The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1155: Inexperienced
Chapter 1155: Inexperienced
Nine Frost stopped Chen Ying from taking the photo. He put on an enchanted glove before doing it in her stead. It was a two-shot of two high school students. They looked close. The skinny boy had black frame glasses on his youthful face. It was Sun Hu from a few years ago. Beside him was a pretty girl, her bright black eyes with slight under-eye bags completing the cute look.

One Stone started, looking between the photo and Old Tang. “This girl...is Old Tang?”
“Yeah.” Sun Hu held his head with both hands, eyes reddening in regret. “She’s Tang Xiaocong. She turned herself into an NPC and couldn’t change back.”
They fell silent.
Sun Hu yanked at his hair. “I tried to bring her back by asking her difficult questions so that her facade would crack, but it never worked. She has turned into Old Tang the psychiatric patient. I’m going to lose my mind soon.”
“That can happen?” Chen Ying turned to Nine Frost.
“I’ve never seen something like this,” Nine Frost said, “But Miracle-type Talents are all strange in their own way.”
Suddenly, Nine Frost turned to Hong Xiaoxiao, an idea occurring to him.
Hong Xiaoxiao had the same thought. “Why don’t I try Gamer?”
Gamer could reset a target to a few more minutes ago—in theory, damage done to the target before the time frame couldn’t be reset, but a change imposed by a Miracle-type Talent should be different. It would be reset by Gamer too as a “bug”.
Hong Xiaoxiao went up to Old Tang with a Black Gold hairpin.
Old Tang stiffened. “What...what are you doing?”
“Don’t be scared, Old Tang,” Sun Hu reassured. “This is a cutting-edge therapy for mental illnesses. Once you have the treatment, you will be discharged in the afternoon.”
“Bullshit!” Old Tang cowered in the corner of the room. “Don’t-don’t come any closer, or I’m going to scream—”
“Don’t worry. I’m just going to put this hairpin on you.”
Hong Xiaoxiao reached out to Old Tang’s head, but changed her mind seeing his thin hair. Instead, she put the hairpin on his collar.
A strange energy enveloped Old Tang. He felt light and a little dizzy.
Old Tang slowly relaxed, rambling, “Young Sun, I feel like...I feel like my consciousness is going to escape from this prison... I’m going back. I’m becoming free...”
“Time Reset.”
Hong Xiaoxiao splayed her hands. A holy white light flickered and washed over the room.
Mouth agape, Sun Hu watched as Old Tang “melted” into a clump of white energy and then to countless strands of light, connected to Hong Xiaoxiao’s ten fingers. Under her manipulation, the strands weaved into a glowing cacoon.
Thirty seconds later, the cocoon morphed into a figure, and the light dimmed. The same patient gown emerged, but it loosely draped on a petite girl with fair skin rather than Old Tang. She was unconscious.
“Tang Xiaocong!” Sun Hu cried out. “Finally! She’s finally back! She’s really back!”
“She will wake up in two minutes,” One Stone said with a smile. “And keep your voice down.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry...” Sun Hu hurriedly lowered his voice, rambling in hysterics. “I’m-I’m so happy. So happy.”
Soon, Tang Xiaocong regained consciousness. She slowly opened her eyes and spoke in an unsteady voice, “Where...am I...?”
“The Third Hospital.” Sun Hu helped her up, feeling overwhelmed. “President Ear, remember me?[1]”
The nickname awakened her memory. She looked at the familiar face in a daze. “Monkey[2], why are you...older?”
Sun Hu almost burst into tears at the nickname. “President Ear, I’ve grown. I’m twenty-five years old. How are you still eighteen?”
“I...” Tang Xiaocong pressed a hand to her forehead, then suddenly remembered everything with wide eyes. “Oh, NPC! I turned myself into a mentally ill person...”
Sun Hu raised his voice, “What kind of garbage Talent is that? You can’t change yourself back?!”
“Um...haha...” Tang Xiaocong laughed weakly, embarrassed. “I can, but after a preset time. I was going to turn myself for seven days to see how effective it was, but I made a mistake and made it seven years instead...”
Sun Hu stared at her, tears of joy getting stuck in his eyes before they could fall. The air stilled for a moment.
“Do you have holes in your brain, Tang Xiaocong?! How could you be that careless?!”
“The Talent reached level 3 after only a few uses. I had no experience in it and accidentally pushed it too far.” Tang Xiaocong laughed carelessly. “My fault, my fault.”
“Why are you laughing?! Do you know how difficult it was for me to act chummy with a balding middle-aged psychiatric patient every day for seven years? I considered abandoning you so many times!”
“Sorry.” Tang Xiaocong felt a little guilty. She made a gesture with a thumb and a forefinger. “I do remember a little about my time as Old Tang, so...your effort wasn’t completely wasted.”
Sun Hu’s anger evaporated after the yelling, and he softened seeing her smile. Plopping himself on the bed, he turned away and wiped his tears. “As long as you’re back. We’ve finally met a good organization, President Ear. We no longer have to keep running. We can live a peaceful life...”
“Um, speaking of which,” One Stone chuckled wryly, “It won’t be peaceful for long.”

2. His nickname is 猢狲 (hu-sun), pronounced the same as his name, but flipped. It means macaque, a genus of monkeys. ☜
