Chapter 211: Too Kind

"BAHAHAHA!"

In the first underground floor, Kael laughed loudly while watching Braham and Anastasia. He ate some blue flowers that tasted like popcorn, drawing jealousy from the prisoners around him.

As usual, he decided to waste his points on food instead of something that was actually useful.

"YOU WILL HAVE TO PASS THROUGH MY DEAD BODY FIRST!" Spreading his arms, Braham blocked Anastasia’s path, staring at her with sharp eyes.

"He really isn’t harmful! I’m not losing anything from this small mission." Anastasia tried to convince him, but judging by his expression, he didn’t seem convinced.

She tried to pass through him to a specific guard to accept the mission, but Braham moved alongside her to keep blocking her path.

"It’s only a few minutes!"

"No means no." Braham shook his head stubbornly. She had snuck behind his back twice, and he wasn’t ready to let her go for a third time.

Anastasia wanted to argue and tell him that Dante truly wasn’t harmful, but doing that would expose one of her biggest secrets.

Apparently, Charis had noticed what Dante had been doing with Anastasia’s Wheel of Luck. And according to her, Dante caused no harm.

"I don’t know how, but he’s able to affect your luck even with the collar. That confirms that he’s truly a dangerous threat and he’s hiding his true abilities. However, what he did was absorb some of your misfortune into himself."

"I can’t see the luck of the others, but at least for you, he actually helped you. I don’t know the reason, though." That was what Charis told her in Dante’s cell before leaving, but she hid the strange coin that Dante had tossed.

Because of that, Anastasia knew that Dante was truly doing something to the guards for them to avoid him, but he didn’t do the same to her.

That was enough for her to continue taking the job. She was basically losing nothing!

"Braham, can you just trust me this time?" Anastasia pleaded once again: "I promise, I’ll be okay. Do you think I’d let someone harm me and keep approaching him? Maybe my bloodline is charity, but I’m not too desperate to help all people. I can sense his intentions, and I’m certain he means no harm at all."

Braham rolled his eyes. He had a counter, but he didn’t want to use it.

’Even the saintesses couldn’t see the bad intentions of the traitor!’

Anastasia added immediately: "Also, he told me how he was caught. Braham, he was helping the Holy Kingdom! He really made Valor upset, and he’s probably the reason why Valor has never visited the prison ever since even when he sent me here."

"Do you want me to repay what he did by ignoring him like that?"

Braham covered his face in frustration: "I don’t know what he told you, but the Holy Kingdom would never work with black magic users. The only explanation is that he did it secretly, and he likely did it for other reasons."

"If he truly helped the Holy Kingdom, then there is a high chance that he didn’t do it for the Holy Kingdom. Maybe he had another goal and that goal happened to help our kingdom."

Anastasia gritted her teeth: "And the outcome is still the same, isn’t it?! Won’t you thank someone for saving your carriage from a beast only because his goal was hunting it?"

Braham kept spreading his arms, ignoring her example.

After a few seconds of silence, Anastasia sighed and sat on the ground, resting her head on her hand.

"..."

Braham stared at her with a puzzled face, but after a moment, the realization struck him: "No... you aren’t really going to do it, right?"

Anastasia smiled: "You will eventually have to accept a mission, and the same thing applies to me. If you move away, I’ll be able to take the mission I want and go back to my cell. If you don’t, we both will get punished. Even Kael will be punished."

"Ayo! Don’t bring me into your conflict!" Kael shouted from a distance, crunching another flower: "I’m just watching the show. Keep fighting please—I’m really enjoying this."

Braham gave Kael a sharp glare before returning his gaze to Anastasia: "Ana, you realize that you’re endangering your life over a few points, right? Don’t tell me you just felt bad for him! I feel bad too, I don’t like seeing a kid younger than you under that condition, but I accept that he is dangerous!"

"Ana, please listen to me and ignore your stupid nature. You don’t have to always be selfless like a fool. This isn’t your problem."

Anastasia didn’t feel upset at his words, she understood his point completely, but what made her upset was the fact that a part of her agreed with him.

’It’s that stupid bloodline affecting my mind.’ Ana gritted her teeth and shook her head.

"Then we are both going to be punished. We don’t have a lot of time before the guards start trying to force us."

Braham bit his lower lip. His head was already screaming at him to move.

The only thing he could do to her was to convince her by words. If she was even touched by a single whip because of him, he would never forgive himself.

"Damnit!" Braham finally lowered his arms and scratched his head violently: "You really aren’t going to listen, huh? I’ll have a long discussion with you after coming back from the mines. If we ever leave this cursed place, I’ll make sure to talk with the king about using a belt to raise children, because you clearly needed it!"

With heavy steps, Braham went to Kael and dragged him by his arm to his closet: "Stop eating like a pig and just move. I really want to kill something right now!" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Kael casually swallowed the rest of the flowers and wiped his mouth: "Mhm... Yes, me too. I’m also thinking of saving points to pay for one night with a lust demo—"

"Just SHUT UP!"

Anastasia observed them silently as they wore their outfits and went to the surface, giving her only a quick glance.

"Finally..." Anastasia sighed and went to the guard to accept the mission, which was supposed to start in a few hours.

After doing that, she returned to her cell and lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling to pass time.

’Charis... do you think I made the wrong decision? Should I just ignore that boy?’ Anastasia asked inwardly: ’I want to say that he doesn’t seem to be affected by loneliness... but he’s literally talking to himself aloud.’

’If not for you, I’d have likely ended up like him, with no one to talk with other than myself. Is it bad that I want to help him with some words instead of spending most of my time in this empty cell?’

Charis appeared behind Anastasia’s head and patted her head with her wing: "Ignore what the others say. You don’t need their understanding if you feel good for doing it. Also, you’re not harming yourself. If anything, the boy actually helped you."

"Unfortunately, revealing the truth to Braham here would endanger you and the boy. You’ll have to reveal me, and you’ll end up revealing his ability. I don’t even want to imagine the consequences."

"I’m sorry, but... you’ll have to endure that misunderstanding for now."

Anastasia nodded and closed her eyes, resting for some time until they gave her the food.

’Yeah, nothing bad is going to happen because of some talking.’

’Even if something happens... it won’t be worse than the bloodlines clashing in my body.’

’If I die eventually because of that... I don’t want to die knowing that I could have helped some people and ignored them.’
