The Destiny Villainess Wants Me To Work!-Chapter 71: Escalating Misunderstanding!
Zhang Xulin put her thoughts aside as they walked toward the basement.
After a moment, she asked, "Do you know who sent her?"
"Not yet," Su Mo replied casually. "We’ll ask when she wakes up."
He paused.
"I just hope there isn’t a bounty on Miss Yang’s head."
Zhang Xulin’s steps slowed, and her expression darkened.
"...A bounty?"
"Not sure, but if there is," he sighed, "it’ll be annoying."
"Annoying?" she repeated incredulously.
"Yeah. One killer is fine. Ten is also fine. But if they come in waves, that’s just overtime work."
She stared at his back.
Was this man incapable of feeling tension? Or was he so confident that danger simply didn’t register in his mind?
Still, his presence did relieve a lot of her worries.
After a moment, he asked, "By the way... Something crossed my mind earlier. Don’t you think the villa’s security is too lax?"
"It wasn’t always like this," Zhang Xulin said. "Miss used to have an entire team of armed elite bodyguards."
Su Mo blinked. "Seriously? Then where are they now?"
Zhang Xulin glanced at him. "She dismissed them."
"...Why?" Su Mo asked.
"Because she said," Zhang Xulin uttered with a blank expression, "’Even all of them combined can’t last ten seconds against you. I don’t need useless people. Su Mo alone is enough.’"
Su Mo nearly tripped. "She said that?"
"Yes."
He scratched his cheek, suddenly awkward.
"Isn’t that... a bit too reckless? Trusting someone you just met with your life?"
As soon as he said that, he recalled the conversation he had with Miss Yang previously, the day they had come clear and a complicated look appeared on his face.
"I told her the same thing." Zhang Xulin replied.
"And?" Su Mo, an unfamiliar feeling emerged in him. ’Strange.’
"She didn’t listen at all." Zhang Xulin shook her head helplessly.
They continued walking.
After a pause, Zhang Xulin added softly,
"Though I have to admit... Miss does have a good eye for people."
Su Mo heard this, and a natural smile appeared on his face. He straightened unconsciously.
"Well, obviously."
She glanced at him sideways.
The pure, gentle smile on Su Mo’s face that appeared for a moment stunned her. However, it was soon replaced by his usual uncaring laziness.
’Was that my imagination?’ she wondered.
But her expression softened.
She suddenly stopped walking and turned to face him.
"Su Mo."
He blinked. "Yes?"
Sister Xulin’s gaze was serious now.
"I hope you continue living up to Miss’s trust."
"Of course. That’s my job."
"Not your job."
He tilted his head in confusion.
"It’s your responsibility as a man."
"...What?"
"I don’t want Miss Yang to be heartbroken."
Su Mo stared at her, bewildered.
Their conversation had clearly derailed into different dimensions.
"We’re still talking about protecting her, right?"
Zhang Xulin ignored that.
"Remember my words," she said quietly. "I’ll be watching you."
She turned and resumed walking.
Su Mo stood there for two seconds, completely confused.
’Watching me? For what?’
Did he look suspicious?
’Was this a thing among bodyguards?’
’Women truly are mysterious creatures... Trying to catch up with their thought process is like playing a flute while running a marathon.’
He shifted the assassin slightly on his shoulder and followed.
What he didn’t know—
Earlier that evening, Zhang Xulin had received a call from Young Master Yang.
The news from him had nearly shattered her composure.
Miss Yang and Su Mo were dating!
Su Mo was to be the future son-in-law of the Yang family!
She couldn’t believe it.
Impossible! Absurd!
Until Young Master Yang showed her the evidence.
There were photos and confirmation messages from Lady Yang and Master Yang.
Zhang Xulin had stood motionless in her room long after the call ended, her phone still in her hand as her thoughts refused to settle.
There was shock, doubt, and finally a reluctant acceptance.
Miss Yang, the girl she had watched grow up together, protected, scolded, and had worried over, was suddenly in a relationship.
And with this guy.
She glanced at Su Mo’s back now.
He was walking ahead, humming under his breath, an unconscious assassin slung over his shoulder like a sack of rice.
He is carefree, lazy, but absurdly powerful.
’Was he worthy?’
She didn’t know.
But she would find out.
’I’ll be watching,’ she repeated silently.
Ahead of her, Su Mo was busy contemplating whether the Squat Card of a higher grade is also available in check-in rewards.
He wanted to try it on Miss Yang.
For purely knowledge purposes, of course.
---
When Mother Yang received photos of Yang Qingxi and Su Mo at the park from her well-meaning friend, the manager of Central Park. It was as if a volcano had erupted inside the Yang household.
The evidence was painfully clear.
Yang Qingxi was walking hand in hand with Su Mo, her cheeks flushed.
Su Mo was crouching at an arcade machine, laughing with a group of children, while Yang Qingxi stood behind him. Her eyes were soft, and her gaze was fixed entirely on his back.
And then the most explosive set was the last two photos.
One of them is entering a couples-only area, and the other is leaving.
The time difference was exactly one hour and twelve minutes.
What did couples do in a couples-only area for over an hour?
They weren’t playing poker. No one needed to spell it out. Right?
The Yang parents were thunderstruck. Father Yang had been crying in grief, wishing to chop Su Mo to pieces. Mother Yang was now even more interested in meeting this son-in-law of hers.
Young Master Yang’s expression had been... complicated.
Even Zhang Xulin had fallen silent when she saw the timestamps.
Her only confusion was: ’When did it happen?’
She was with Miss almost every day.
The one day she took leave, the two of them went on a date?
"Su Mo, you sly dog!" She muttered a complaint.
When Yang Zhen saw her stunned expression back then, realisation dawned on him. No wonder Sister Xulin was still single. In matters related to the heart, she was completely hopeless.
Because of that explosive misunderstanding, tonight’s awkward lecture had happened.
Zhang Xulin had decided there was no need to expose the matter openly. If Miss and Su Mo were keeping it private, she would respect that. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
As long as Su Mo understood his responsibilities.
Too bad—forget understanding.
At this very moment, Su Mo was completely bewildered, "Huh...? Am I sly? Why are you scolding me?"
However, Sister Xulin clearly had no intention of explaining anything further.
Which left him even more perplexed.
’What’s wrong with this woman? Is she still half asleep?’
’Forget it, as long as it doesn’t affect me.’
