Chapter 172: Chapter 143:

"No," Lan Tian shook her head, "I got on the train quite late, it didn’t depart until almost the afternoon."

Comparing her foot journey with the train travel time, she estimated a rough arrival time.

After checking carefully several times and ensuring Lan Tian was alright, Granny Lin finally let go. Eldest Daughter-in-law Lin poured a cup of tea for Lan Tian.

Lan Tian took it and said thanks, "Thank you, Auntie."

Eldest Daughter-in-law Lin smiled naively and went about with her work. Granny Lin was very pleased with how her eldest daughter-in-law handled things. She turned around to help in the kitchen and asked Lan Tian, "What would you like to eat? Tell me, I’ll make it for you. Oh right, your grandpa is back, he’s upstairs at the teahouse."

"Grandpa is back?" Lan Tian was slightly stunned. Why did he suddenly return? There had been no prior indication. Could Beijing have let him come back? Could it be that his illness has improved?

"Yes, he came back before the New Year," while thinking, Granny Lin continued, "He suddenly returned on New Year’s Eve, and nobody at home knew he was coming back. He came back alone while the second young master stayed in Beijing to celebrate the New Year. Mr. Mo had not mentioned about coming back for the New Year before. When we saw him, we even thought we were seeing things."

Lan Tian made a sound of acknowledgment and nodded thoughtfully without saying anything. Thinking Lan Tian was tired from the train ride, Granny Lin told her to go rest in her room.

"You must be tired, go and sleep in the room for a bit, I’ll call you when it’s time to eat."

Lan Tian was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but then she suddenly remembered that when she had entered the house, her hands were empty; the gifts she brought were still in her Sleeve Universe and she hadn’t taken them out yet. She needed to find an excuse to go out and retrieve them.

Originally, Lan Tian planned to come back on her own without anyone picking her up. She thought it would be more convenient to take out the gifts at the doorstep of her house. She didn’t expect Granny Lin to send Lin Guofu to pick her up.

Among the Lin family, the three grandsons, Lin Guofu had the simplest mind, lacking any cunning thoughts, so Lan Tian dragged Lin Guofu out with her.

Following Lan Tian, Lin Guofu asked curiously, "Where are we going? It’s almost time for dinner."

"I hid some of the stuff I brought because it was too much to carry. It’s hidden outside. Come with me to get it back, I’m afraid if it’s left too long, someone might discover and take it. Then my journey here would have been for nothing." Lan Tian said casually, her expression natural, showing no signs of lying.

"..." Lin Guofu stared at her speechlessly, not knowing quite what to say to her. With people everywhere outside, what would she do if someone indeed saw and took the items away?

"Why didn’t you just call for a car to bring it over? How could you be so silly." Lin Guofu couldn’t help but blurt out after holding it in for a while.

Lan Tian slapped her forehead, appearing annoyed and then suddenly looked as if she had an epiphany, "Brother Lin, you’re absolutely right. I should’ve just called for a car. How could I not think of that, so stupid of me. You’re the clever one, Brother Lin." Lan Tian looked at him with admiration.

Lin Guofu gave Lan Tian a sidelong glance, twisting his mouth but said nothing, thinking she wasn’t completely foolish after all. Let it be, he thought; he didn’t want to make her feel even more foolish.

Lan Tian took a glance at him and seeing his good mood, she hid the smile in her eyes.

The two of them did not drive out; Lan Tian led him around in twists and turns until they reached a dead end in an alley, then she stopped, "You stand guard here to make sure nobody comes over, I’ll go get the stuff."

Lin Guofu felt something was off, but since Lan Tian asked him to stand guard, he stood there obediently without further question. Lan Tian liked that he was a bit ’slow’, which is why she called him out; had it been Lin Guohao or Lin Guoqiang, they would not have been so easy to deceive.

Lan Tian went to the corner, flipped her hand, and several sacks appeared on the ground. Then she waved for him to come over, "Brother Lin, come quick, the stuff is still here, let’s bring it back."

Lin Guofu walked over and stared at the several sacks on the ground, stunned - with so much stuff, how could the two of them carry it back? He regretted not having driven here. He looked up to see Lan Tian with two sacks in her left hand and another two in her right, briskly walking as if carrying four empty sacks without a hint of struggle. Lin Guofu, on the other hand, was panting from carrying just two sacks. Back at home, he slumped into a chair, his legs trembling.

Lan Tian brought the four sacks straight into the kitchen. Lin Guohao saw his brother’s pathetic state and shook his head, "You can’t even outdo a girl, oh you..."

Lin Guofu rolled his eyes, not bothering to pay him any attention, but suddenly, perhaps thinking of something, he said, "Big brother, can you help take these two sacks to the kitchen?"

Thinking he could show him up, he was sure it would be his brother’s turn to embarrass himself. He really was a good brother, ready to endure hardships together!

Lin Guohao, not thinking much of it, went over, grabbed a sack in each hand, only to find they wouldn’t budge. His face turned pale, he glared at Lin Guofu, took a deep breath, mustered all his strength to grasp them, and wobbled into the kitchen, looking as if he was staggering drunk. Lin Guofu watched from behind as his big brother made a fool of himself, stifling a chuckle.

After washing up quickly, Lan Tian went to the teahouse. Old Mr. Mo was still inside reading a book. Lan Tian knocked on the door; there was no response from inside. She knocked again, still no response. She pushed the door open and saw Mr. Mo deeply engrossed in reading, frowning in thought.

"Grandpa," Lan Tian called out from the doorway, not entering. Old Mr. Mo was fully absorbed in his book, oblivious to the outside world.

Lan Tian stood at the door for a while, then walked over, sat down opposite him, and glanced at the book in his hands.

"Mo’s acrobatics"
