The Destiny Villainess Wants Me To Work!-Chapter 58: The Siblings!
Inside the chief jailer’s office.
After Zhou Kang locked the door and carefully confirmed that no one could overhear him, he picked up his phone and made a call.
*Beep.*
The call connected almost instantly. A calm, unhurried voice came from the other end.
["Jailer Zhou, is the job done?"]
"Yes, Mr Gu. As per your request, that criminal has been placed in a standard cell," Zhou Kang replied, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
["Hmm. Next, I want you to pass a message to a few people inside your prison. And when they take good care of Ye Chen... you will turn a blind eye."]
"I understand. I will complete your task, Mr Gu."
["You’d better."]
["If you can’t even handle something this simple, then what’s the point of us supporting you into that position?"]
Zhou Kang’s heart trembled violently.
He understood the implications behind those words all too well. This wasn’t simple advice; it was a warning. That if he failed, he would be replaced.
After all, he knew better than anyone how he had gained this position in the first place. Without the Gu family’s backing, he couldn’t hold on to it on his own.
"Mr Gu, please stay assured." Zhou Kang said hurriedly.
["Hmm."]
The call ended.
Zhou Kang stood there in silence, his agitated heart slowly calming down. His thoughts drifted to the brief encounter he’d had with Ye Chen earlier.
’Just how did that guy manage to offend the Gu family?’
He shook his head.
’Whatever. None of my business.’
Turning around, Zhou Kang left his office and began making arrangements according to Mr Gu’s instructions.

Meanwhile, inside the Gu family manor.
Gu Xuan stood motionless before a wall, his eyes fixed on a portrait hanging quietly there.
In the painting was a beautiful woman, smiling softly—as if she were smiling at him
For a fleeting moment, he wished she would step out of the frame and appear before him.
But he knew better; it was nothing more than his fantasy. She had already left this world.
The only place she still existed was in his memories—and in his longing that would never be fulfilled.
"Xue Lian..."
He whispered her name.
But the gentle image shattered in an instant, replaced by a memory of that snow stained red with blood.
A sharp pain stabbed into his chest.
His breathing grew laboured.
’Not again...’
The dull, crushing ache spread through his body. His steps faltered, and he barely supported himself by pressing a hand against the wall.
At that moment, a young woman passing through the corridor noticed him. Her expression changed instantly.
"Brother!"
She rushed over, worry written all over her face.
"What’s wrong? Did you forget to take your medicine again?"
She hooked his left arm over her shoulder and carefully guided him toward the sofa. Gu Xuan leaned heavily against her, gasping for breath.
"Furong... I—"
"Don’t talk," she said softly. "I know."
She eased him onto the sofa, then quickly opened a drawer and took out his medicine. A moment later, she returned with a glass of water.
Only after watching him swallow the pills did the tight frown on her face ease slightly.
Her gaze drifted to the portrait on the wall. Her voice lowered.
"Were you... thinking about Sister Lian again?"
Gu Xuan nodded faintly.
Gu Furong pressed her lips together, then leaned forward and gently wrapped her arms around him.
"She would be heartbroken if she saw you like this, brother."
The medicine slowly dulled the physical pain, but Gu Xuan remained silent, his expression empty and distant. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Because the medicine could only ease the pain in his body, not the pain in his heart.
The woman in front of him was Gu Furong. His gentle younger sister. She was currently majoring in acting at Jiangnan University of Drama and Arts.
Noticing his silence, Gu Furong loosened her embrace and sat beside him.
"Oh, right," she said after a moment, forcing a lighter tone. "Do you remember that event Sister Lian participated in back when she was in college? I’m taking part in the same one now. Isn’t that a strange coincidence?"
She smiled faintly.
"But my professor is so annoying. He keeps assigning so much work. I told him I needed time to practice, but he just wouldn’t budge. I swear he has something against me..."
She went on, talking about trivial things—classes, professors, rehearsals, small frustrations from her daily life.
She was trying to distract him.
This method had always worked before. Every time Gu Xuan sank into memories of the past, she would chatter endlessly until his mood improved.
But this time, it didn’t work.
Gu Xuan seemed to be listening, yet his eyes were unfocused, his thoughts drifting far away.
After a while, even Gu Furong ran out of things to say. The room fell into silence.
Several minutes passed.
Then Gu Xuan finally spoke.
"She admired you a lot," he said quietly. "One time, she told me that your acting talent was far better than hers. She believed that, unlike herself, who was still struggling, you would achieve much greater success."
Gu Furong’s fingers tightened slightly.
"I wanted to make a movie for her," Gu Xuan continued. "At first, she refused. She said she wanted to build her career through her own efforts. But later, I convinced her. I told her it would only be a film to commemorate our love."
His voice grew heavier.
"What she didn’t know... was that I planned to release it as her debut film."
"The script was ready. The director, the crew, the cast—everything was prepared. Even the filming locations had been finalised."
He paused.
"But the movie never got the chance to be filmed."
"Because the lead actress... was gone."
Gu Furong listened in silence, her eyes slowly turning red.
Just then, Gu Xuan took a deep breath and abruptly changed the topic.
"That man who forced her to death," he said coldly, "has been caught."
Gu Furong froze. Her eyes widened as she stood up abruptly.
"Really?! Who is it?!"
"The murderer who was on the news yesterday."
"Him?!"
She remembered the report instantly. Rage surged onto her beautiful face.
"Where is he?!"
"Inside the city prison," Gu Xuan replied, standing up as well.
Gu Furong clenched her fists, her voice trembling with fury.
"No, Brother! A beast like that deserves to be skinned alive and tortured to death! How can he be allowed to live peacefully behind prison walls after taking innocent lives?!"
Gu Xuan looked at her calmly. "Live peacefully?"
He scoffed.
"I won’t allow that."
A chilling light flashed through his eyes.
"He will soon experience hell."
