The Devil's Betrothed-Chapter 814: Hurt Draven
Morpheus released himself from Draven’s hold, whose wing was still holding him protectively as if the danger had not gone yet.
"You idiot Dragon," Morpheus cursed under his breath, utterly angry, "If you were not hurt, I would have kicked your ass so you won’t ever forget to use your brain before thinking to do something idiotic."
There was no response from Draven, but the dragon was breathing, his eyes closed.
"Wake up now and stop pretending," Morpheus stood up and saw over the pit that Ember was coming to them. "She is coming. Want her to cry again?"
The dragon’s heavy breathing continued to move the snow around.
"Did you hear me?" Morpheus said and knelt next to him. "If you die, I swear I will come after you to hell and drag you out and then beat you to death again." Though he said it this way, his voice was a little shaky, his eyes moist.
Ember reached there, each step heavy as if a huge weight was tied to her feet, fear of losing her mates gripping her heart.
She looked down at the pit, her both mates there. Morpheus was fine, but Draven wasn’t. Morpheus flew up and carried her down to Draven. Both of them were unable to say a word, but a silent understanding was there.
Ember knelt next to his face, her hand gently caressing the huge rough scale around his massive head. "Draven..." her voice choked with sobs and none of the words could make their way out.
Morpheus knelt next to her, his wings folding behind to disappear. "He is breathing... He is fine..." he tried to assure her, but his own heart wasn’t sure. "He is more powerful than we know..."
Ember shook her head and continued crying. "Draven... I am sorry... If something happens to you... I won’t live either..."
"I will follow you two as well," Morpheus said. "Damn dragon, do you truly want us dead?"
There was no response from him.
But the next moment Draven’s dragon form changed to his human form. Exposed body, only a magical hide around his waist.
Ember’s tiny hand that was on the dragon’s head hung in the air now, and both of them heard the pained voice. "I am not dead yet... Stop mourning over me..."
Both of them looked down at the snowy floor, Draven’s expression pained.
Ember quickly cupped his face in her hands, her lips trembling to say words, "You... are fine...."
He opened his eyes and looked at them both. "I am the invincible God of War... Nothing can kill me, unless I want to die."
Though pained, that arrogance and prideful tone felt like the most relieving words the other two could ever hear.
Ember’s trembling lips curved into a pained smile, but then she looked at Draven’s left hand and shoulder, which were burned as he had taken the brunt of the hellfire.
Her tears wouldn’t stop as she held his hand. "It must hurt...."
"It’s nothing," Draven assured, but despite trying to hide it, the pain was evident in his eyes.
She brought his hand closer and blew on it gently, as if it could help soothe his pain, her tears continuing to drench his skin.
Draven flinched a little. Against his burnt skin, her tears felt ice cold, as if making up for the burn it caused.
"I am alright," he assured once more. "Stop crying."
She shook her head stubbornly while Morpheus said, "You see, he is alive. Now let’s just return to our home."
As he said it, she looked at him. "Can we?... I want to go home..." There was a longing in her voice as she truly missed their life back home.
"Dare anyone stop us, and it will be the last moment they will be breathing," Morpheus replied.
Just then, others arrived and stepped forward to take a look at them.
Ember, who sensed their presence, turned her teary eyes rageful and stood up. Her body flew in the air above that pit and emitted the hellfire. It formed a circle around them to stop anyone coming closed to them, and she glared at the others.
"If any of you come closer to us, I swear I will kill you all this instant," she said angrily, and she meant it. "You pathetic deities, stay away."
Everyone stepped back as they understood her anger.
The Devil remained in his place and said, "Calithra, you should let me take a look at him," he offered. "You know well, I never meant to harm you or him."
He addressed her by her true name, looking at her with fearless calm.
Ember recognised him. Drayvor, the one she used to trust the most in the past, and she still did. She allowed the hellfire to make a way for him so he could reach them. Once he was inside, the way closed and she retuned back to Draven, leaving other deities to stay away.
Drayvor first used his power and the ground below where Draven was lying in the dragon shaped pit, lifted up, levelling it to the rest of the snowy ground.
Drayvor knelt next to Draven. He put his hand on his forehead to scry through his energy core, his eyes closed. When he let go, he opened his eyes and looked at Draven.
"You need to recuperate in the healing chamber or heaven realm for a while," Drayvor told him. "Your core needs to be stabilised."
"I am fine," Draven’s voice was firm but pained. "My mate wants to return home and so do I."
Drayvor looked at Ember. "Do you want him to not get better entirely?" His voice calm but strict at the same time. "Hellfire, though it didn’t kill him, has hurt him and he needs healing." Then he looked at Draven’s hand she was holding. "Your tears have already eased his pain and wound, but it was the hellfire that harmed him, and phoenix tears alone are not enough to heal it. Be patient, and no one will stop you from leaving here."
Ember agreed as Draven was more important to her than her hatred towards the heaven realm. "Only until he gets better."
"We will need help from the Emperor of Heaven," Drayvor added. "His divine power will help Draven’s core which only he can do. Do not reject it."
Ember fell silent for a moment, but swallowed her anger for her mate’s sake. "They are the reason for all this that happened, so they shall pay for it. Later, we will have nothing to do with them."
Morpheus felt relieved to hear it, as Ember’s anger wasn’t something that could be contained easily. The next moment, the circle of hellfire that was stopping all the deities disappeared.
