The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love-Chapter 443: Deep in the heart
"Anming! Where are you going? Hey, where are you taking him!"
The Hou family’s second son, Hou Anming, was one of the many arrests that had concluded the engagement chaos. Out of all the arrested people, only he remained calm as he made his way towards the police car.
Huojin said, "Your husband is involved in planning Miss. Nuwa’s murder."
"That’s not true! Didn’t Mom say that she hired the hitman? How come you are taking Anming now?"
"That is yet to be decided, Mrs. Hou. For now, we have the bank records that puts him in a tight spot, and considering Mrs. Hou Huan’s relationship with him, we naturally assume she is trying to protect her son. He has to be taken in for further questioning."
"But he did not do anything! Him trying to kill Nuwa is utter nonsense! You are arresting an innocent man!"
Hou Delan was at a loss. All of her in-laws had gotten arrested quite miserably to the point that it became a spectacle. But she didn’t care about any of that. She had always hated Hou Huan’s guts anyway. Hou Jielun was nothing but a maniac creep to him. And she made it a point to keep her distance from Hou Tengqi, who acted too volatile and unpredictable, especially because of his temper.
The Hou family falling like dominoes was like a dream come true for her. With so much hard evidence, escaping from law seemed pretty much pointless - which meant that she could have the Hou estate all to herself. But never in those same dreams did she imagine Anming getting dragged into this mess. In his entire crazy family, he was the only sane man with two brain cells more than his brothers and parents.
Hou Anming was the perfect heir of the family who was neither a maniac like Jielun, nor temperamental like Tengqi.
But what will I do if they take Anming away too!
She liked the luxuries of the Hou family but not the responsibilities that came along with maintaining those luxuries.
So Hou Delan ran towards her husband in an attempt to convince him.
"Anming, I know you. You have nothing to do with Nuwa or the assassin, don’t you? Then just come out with it!"
Anming wasn’t particularly fazed. "I confessed so I cannot back out now, Delan."
She was left stunned. "What nonsense! Do you mean to say that if they prove the accusations, you are ready to go to jail?"
"I cannot control the outcome."
"Bullshit! If you helped Nuwa escape all those years back, then there is no way you lifted even a single finger of yours to do this dirty work. You are not crazy like the rest of your idiotic family!"
He stared and eventually a smile lifted his lips. "Finally, you speak your true mind."
She stiffened.
"I knew you were bottling your feelings all this time. I am glad that you can let them all out now."
She gritted her teeth. "My feelings aren’t the problem here, your arrest is! Tell me, why are you doing this? Who told you to get into Nuwa’s mess?"
"Nobody."
Delan strangely remained silent at that. She stared at him hard until her eyes felt like they were burning.
"You did it because Syaoran told you to do it, right?"
He didn’t respond.
"It was him. He hid Nuwa for all these years. Then how did you learn that she was alive? All of a sudden, he felt like sharing the secret with you? No. He...needed you."
He still didn’t utter a word in response.
"He probably...wanted to tighten the noose around Mom’s neck by making you the scapegoat. She would never let her sons come into the line of fire and he used that fact against her. All that evidence and that hitman is all fake, isn’t it? He told you...to wire that huge sum of money to wherever he wanted, and you did it."
He still said nothing.
The more he kept silent, the more her fury rose. "I cannot believe you...You let Syaoran use you like a chess piece? Are you nuts!? You are going to jail because of his plan and he is there peacefully sitting in his wheelchair! Why would you do something so foolish!"
Anming finally raised his gaze to her level. "You know why."
She slowly bit her lower lip, then pressed upon it harder and harder.
"Are you...humiliating me right now?"
"No. I would never humiliate you," he calmly said. "But you knew when you married me."
She trembled.
"I never kept my feelings for him from you. You agreed to marry me knowing everything. You didn’t want my love either way."
"Are you calling me shallow?"
"No. You wanted a comfortable life. There was nothing wrong about that."
"So how can you go ahead and do something so selfish? It doesn’t matter if I married you for money, you are still my husband. You cannot leave me like this!"
He studied her eyes.
"Do you like me?"
She didn’t immediately answer.
"Is it so wrong to grow at least a little bit fond of you? You were the only sane man in that family. And you treated me well."
"Of course. Our dynamics might be different, but you are still my wife."
Delan didn’t know why her eyes ached. She felt the wind’s chilliness pricking them even more.
"He won’t love you back."
"I know. He has rejected me many times already. His decision will never change."
"Yet you still went ahead and did this stupidity. You know he used your feelings for him, right? He knew you would never say no to him."
He closed his eyes, his lips automatically curving into a soft smile. "Yeah. He knows me well."
Anming opened his eyes again and saw her trying to hide her slightly reddened eyes. He placed his hand on her head.
"You worry too much. I have a feeling I won’t suffer the same fate as the rest of my family."
Her gaze darkened. "And what gives you this certainty?"
Anming glanced at Syaoran’s side - with Syaoran already watching him from afar. From his wheelchair, his gaze was fixed at the couple with no particular expression across his features.
Anming looked back at her. "Because I know him just as well."
