Chapter 1148: Stamp Collection

Beginner’s Luck sounded like a passive Talent, but it was an active one. When the Talent was activated, the user would be granted luck for a short time at the price of some of their abilities, knowledge, and experience reverting to a blank state, making them a literal beginner.

In War Tiger’s words, Beginner’s Luck was of the same breed as Lucky, mysterious and unpredictable.

Chen Ying’s fifth Talent was Time Disturbance, serial number 179, Time-Space-type.

In a short distance, the Talent could confuse the target’s perception of the passage of time and other perceptions, but with a low chance of success.

Chen Ying’s Talents are a mess of different things, difficult to integrate. But—

Gao Yang came to a belated conclusion: Chen Ying was determined to be one of Nine Frost’s merging partners. The various Talents could be unexpectedly effective when shared through Three Heads Six Arms.

—Muzitu (Experience Thief, Object Duplicate, Feng Shui) gave his Talents to Adept Horse (Healing, Light, Jump, Deception).

Object Duplicate, serial number 128, Support-type. It could duplicate any object once for a short time with an effectiveness of 30% to 60%. The more complex the object, the greater the failure rate. With a special item, only its appearance would be duplicated, not the essence.

Feng Shui, serial number 133, Knowledge-type. It granted mastery over feng shui so that the user could set up formation beforehand, contributing to a siege battle or an ambush.

Deception, serial number 158, Knowledge-type. It allowed the user to deceive the target in speech, action, visual, or concept. Once it succeeded, damage would be done to the target, the degree of which depended on the deception and how much the target fell for it. A grand deception, if pulled off perfectly, could even kill the target.

Gao Yang’s eyes glinted. At some point, Adept Horse had gone from a typical healer to a well-rounded fighter who could support, attack, and heal. He put aside his straying thoughts and continued with the list.

—Ting Ting (Air Man, Listener, Cheating) gave her Talents to Liao Liao (Aptitude, Insects King, Follow Heart, God of Firearms, God of Archery, Disorientation, Intangibility, Keen Hearing, Healthy).

Listener, serial number 182, Psyche-type. The Talent user’s mere presence encouraged others to spill their secrets. It was a perfect ability for intelligence work.

Cheating, serial number 178, Miracle-type. Provided enough time, the Talent user would be able to find a loophole in any trap, crisis, or scheme, thus overcoming it or gaining an unexpected edge; however, there was a small chance that things could get worse and more dangerous.

Liao Liao had acquired her ninth Talent, Healthy, serial number 141, Life-type. It wasn’t that useful a Talent when doomsday was on the horizon, but it was a good ability for a peaceful time. As long as the Talent user didn’t seek self-destruction, they would never be ill.

Gao Yang chuckled. “Congratulation, Liao Liao. You now have twelve Talents, putting you at the top of the ranking.”

“Oh, no.” Liao Liao waved her hands in denial. “Mine are odds and ends unfit for a grand occasion, no match for your proper armory.”

“Why did you choose Ting Ting’s Talents?” Qing Ling asked. “You had better options.”

“Why?” Gao Yang joked. “Because she’s afraid of dying, and Air Man would help her survive.”

Liao Liao laughed awkwardly. “Although that’s part of the reason, it hurts a little that you see me in such a light, Captain.”

“Oh, so there’s another reason?” Gao Yang said with feigned surprise.

Liao Liao chuckled bashfully. “I was after Cheating.”

“Don’t get it.” Qing Ling did find Cheating special, but not terribly useful in a real battle.

“Sister Qing, it’s a Miracle-type Talent! And it’s common knowledge that all Miracle-type Talents are OP cheats!” Liao Liao shook her fist for emphasis. “Who can say no to having a Miracle-type Talent? If only for good fortune?”

“So you’re collecting stamps.” Gao Yang had actually figured out Liao Liao’s true intention, but he joked instead of exposing her.

“Guilty as charged,” Liao Liao played along, “I’m hoping to collect Talents from all twelve Rune-types!”

Gao Yang and Qing Ling went back to the list.

—Tofu (Divination, Phantom) gave her Talents to Hong Xiaoxiao (Gamer, Invisibility, Telekinesis, Muscles).

Gao Yang’s gaze lingered on the line. Reading it three times, he sighed silently.

Divination, serial number 126, Knowledge-type. It forecasted another’s fortune with an accuracy of 70%, but the Talent user couldn’t tell their own fortune.

Tofu only acquired Phantom a while ago, a Talent once belonging to Zhong He.

And Hong Xiaoxiao had only comprehended Muscles last week, which had been Yellow Lotus’s Talent.

“Hong Xiaoxiao asked for Tofu’s Talents,” Liao Liao said. “Sister Xia and I discussed it before approving it.”

“Reasons being?” Gao Yang asked.

Liao Liao straightened her back unconsciously and said in a serious tone, “We’re most lacking in healers, and they are the weaker ones. Thus, we want to improve the survivability of our healers first and try to have one healer on each unit, minimizing our casualties.”

Gao Yang found nothing disagreeable about that. He glanced at Qing Ling.

Qing Ling thought for a moment. “Muscles can greatly improve Hong Xiaoxiao’s physique. Combined with Phantom and Invisibility, she will be strong.”

“Yeah, she can be a fighter, an assassin, and a healer bringing her companions back. It’s an epic level up,” Liao Liao said with renewed confidence when the two leaders voiced their approval.

Gao Yang still had concerns. “Hong Xiaoxiao lacks experience in real fights.”

“Don’t worry,” Liao Liao said. “Uncle Tiger took her in as a disciple and has been training her like hell.”

“How does that go?” Gao Yang asked.

“Pretty good.” Liao Liao smirked while rubbing her chin. “She always returns covered in injuries and seeks me out in the dorm to help patch her up. Sometimes, she wakes up at midnight and starts sobbing.”

Gao Yang imagined that and felt much more at ease.

—Crimson Bee (Bee Venom, Spider Venom, Gravity) gave his Talent to Nainai (Scale, Shapeshifter, Gale, Dancer).

Dancer, serial number 153, Buff-type.

It granted mastery over all dances, which could be incorporated into fights to enhance one’s explosive power, agility, and mental fortitude.

And the Talent user would be more elegant and agile in their everyday life. The Talent might as well be tailor-made for Nainai. She got exactly what she wanted.

Remembering something, Gao Yang asked, “Didn’t Crimson Bee plan to stay? Why did he change his mind?”
