Chapter 210: Friendly Fire

ROOOOAR!

ROOOAR!

GROOWL!

The wyverns flew toward the walls like a barrage of bullets, their roars and growls shaking the world with indescribable fury.

The guards stared at them in awe. They had never thought that something like that would ever happen.

The prison was protected by wyverns on all four sides. There was a big distance between each side, so the wyverns of the other three sides were clueless about what was happening here.

Still, the wyverns of only one side were enough to shake the guards to the core.

They surpassed the guards in numbers and overall strength. Some guards could easily handle up to five wyverns, but others couldn’t even handle one.

Every single wyvern was Rank 3!

Not to mention, now that the wyverns left their positions, the uncleared beast wave was also added to them.

"I really want to kill a few of them. What a shame."

Dante, with the fate of Amanda, sighed in frustration. They had a higher Spirit value than what he had. Using Greed, he could absorb their spirits.

Slash!

But before he could do anything, a blazing axe chopped his arm vertically before returning to its holder.

That guard was the first to react, holding a small axe that was attached to a chain, allowing him to pull the axe back.

Swish!

The guard swung the axe once more, aiming for Amanda’s neck.

And that was his biggest mistake.

In his eyes, the axe simply passed through Amanda’s neck, as if passing through smoke.

’What—!’

Before he could complete his thought, he felt a hand touching his leg.

Before he could register the energy that invaded his body—

BANG! BANG! BANG!

—A barrage of bullets pierced him and Dante’s body, filling them with countless holes.

The guards shot them together!

They were trained not to hesitate to kill their allies if they were to be held hostage unless absolutely necessary. If there was a chance that more deaths would occur, they had to swallow their morals and ignore their friends.

BANG—BAM!

After shooting Dante and the axe guard, they shot the giant who was mutating earlier with both guns and magical spells.

The only thing Dante could do was conjure dozens of chaos grenades before falling motionless.

His strong body and high vitality were easily penetrated. He did what he could, and that was the end of his day.

"EVERYONE GO BACK!"

"MAKE A DISTANCE WITH THE CORPSES AND FOCUS ON THE WYVERNS."

"WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF DEFENSIVE MECHANISMS! DON’T PANIC!"

"WE MUST RE-TAME THE WYVERNS! DON’T KILL THEM. ATTACK ONLY THE ABYSSAL BEASTS!"

The guards shouted to each other, exchanging different orders as they made a big distance between themselves and Dante. They saw the grenades, so a few of them made some barriers that covered the grenades to decrease their potential danger.

CRACK!

Suddenly, an invisible barrier stopped the wyverns from breaking into the walls, but it was already starting to shatter, though it was extremely slow in breaking.

’They should at least have some trouble fixing that.’ Dante thought, his heartbeat slowing significantly with every passing second as the world slowed around him.

’A few random grenades, two guards killed, a small problem with the wyverns protecting the place, and a nice amount of wasted resources to fix all that. Not bad at all.’

Smiling in satisfaction, Dante observed the place for one last time, memorizing as much as he could.

The structure of the walls, the area between the main building and the walls, the number of guards, the abilities of the guards, and even the overall number of wyverns on that side.

Everything was stored in his head.

The grenades glowed brightly, blinding Dante in the process, and what came next was an ear-splitting sound.

However, that sound lasted only one second before returning to silence.

And the blinding light disappeared as well, returning the world to a familiar darkness.

When Dante opened his eyes again, he had a wide smile on his face. He was in his cell, chained and suppressed by a collar, with four spears piercing his limbs.

His access to most of his energies vanished immediately, and his strength decreased significantly.

However... he was fine.

No chopped arm, no body filled with holes, no grenades exploding behind him. Everything was completely fine.

So... what about Amanda?

She had a chopped arm, a body filled with holes, and some grenades had just exploded in front of her.

Because of Dante, death was her new fate.

Everything that happened to him while possessing the fate of someone else would simply be given to them.

And Dante? Even his mana and spiritual energy had returned. The one who had a loss of their mana and spiritual energy was Amanda now.

Nothing made sense, and that was how stealing someone’s fate worked.

’Man, I love this ability.’ Dante barely suppressed a chuckle while looking at a familiar person in the cell.

She was a woman with similar height to him. She had dark-green hair and a pair of emerald-green eyes. But they weren’t ordinary eyes.

She had slit eyes. The pupils were slit like a dragon, but they were thinner, more like a snake than a dragon.

And she also had a layer of scales covering her whole pale body, visible in some parts around her shoulders and neck, but with the same color as her skin in others.

They looked no different from dragon scales at first glance, but Dante, who had dragon scales himself, saw that her scales looked smoother.

"So you did it again, and it’s outside the main building this time." The snake woman hissed with disdain: "We prepared ourselves here for anyone to turn crazy suddenly, but you decided to show us the real capabilities of your range. I’m really impressed."

Dante frowned at her words: "Didn’t I tell you many times that I did nothing? Do you really believe that I went to a random guard and corrupted them in less than a second?! Even if I could, last month, the victim was a master! Unless that master has a really weak mind, someone like me can never corrupt him like that."

"Maybe someone out there, like a second anomaly, uses a strange ability at the moment my collar breaks to make you focus on me. Didn’t you think of that?"

The snake woman glared at Dante sharply for a long moment before leaving. She couldn’t waste more time with him.

She had a small problem with the wyverns, which she had to solve quickly.

Dante didn’t say a single lie, or at least that was what her eyes saw. Yet her instincts screamed the opposite. Somehow, she knew that Dante lied.

She didn’t understand how he did it, but she was almost certain it was him.

She was also certain that he had hidden his true runes when they observed them by force. There was no way that the things they had seen were everything about him.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t do anything about him for now. She was completely chained by that prediction.

The woman gritted her teeth: ’Just wait until Lord Valor or any Rank 4 visit the prison. I’ll make you sure you will die brutally.’

’Just wait.’
