The Devil's Harem-Chapter 152
Chapter 152: What a scoundrel world it is
Chapter – 152
“I will meet you there tonight,” when the door opened, Susan was standing outside the elevator happily talking on her phone with someone.
Right now, Alex is in Theation. Jessica had called him out of nowhere to talk something about the business. And since Alex had nothing better to do in his monotonous life of going forth between his home and his company, he was quick to agree.
But he had never counted upon coming face to face with Susan. That brawl he was a part of in front of the reception was the last time he saw her. After that, Alex, for his own convenience and peace of mind, chose not to use the company’s main entrance.
In the beginning, Alex thought Susan was the silent and shy type, and everyone around her bullied her. That’s why he offered to take her out for dinner. Alex had a good impression of Susan all throughout that meal to the point he tried to take a stand for her in front of those small-time thugs. True that he was beaten black and blue, but he did try and take a stand.
One thing led to the other, and in the heat of the moment, they ended up crossing the line. It was all fine and hunky-dory till that moment. But the moment Alex and Susan stepped outside the hospital, Susan changed. After that exhilarating experience, Susan wanted to keep everything that had happened under wraps. And to be honest, Alex had no problem with it. He was not the type to talk about his private life, especially his sex life with everyone. But her tone had changed. While she sounded sweet and caring a couple of hours back, she was domineering at that time.
But as if her switch flipped, she was all sweet and caring the next day. Alex could not just figure it out, but everything was swept away by the blooming prospect of love. Everything turned pink and flowery for him. He would spend his days thinking about Susan and fantasizing about different scenarios. Until it, all shattered that day.
.....
Until this day, Alex does not know who that man was. Well, he did not really care about that man and Susan after that, but still, he had never seen that man at Theation. But he must be something for Susan to ditch him that fast.
‘Who was that man?’
‘Why did it never hurt me for what she did to me? I only felt anger for a while, and now that she is in front of me. Why don’t I feel anything?’
While these thoughts came rushing to Alex’s mind, Susan was also in a dilemma as to step inside the elevator or not. Deliberating over it for a while, just as the elevator doors were about to close, she stepped inside.
Giving Alex a glance, Susan got back to talking on her phone.
“I won’t be late,” Susan said, “Yeah... Listen, I have something to do. Let me call you back in a while. Yeah, bye...” And Susan ended the call.
The doors closed, and as the elevator moved up, it was followed by a momentary silence. Susan thought that Alex would initiate the conversation, but Alex stood straight, without even stealing glances at her.
Finally, Susan could not hold back.
“Ahh... Funny meeting you here,” Susan exclaimed, “How have you been doing?” She asked.
“I am doing good,” Alex nodded and, out of courtesy, asked, “What about you?”
“Oh... I am doing alright as well,” Susan said, gloating, happy about something, “It has been so many days. I did not even know what happened to you after that day. I felt very sad for you,” Susan said, but there was everything but regret on her face.
Alex nodded but did not wish to comment any further.
“So why are you coming only today?” Susan asked. Soon it would be time for everyone to leave, and Alex was coming now.
“I just had some work.” Alex vaguely replied.
“So, are you still an intern?” Susan inquired further, “Or you signed the contract when many of the employees were promoted?”
“I don’t work here anymore,” Alex shook his head.
“What?” Susan looked at Alex, confused, “Don’t tell me you got yourself fired.” Susan looked at Alex in disappointment.
“No, I resigned on my own,” Alex finally looked at Susan and said, but he soon turned his head away.
“Oh...” Though Susan said that, her face had nothing but scorn on her face. She did not believe Alex. And Alex could feel it, but he chose not to explain himself.
“... So, are you here to collect your dues or something?” Despite the disinterest Alex showed, Susan continued to pry into the details.
*Ding!
But before Alex could say something, the elevator came to a halt, and the doors opened. It was Susan’s stop, the Finance department of Theation. Susan stepped out of the elevator, but when she saw Alex still standing inside, she was even more confused.
“Are you not getting off here?” Susan asked.
“Oh, I am here to meet Jessica,” Alex looked at Susan in marvel and said with a mocking smile.
“Jessica?” Now, this was a stunner for Susan. Her lips grew slightly apart in shock.
Alex put his hand in his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. Taking out his card from the wallet, just before the doors could close, he threw the card towards Susan and left from there.
Still, in confusion, Susan slowly lifted her hand and pulled out the card stuck between her lips.
‘Alex Rutherford, COO,’ Susan could not read any further before the card slipped out of her hand.

Alex got off the elevator on Jessica’s floor. It was his second time here, and like before, it was still silent and serene.
Looking around, Alex slowly made his way to the lady sitting behind the desk beside Jessica’s office. He had seen the lady once before, what was her name...? Something sleazy it was...
“Hi...” Alex greeted the lady, “I have an appointment with Jessica,” Alex tapped on her desk and told her.
“Your name, sir?” The lady politely asked.
“Alex Rutherford,”
The lady looked at her tab and nodded, “I am sorry, sir, but there has been an uninvited guest. Would you mind waiting in the lounge for a while?” The lady said, pointing towards a room.
Alex was about to agree to the lady’s suggestion when banging the door behind him, a man walked out of Jessica’s office.
“Do you think just because you have the support of that old man, you are going to do whatever crosses that brain of yours?” The man had just walked out, but he turned back and yelled, opening the door.
“You and your mother,” The man did not stop, “Both of you bitches have always been in my way, holding me back from achieving great things.”
“... It’s good that she died, but she had to leave a bitch behind to ruin everything for me.” The man continued to curse at Jessica.
Alex, on the other side, was left flabbergasted. He could easily discern the relationship between the man and Jessica, but something else surprised him. Other than the fact that the man was nothing but scum to curse at her daughter, that too in front of everyone, there was no response from Jessica.
From what he knows about Jessica, by this time, a paperweight or vase should have come flying towards him, smashing his head. But there wasn’t even a verbal counter from her side.
“Sir, please...” The lady behind the desk lightly grabbed Alex’s arms and tried to pull him away from there. She wanted him to leave for the lounge.
“Chill... We are quite close,” Alex pulled his arm away and assured the lady. There was such a nice show going in front of him. Alex was not going to just miss it, trying to act chivalrous.
“Listen, and listen very carefully,” The man said, pointing his finger at Jessica from the door, “I don’t want to hear no for an answer.” And the middle-aged man closed the door with a bang.
‘So it’s over,’ Alex sighed, but as if the man did not want to disappoint him, the old man walked back and kicked the door, but the impact left him limping.
Alex giggled, seeing the old man walk away limping on one leg, but then it dawned upon him, how was he going to face Jessica now? It was all fun and amusing for a while, but surely he can’t go inside right now.
Thinking about it, Alex turned toward the lady only to find her glaring at her. She was not happy with him poking into her boss’s private matters.
Alex knew the reason behind her glare and gave her a sheepish smile, “How about we let her settle down for a while? Tell her that I was here and ask her to call me.” Alex suggested.
The lady nodded, ‘At least he is sensible.’
So coming to an arrangement, Alex turned around to leave before stopping. He finally remembered.
Alex turned back and looked at the lady who was also looking at him go, “Lizzie, right? I knew your name had something sleazy about it...”
“I will be back, Sleazy Lizzie.”
