Chapter 119: Alex and Jessica face-off

Chapter – 119

“I am sorry, but I can’t accept this offer,” Alex put the file back on the table and politely rejected the offer.

“Why? Are you not satisfied with something?” Jessica asked, but from her expressions, she did not look much surprised by his rejection.

Karen, on the other hand, was taken back. She had felt that Alex was very well going to accept the offer and continue working with her for a long, long time. And from his earlier remarks, she thought he really would, she really wanted him to, but alas, things took a different turn. 𝒇𝘳ℯℯ𝚠𝙚𝑏𝗻𝑜ѵ𝑒𝙡.co𝑚

“No... No... No... On the contrary, your offer would be very appealing to anyone offered it,” Alex shook his head, “Just not to me.”

“But why?” Daniel could not just keep silent anymore. He stood up from the couch and made his way towards them, “If everything is fine, why are you refusing it?”

“Well, for one, I have never heard any employee sign a contract for a duration. Three years is way too long for me,” Alex said as he tapped the file on the table.

.....

“What three years?” Karen asked as she looked confused at Alex then towards Jessica. 𝒇𝘳𝐞𝚎𝓌𝑒𝑏𝒏𝑜𝙫ℯl.c𝚘𝒎

“It’s nothing,” Jessica shook her head, “Even if we were to push that aside, he won’t continue to work here, aren’t I right, Mr Alex Rutherford?” Jessica ignored Karen’s query and instead questioned Alex.

“What are you guys talking about among yourselves?” Daniel asked. Both Karen and Daniel had no idea what Alex and Jessica were talking about.

But Jessica ignored Daniel as well, “Why did you join my company?” Jessica asked, staring intently at Alex.

“Why would anyone want to join your company?” Alex counter-questioned. It was like only Alex and Jessica were in the room.

“Men? For the ladies, of course,” Jessica replied with a smirk on her face, “Well, except for a few,” Jessica said as she looked at Daniel.

“I guess I am one of the few,” Alex knew that she was not talking about him, but he used her words for himself, “I just wanted to work here and learn from the best. What’s so wrong about it?”

“But you don’t need to work anywhere, do you? Your father runs a big enough company for you to get by,” Jessica finally talked about George.

This revelation took even Karen by surprise, let alone Daniel. She knew about Alex’s mother being a doctor. But if Jessica is pointing that out, his father must own a relatively big company for her to pay attention to it.

Surprised by how Jessica would know about it, Alex was perplexed, “You did a background check on me?” Alex asked.

“Oh well, you looked suspicious,” Jessica nodded, “Getting into the good books of two of my people in less than two months of working here. It got me curious.”

“You...” Alex wanted to say something but turned towards Karen, not wanting to waste his energy on Jessica anymore, “I can explain.” He was more concerned with what Karen would think about him following the revelation.

But before Karen could ask anything of Alex, Jessica interfered, “You need more explaining to do to me. Why did you join my company?” Jessica asked again, “Or did you think of getting a chunk of people to switch sides?”

“Just shut it for a whi...” Alex rebuked Jessica, but when her words registered in his mind, Alex looked at her with a twisted face, “Wait a minute... Do you think I was here to poach those working for you? How preposterous,” Alex was startled by the accusation thrown at him.

“Not just my staff,” Jessica shook her head, “I am sure since your father is in the same business, you want to have my artists as well, isn’t that right?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Alex looked at Jessica with annoyance, “For once, try to think with that unused brain in your knees instead of these two meatballs on your chest.”

“Wha... What?” Jessica was jaw-dropped hearing Alex.

“What else? I have been working here for about two months. Can you have anyone come forward and say that I tried to have them switch to my dad’s company?” Alex asked.

“...I get it. You have some past traumas and troubles, and I sympathise with you, I truly do,” Alex softened a bit and tried to connect with Jessica, “And I believe that what you are trying to do with Theation is very, very optimistic for the society. A place where women can spread their wings and take society by storm. The idea is very commendable, but your application is flawed. What you go around spouting everywhere is that you believe in is crushing men, their pride. Why? What did men do in general? Your fiancé cheated on you, very bad, disgusting, condemnable, but he cheated on you with whom? Wasn’t that your friend if I were to go by the rumours? A woman, wasn’t she? So why become the torchbearer to crush the male population for a disgusting act done by two people, a man and a woman? Maybe because you feel inferior to her?” Alex tried to pry inside Jessica’s mind.

“Shut up... Shut up... Not a single word out of your damn mouth after this,” Jessica flared up. She felt that Alex was deliberately trying to mess with her by bringing her past.

“I will... I will shut up,” Alex said, throwing his arm. But he did not seem sorry about his words, “I just want to suggest that you should stop finding conspiracies in everything around you. I came to Theation to know how it rose to prominence in such a short time and learn. And yes, after working for about a year or so, I was determined to join my father. I was determined to leave and help my father’s company grow the same way,” Alex continued and turned towards Karen, “And I did not try to hide this fact. I just felt that it was not something important.” Alex wanted to explain it to Karen. He literally didn’t care what Jessica thought of him, he was out of here anyway.

But Jessica was far from letting it go, “You think I am a three year old gullible kid? You offer me candies, and I believe you? You can fool everyone with your acting but not me.”

“As if I need to,” Alex finally snapped and lost it. He did not care who was in front of him or who else was in the room, “I don’t know why my father thought of you as a competent person? What I see is nothing but a bimbo running a company on her whims like a spoiled brat with loads of money.”

This was it. Jessica too lost her cool again and stood up, staring at Alex like a hungry lioness, “I dare you to say that again,” Jessica threatened.

Alex was not going to back down either. Ignoring the constant tugging of Karen, he leaned on the desk, and as he stared right into Jessica’s eyes, smirked, “Why wouldn’t I? I called you a bimbo. Want me to explain? You have got the figure, two nice racks, and everything that would give a man a boner in his pants, even I have a hard time not staring at you. But you don’t have that one thing that makes others invest their time in you,” Alex said as he put his legs on the chair and smacked his knee. He was clearly provoking her, implying her brain was in her knees.

“You....” Jessica felt her throat go dry, hearing Alex’s blatant provocations. Not even her family that she despises with her heart had the gall to treat her that way.

“What is it with you... me... who? What can you do other than point fingers? Do you want to fire me? Too bad, even if you did, I would still send my resignation to you,” Alex was in form. He didn’t care about the consequences anymore, “You will have my resignation on your desk before the end of the day,” Alex said, and without looking at anyone else, stormed out of the room, leaving a fuming Jessica and shocked Karen and Daniel duo behind.
