The Demon with Holy Radiance-Chapter 95 - 86: Emptying the Cave Residence, the Bizarre and Evil Statue
The cave residence was a pitch-black mountain cave. Above the entrance, the two words "Wuwei Peak" were engraved, perfectly clear even in the dead of night.
Generally, as a place where a Cultivator would train in seclusion, and with Wuwei Peak forbidding its disciples from getting close, it was bound to hold plenty of treasures related to cultivation.
Yang An stepped into the cave residence.
The moment he entered, he was met with darkness. Fortunately, Yang An channeled more Mana into his eyes, allowing them to quickly adapt as he continued forward.
The passage wasn’t long. After about a hundred steps, he reached the end, and the space opened up into a larger chamber.
On the walls were sconces carved from rock, the floor was covered in dry straw, and in the center sat a worn-out meditation cushion. Carved into the far wall was a strange and eerie statue.
The head of the statue was draped in red cloth, while its body was covered in pupil-less eyes. Each eye had wings, and one could almost see the blurred arcs of their movement.
’What the hell is this thing?’
After a single glance and a quiet thought, Yang An tore his gaze away and scanned the rest of the chamber.
Besides the statue, which was carved directly into the cave wall, a scroll painting hung on the left wall.
The scroll was covered in distorted lines and spots. They were clearly just ordinary splotches of Ink, but they emanated a bizarre aura.
Other than these, the cave residence contained only ordinary items.
’A Cultivator at the Primordial Feeding Realm, or maybe even the Visceral Stone Realm... he can’t be this poor, can he? Is there really nothing else?’ Yang An was puzzled.
’Don’t tell me Ding Chong Daoist carries everything on him?’
’But that can’t be right. Who would be so untrusting of their own cave residence and Mountain Gate? Even my master, that old geezer Elder Life Crane, isn’t this paranoid. At least he has the Ascension Cave to store his valuables.’
In the end, Yang An’s gaze fell back on the scroll and the statue.
If anything here was special, it had to be these two items.
He decided to test his theory. Walking over to the scroll, he lightly touched its corner before quickly snatching his hand back.
An info box flashed before his eyes, and they immediately lit up.
Since there was no adverse reaction, he reached out his hand again with confidence.
[**Micro Realm Painting Object**]: Created by Jiu Hu Immortal. A Storage Magical Artifact forged with a Sealing Technique. It can Seal a one-foot square area and link it to the painting, allowing any item to be stored within and retrieved by hand.
**Cost of Use:** Every thirty days, the painting will summon an untouchable entity. The entity can only be appeased by devouring the person who has had the most contact with this object.
**Status:** Purification available!
’So it’s a Storage Magical Artifact!’
’No! It’s more of a Magical Artifact for retrieving things!’
The scroll could Seal a piece of land to use as storage, with the scroll itself acting as the portal for depositing and withdrawing items.
This way, even if the items inside were right under someone’s nose, no one could actually touch them. Only someone inside Ding Chong Daoist’s cave residence could access them.
’What a find!’
The item itself was highly valuable, to say nothing of what it contained. It must be filled with treasures that Ding Chong Daoist held dear.
Yang An decided to try it and immediately plunged his hand into the scroll.
But the moment his hand went in, a loud buzzing suddenly erupted from within the scroll.
’Insects!’
Yang An tensed. Sensing the insects, he knew it had to be a trap left by Ding Chong Daoist. But there weren’t too many of them—only a few hundred at most.
’I might be afraid of your endless swarms, but a few hundred insects? You must be kidding me.’
A grin spread across his face. With his hand still in the scroll, he instantly activated a Technique, and several blinding rays of light burst forth.
In a mere instant, the buzzing insects were all burned to ash.
With the insects dealt with, Yang An wasted no more time. He pulled out everything from inside and stuffed it all into his Meat Burial Talisman.
In total, there were nearly two hundred Cultivation Technique Manuals, a dozen or so Magical Artifacts, dozens of bottles of Elixirs with unknown properties, and a huge pile of oddly shaped Spiritual Objects.
To save time, he hadn’t bothered using his ability to identify any of it, simply grabbing everything in his haste.
In an instant, Yang An had completely emptied the space Sealed by Ding Chong Daoist’s scroll. At the very end, he took the scroll off the wall and tossed it into his Meat Burial Talisman too.
He knew coming here was the right call. Ding Chong Daoist’s private collection was on a completely different level from what Mortal Influences like the Blood Bat Gang and the Iron Tiger Gang possessed.
But now wasn’t the time to inspect his haul. He had to get off Wuwei Peak first.
After stowing away the scroll and everything inside it, Yang An turned to look at the eerie statue on the opposite wall.
’This thing looks pretty malevolent, and it’s carved as one piece with the cave. I wonder if I can take it?’
He slowly reached out a hand, wanting to touch it lightly to see. If he could take it, he wouldn’t leave a single thing behind for Ding Chong Daoist.
’If he dared to make a move on me, he’s going to pay the price.’
But the instant Yang An’s hand touched the statue, he felt every hair on his body stand on end. His entire body froze in place, completely paralyzed.
On the statue before him, the dense array of once-hollow, winged eyes suddenly sprouted pupils. Each one was shot through with countless blood vessels, and they all stared directly at him.
In that instant, it was as if he was being crushed by some invisible, immense pressure. Yang An even felt like he was on the verge of suffocating.
An eternity seemed to pass, though it might have only been a fleeting trance. Then, the eyes suddenly vanished, as if they had never been there at all.
Yang An’s Heart pounded violently, threatening to burst from his chest. An instant later, he regained control of his body, making it seem as if the whole thing had just been an illusion.
’What the hell was that?’
He was thoroughly startled. His hand was still touching the statue, yet no info box had appeared, which meant it was just an ordinary object.
’Too damn sinister!’
Yang An took a deep breath, mobilized his Mana to activate all his Techniques, and smashed his fist—wreathed in blinding light and flames—directly into the statue.
With just one punch, the statue immediately shattered into countless fragments that fell to the ground, completely destroyed in the blink of an eye.
Yang An frowned, looking at the pile of rubble on the floor. The fragments were so small it was impossible to tell what they had once been.
’Was that really just an illusion?’
’But why would I have an illusion for no reason? That shouldn’t happen!’
’Could it be some other trick Ding Chong Daoist left behind in this cave?’
At this thought, Yang An cursed inwardly. Ding Chong Daoist must have already detected his presence on Wuwei Peak and was now monitoring his every move inside the cave!
’I have to get out of here before Ding Chong Daoist gets back!’
