The Dark Extra: Awakening of SSS-Skill Demon Emperor Legacy-Chapter 101: New Party Leader, Erika
Chapter 101: New Party Leader, Erika
Right after saying that name, Louise completely disappeared from Erika’s sight.
The woman kept trying to follow the direction of the red thread, but it split into hundreds of tiny strands scattered in all directions.
Erika stopped walking. She couldn’t chase something so uncertain. Cassandra and Anna walked toward the Thorn Family residence; Cassandra wanted to hug Leon’s body one last time. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Nathan and Bernard approached Erika. They explained that the city was no longer safe for humans. Undead monsters and stone golems had started attacking the outskirts.
Erika turned her head to the side. She saw Cassandra hugging Leon in deep suffering, her loud sobs echoing. She turned her focus back to the two men in front of her.
"Please, you carry my father’s and Leon’s bodies. I’ll carry my mother’s. We have to bury them," said Erika.
Nathan and Bernard looked at each other. They had actually planned to leave the city as soon as possible, but because the Thorn Family had helped them so much, they felt reluctant to refuse Erika’s request.
"Alright. Leave them to us."
Anna took a wooden box and placed the severed heads of the three into it. Erika carried her mother on her back, Nathan carried Leon, and Bernard carried Casper.
Once everything was ready, they left the city heading south. Compared to the eastern and western gates, the southern gate had not yet been overrun by undead monsters or golems.
Erika kept carrying Natalya’s decapitated body on her back. Blood was still dripping from her mother’s severed neck, staining Erika’s clothes.
Nathan and Bernard had similar experiences, though the sadness in their hearts was nowhere near what Cassandra felt. The two men weren’t grieving like she was.
It wasn’t just them—other surviving citizens were also trying to escape. At the southern gate, they could clearly see the city’s soldiers helping with the evacuation.
"Help us here!" Erika shouted.
Her voice reached one of the soldiers from Hurdor City. He stepped forward and saw Erika carrying a headless corpse on her back.
"Leave her behind! Let’s go."
"I won’t let my mother be destroyed by those monsters!" Erika said sharply.
She handed her mother’s body to the soldier in front of her. He couldn’t refuse. He offered his back to carry Natalya out of the city.
Nathan, Bernard, and the others kept running, trying to avoid the undead monsters chasing them.
Many city soldiers tried to stop the monsters, but their strength was far weaker than Erika expected. Even when attacking together, they couldn’t defeat them.
Erika and the others finally reached the southern outskirts of Berdiver City. The soldier dropped Natalya’s body roughly to the ground. Erika saw this and stood up to confront him.
"What kind of nonsense is this? You made me carry a headless corpse!" the soldier shouted.
"You’re just a regular soldier! How dare you act so arrogantly toward a noble like us?!" Erika snapped.
Nathan stood between them. He firmly said that fighting wouldn’t solve anything. What mattered most now was going into the city and saving as many people as possible.
As an Assassin in Leon’s adventuring party, Nathan could travel quickly to scout for people. Bernard, the Archer, could help hold back the monsters trying to catch civilians.
Anna, the priest, could heal wounded soldiers or townsfolk. Cassandra, the mage, could assist in both offense and defense. And Erika, the Lancer, could attack and distract the enemy.
"Leon is gone. I believe Erika is the only one who can give orders now!" Nathan said strongly.
Bernard, Anna, and Cassandra looked at Erika. Along with Nathan, they all agreed to appoint Erika as the new leader of their adventuring party, at least until the chaos in the city ended.
Erika listened to what they wanted. Her eyes focused on the walls of Berdiver City, where many people were trapped in terrible conditions.
She had already seen how weak the city’s soldiers were. They couldn’t be relied on in this situation. Only adventuring parties or solo adventurers could stand against the enemy.
Erika knew exactly what she had to do.
"Nathan. How fast can you get to Hurdor City?" Erika asked.
"About two hours," he replied.
"Tell the adventurers’ guild there. I’m issuing an emergency quest."
"I need four B–A ranked adventuring parties or twenty A-rank solo adventurers to help me handle the situation in the city."
"Take all the money in my horse cart."
"But without that money, the Thorn Family will—"
Erika turned sharply to the side, glaring with intimidation at one of her servants. Erika’s priority now was to save as many citizens in the city as possible.
Not only that, but they would also kill many monsters there and free Berdiver City from the threat of undead and golems.
That way, Erika could rebuild the city from the ground up.
"Alright."
Nathan left after confirming how much money was in Erika’s cart. Erika and the others walked toward the city gate, joining the Hurdor City soldiers.
The commander of the Hurdor troops turned his head, seeing Erika and her three friends walking in a single line. The middle-aged man looked confused, but he already knew Erika would help.
"You want to save your city?" the man asked.
"I will save my city!" Erika answered.
The man smiled widely. He gave orders to all his soldiers. They were to protect Cassandra, Bernard, and Erika during the evacuation efforts.
Those who were wounded were treated immediately using Anna’s light magic runes.
Erika glanced behind her. Ten soldiers stood ready, clad in heavy armor and holding iron spears. They were prepared to risk their lives.
"I’ve informed the adventurers in Hurdor. They’re coming," said the commander.
Erika nodded. She was assigned to the eastern gate, Cassandra to the northern gate, and Bernard to the west.
The southern gate would serve as the safest evacuation route, guarded by the Hurdor City commander.
The battle was unavoidable. Erika, Cassandra, and Bernard kept fighting the monsters without rest, saving as many people as they could.
One of the red threads flew far from Berdiver City and arrived in front of Louise’s brothel.
From that thread, Louise’s body was fully formed, though her magic was nearly depleted due to the three-day siege.
But her efforts weren’t in vain. Soon, a war would begin—just as Liel had planned.
"Don’t worry, Agares. The empire you want to destroy will start a war very soon."
"There’s no safe place left on this continent."
