..."

"Ah..." Qingyi exhaled, drawing his sword as he stood up, the silver steel sliding into the scabbard with a sharp hiss.

"What are you doing?"

"Why don’t we train a bit more? I’ve just had a breakthrough and I wanted to test out some of my new power," Qingyi interrupted her.

"A breakthrough?" Yueli stood up in surprise.

Qingyi didn’t seem to be close to a breakthrough.

Only now did she realize that no matter how much she focused her senses; she couldn’t sense his cultivation.

She hesitated for a brief moment, but in the end just shook her head, following him to the middle of the courtyard.

She felt a slight discomfort in her chest at Qingyi’s lack of response about trying to be accepted by the lightning spirit.

But she quickly pushed it aside. Thinking too much wouldn’t solve the problem.

Yueli moved her delicate hands, grasping the scabbard before sliding her silvery blade out.

Her gaze swept over her sisters, who quickly stopped their training, surrounding them with curiosity.

"Let’s get out of the courtyard, it’s dangerous," Elize grabbed the girls’ shoulders, gently pulling them away, her beautiful purple eyes studying Qingyi with concern.

She had heard their conversation at a glance and couldn’t help but feel her chest tremble.

Her master was at the Golden Core realm and still ended up dead.

How could Qingyi stand a chance?

With the entire central courtyard cleared for them, Yueli finally released her aura.

Thunderous lightning streaked across her silver blade, her beautiful blue eyes shining brightly.

"Are you really fully recovered?" she asked.

She had seen Qingyi kill dozens of men in a minute, chopping off the hands of a fourth-stage Foundation Realm cultivator as if he were a simple farmer.

She knew well that there was no point in holding back if he had already fully recovered.

"Yes," Qingyi nodded, releasing his own Foundation Realm aura. "I’ll give you the first move," he smiled, not thinking it would take more than that.

Yueli thanked him, her eyes becoming sharp as the ground beneath her feet shook.

In a split second, she cut the distance between them, her sword tearing through the air and scattering sparks of lightning.

Qingyi only raised his sword slightly, parrying Yueli’s.

A bang echoed, and their surroundings shook.

High-pitched screams reached his ears as the girls’ dresses were swept away by the shockwave of the collision.

And then, a sword flew out.

"H-how?" Yueli shuddered, looking down at her delicate, trembling hands.

She could feel that Qingyi had barely used a fraction of his Qi, yet it was as if he had hit an impassable barrier...

Her eyes rose slightly, meeting his.

"Have more faith in me," he smiled, moving his right hand and stroking her head.

"Uh?" Yueli froze, vibrant red spreading across her cheeks.

"Oh..." Qingyi quickly withdrew his hand.

He forgot that Yueli was a thirty five year old woman.
