Chapter 100: The Destroyed of Berdiver City

"Bring him back to life? That’s impossible. There’s no power in this world that can perform a miracle like that," Leon said, making Louise burst into loud laughter.

"If you knew it was impossible to revive him, then you shouldn’t have killed him."

"I didn’t mean to kill him."

"I won’t stop this destruction until Princess Liel’s wish is fulfilled!" Louise declared.

The woman stretched her hand forward. Red threads came out from between her fingers, reaching toward Leon and the rest of the family.

They couldn’t escape. The red threads bound their bodies, and Louise completely took control of them.

"What’s happening?"

"How about we play a little?"

"Where’s Erika?" Louise asked.

Among the family members, Erika was the only one not in the city. Since last week, she had been in the city of Hurdor, representing the Berdiver family at a city meeting.

News of the chaos in Berdiver had reached Hurdor, and people there were curious about the cause of the disaster.

Erika and the Berdiver family’s entourage were forbidden from entering the city for safety. Soldiers from the nearby city had formed a perimeter around the magic dome that besieged Berdiver City.

Anyone who touched the dome’s walls from either side would have their flesh and skin torn away, leaving only a skeleton.

"Father! Mother! Brother!" Erika shouted.

"Who did this?" she asked.

"We don’t know. When we tried to investigate, this magic dome appeared and blocked all the way in," explained the commander of Hurdor’s soldiers.

Erika fell silent. If the soldiers had already tried and failed, then if she tried it herself, she’d meet the same fate.

"Has Hero Lux been called?" Erika asked. The soldier shook his head.

"Someone of my low rank can’t call Hero Lux. Only the king can do that."

"But it’s been three days since this chaos started in Berdiver. There’s no sign of the Caer Vireth Army coming to handle the situation."

"It seems impossible to call them."

Erika clicked her tongue, growing more panicked and anxious about the condition of the city and everyone inside. Most of all, she didn’t know what had caused the disaster.

If she knew, maybe she could figure out the solution.

She and the Berdiver family’s servants remained outside the purple dome, watching the protective barrier that looked more like a trap made from dark energy.

’Dark energy. That’s the key to this.’

Erika thought back on what had happened recently. One major event related to the city was the success of her brother, Leon Thorn, and his party in killing Agares.

"That’s it!" Erika shouted, getting the soldier commander’s attention.

"What?"

"The cause of this chaos is Agares’s death."

"Agares? You mean that saber monster?"

"He died a week ago, yet he’s still troubling everyone," the man said angrily, cursing.

Erika fell silent. There were two ways to deal with Agares’s death: bring him back to life or kill the person who had killed him.

Looking at the current situation, Erika was sure Leon had offered himself to be killed to save the city.

"Knowing Leon, he would sacrifice himself," said Erika.

"Huh? Are you sure? He’s your brother," said the man beside Erika.

"The Thorn family rules Berdiver. It’s our duty to value the lives of many over our own!"

Tears streamed from Erika’s eyes as she stared at the burning city wrapped in flames. The purple dome still covered the entire city, stopping anyone from going in or out.

Inside the city, Louise only needed to move her hand to control Casper, Leon, and Natalya. They held their swords and ran wildly through the city center.

They rushed through narrow alleys, slashing anyone who crossed their path—guilty or not.

"Wait! What are you—"

SLASH!

"Forgive us!" cried Casper, weeping as his body moved against his will under Louise’s control.

Natalya felt the deepest guilt. If she hadn’t planned to kill Agares, maybe none of this would have happened to her, her family, or the people in the city. Natalya knew she was to blame.

"I’m the one who betrayed you all. I’m sorry!"

"You?" asked Casper.

"I’m the one who told the city guards where Agares was. I also reported him to Helderic."

"I’m sorry."

Louise heard everything Natalya said. She pulled the red threads and brought Natalya, Casper, and Leon before her. Louise looked at them with utter disgust.

"Natalya... you started all this chaos!"

"Leon... your carelessness killed Agares!"

"Casper... as the head of the family, you were useless!"

"I don’t need any of you anymore."

With a flick of her fingers, Louise tightened the red magical threads around their necks and swiftly beheaded them, cleanly and quickly.

Their heads separated from their bodies. Casper, Leon, and Natalya died horribly.

Cassandra witnessed Leon’s death, but her fellow party members covered her mouth to keep her from screaming.

Luckily, Louise didn’t notice them. She knew about Leon’s party but pretended not to, so she could observe their next move.

Louise rose into the sky and raised her hand. From the ground, undead monsters and hundreds of other creatures began to rise—beings that had slept buried in the soil.

Summoning all those monsters drained much of Louise’s mana.

FLICK!

She snapped her fingers, dispelling the purple dome that had trapped Berdiver and its people for three days.

Erika and the other soldiers saw the moment and immediately ordered the troops to enter the city and evacuate the citizens.

Unaware of what waited inside, they had just entered a city turned into a nest of undead and golems. Those monsters were at least level three and four—creations from Louise’s magic.

Regular city troops had no hope of defeating such creatures. Erika had no choice but to help fight her way toward the city center. ƒreewebɳovel.com

On the way, corpses of the citizens lay scattered across the ground. Some had been slashed, others stabbed, and some burned alive.

’What kind of horror happened here?’ Erika wondered.

She arrived at the Thorn family estate, watching the fire consume every part of the house.

As she stepped forward, her eyes went wide at the sight of her parents and brother, all dead in gruesome ways.

"Father... Mother... Brother."

"So, you’re Erika?" a voice asked. Louise appeared from a woven spell of red threads at the top of the Thorn estate.

Still holding her family, Erika looked up, her tear-streaked face trembling. Her eyes locked onto the woman in a red dress with crimson eyes.

"You...?"

"With this clone body, I can’t kill you."

"You and the others there... I’ll let you live, so you can tell this story across the empire," Louise said.

Erika looked back, following the direction Louise pointed. There she saw Cassandra and the rest of Leon’s adventuring party.

"You’re still alive?" Erika asked.

"Oh no! We’ve been seen?" they said in unison.

"You think I’m some low-level demon fooled by your cheap magic?"

"No. I’m a high-level demon."

"Who are you?" Erika asked, facing Louise again.

"That’s not important."

Half of Louise’s body faded in the wind, leaving only her upper body behind to deliver her final message to Erika.

"Tell them, Princess Liel’Tharon is still alive. She will begin a war against humans!"

"Liel’Tharon?"
