Chapter - 93

"Let's go," Daniel made his way to the car, and Alex followed.

Alex hurriedly went towards the driver's side, but Daniel stopped him before he could enter.

"I will drive," Daniel told Alex.

"How can I let you? I am here to help you, not the other way round," Alex was reluctant to let Daniel drive.

"Just do what I say," Daniel said and tried to take the keys from Alex, but Alex was hesitant to give them. It took effort from Daniel to finally snatch them away.

"Pheww... You have some tight grip," Daniel said, looking at the keys, "Now get in,"

Alex could only comply with Daniel's orders.

After they got seated, Daniel handed him some files.

"These are?" Alex asked with a questioning look on his face.

"Just like I said. So many things happened in the last couple of days. Lawsuits after lawsuits. Both of them ended in the same precinct. All of this can't be a coincidence. Well, I for one, refuse to believe it." Daniel said, shaking his head.

"Then?" Alex was still unsure what he got to do with all of this.

"I want you to look into this matter. I am certain that someone is targeting our company on purpose. I want you to find out whatever happened with Abir and Suzie. Try to find out as much as possible," Daniel told his suspicions to Alex, "It's hard to find out who is behind all this, but we need to try."

"And, you want me to investigate this matter? As in as a detective? A private investigator?" Alex asked.

"That's right?" Daniel nodded as he looked at Alex with a smile.

"But I don't have any expertise in this. I am the last person you should be looking for scooping around," Shaking his head, Alex said.

"There is always a first. Karen, who rarely praises anyone, has praised you a lot, and I don't want to question her trust in you," Daniel said with a smile.

"Did she?" Alex asked.

"Oh, yes... Why would I lie to you?" Daniel replied.

"What did she say?" Alex adjusted a bit and turned towards Daniel.

"Well, I can't say that. You see, I am a lawyer, and I take Attorney-Client privilege very seriously." Daniel told Alex with a serious face.

"Well, it's hard to believe, but I will trust you on that," Alex sat back comfortably, "And I will try to work on it," Ales said as he waved the file in front of Daniel.

"These files contain information about Abir and Suzie. There are also copies of reports filed against them and other pieces of evidence submitted. I want you to go through them and try to find if they are being set up or really did something wrong," Daniel explained about the files.

"Something wrong as in?" squinting his eyes, Alex looked at Daniel, "Unintentionally wrong or are you suspect that the two of them might be on it?" Alex asked.

"We don't..." Daniel said, "That's just my speculation. You are the one going to find out about it."

"I will try not to disappoint you," Alex assured Daniel.

"Well, try to find as much as you can," Daniel said, "Now go through the details, and if you have anything to ask me, don't be shy."

The rest of the drive was simple. Alex rummaged through the documents, and wherever he got stuck, he would try to clarify his doubts with Daniel. Daniel also patiently tried his best to make Alex understand the details.

Outside Theation,

Daniel stopped his car outside Theation, "I need to go somewhere else," Daniel said, looking at Alex, "I would suggest that you take the rest of the day off. It would be better if you go through the documents first today."

"Will that be okay?" Alex asked.

"Don't worry. I will message Karen," Daniel said.

"I will do as you say then," Alex nodded. He picked up the files, put them in his bag and got off the car.

"Alex!" Daniel called out as he gestured Alex to come to his side.

"Yes?"

"I will let you know the date that will be assigned for the hearing. But I guess it will be two or three days from today. I need you to keep that in mind," Daniel said.

"I will," Alex nodded.

"Then I will meet you tomorrow," Daniel said and drove away.

Alex also pulled out his phone and made his way towards the parking.

In the PR department,

Karen was in her office going through some files while Ellaine stood in front of her, waiting.

It was then that her phone buzzed. It was a call from Daniel.

"Hello," Karen picked up the call.

"I am calling to let you know that I will be borrowing your intern for a few days," Daniel got straight at point, "You are going to miss him for a few days, haha..." Daniel laughed as he said.

"Well, you can have him," Karen placed the file back and leaned back on her chair, "Nobody is going to miss him given the circumstances," Karen played along.

"Well, I guess we are not the only ones on toes," Daniel agreed.

"So? How was he? Did you like him?" Karen asked, swinging on her chair. It was as if she was talking to an old friend. There were no formalities. Ellaine ears perked, trying to figure out what they were talking about.

"Well, at least he is willing to learn and thinks on his own rather than just following orders," Daniel told Karen, "As for the rest, I will have to see how it goes."

"Don't overwork him. He is the star of many eyes here," Karen said as she looked at Ellaine.

"I don't suppose your eyes are among them? Hahaha..." Daniel teased Karen.

"I don't have time to waste on you. There is a pile of work for me," Karen said and ended the call.

"Daniel?" Ellaine asked when Karen put back her phone.

"Yeah. He was talking about Alex," Karen said as she grabbed the file back, "Alex will be helping him for the next few days."

"Oohh..." Ellaine nodded, "I will miss my errand boy," Ellaine said, a bit disappointed by Alex's absence. Looks like she was finally over that incident the other night.

Karen just nodded, hearing her. Ellaine, on the other hand, looked at Karen and looked a bit hesitant to say something.

"Chief," Ellaine called out.

"Hmmm?"

"I think today both of you..." Ellaine wanted to say something, but Karen's phone buzzed once again. It was a message.

Karen grabbed her phone and checked the message. It was from Alex.

'Daniel has asked me to help him out with something. So I won't be coming to the PR department for the next couple of days. Daniel said he will let you know, but I am informing you just in case."

On reading the message, a small smile bloomed on Karen's face that did not go unnoticed by Ellaine. Though Karen wished the circumstances could be better. If they had not had that fight in the morning, instead of this formal, on-point message, she was sure it would have been a humorous one with a lot of flowery words. Still, it was better than nothing. 𝒇𝐫ℯ𝑒𝒘ℯ𝑏n𝑜ѵ𝐞l.c𝗼𝗺

"Ohh... who is he? One who can bring a smile on our boss's face must be someone special?" Ellaine asked as she bent forward, trying to sneak a peek into Karen's phone.

"Take this file and Get lost," Karen tossed the file towards Ellaine, who caught it in the nick of time.

"Fine... fine... you can enjoy your me time reading the message over and over again" Ellaine turned around to leave but not before she took the chance to tease Karen.

"Looks like I have been too friendly with you guys as of late," Karen said with a devilish smile on her face.

"Nope... No... No... No need to flip your switch on, boss. See... I am going," Ellaine said and hurried her way out of the office.

As Karen watched Ellaine leave through the window, she was a little bit hesitant, but she still picked up her phone and read the message. And a smile could not help but bloom on her face again.

Smiling, Karen turned her face to look outside and found all the PR ladies looking at her through the glass window. After Ellaine walked out of her office, she told everyone about the message and Karen's reaction. Eager to watch it for themselves, all of them turned their head towards Karen only to find her lost in thoughts.

When Karen saw them looking at her with meaningful eyes, she got up from her chair and pulled the blindfolds.

'HUfff... There is no privacy here,' Karen thought to herself as she leaned back on her chair.

Staring at the ceiling as she swayed on her chair, the thought of Alex crawled back in her mind.

'I guess jealousy got the better of me today,' Karen pondered over her actions today. She just wanted to be a little playful today with Alex. It was not her intention to pry into him too much. But one thing led to another, and she ended up regretting everything.

'But why now of all times? How long has she known him to like him, to get jealous over him? And why is he the one?'

Karen had questions but no answer.
