Chapter 233: The Imperial Courtesan

Malika, sitting on the sofa stared wistfully at the window as she watched the sun dip below the horizon. The clouds seeped reddish tints across the sky until it darkened and the crescent moon appeared.

Sighing softly, she suddenly jolted out of her seat and then stood still for a moment before exiting her chamber. Walking down the dim corridor, she set out to lord Zamiel’s chamber. She needed to see him, yearned for his nostalgic touch and his addictive voice.

She wanted nothing more than being cuddled up in his arms while she leaned her head against his chest and filled her nose with his cologne. The mere thought of seeing him again made her cheeks heat up with a red tinge brushing over her skin.

Skipping through the corridors with a dazed smile playing on her lips, she heard the faint sound of heels clinking against the marble floor sharply. Gasping, she moved her feet back to avoid being in sight.

Poking her head out, she caught a glimpse of a woman ascending the stairs and from her observation she could tell that she was a vampire, a very stunning one indeed.

Standing near the rails, Malika hid her figure behind a pillar as she watched the vampiress ascend the stairs. Her wavy black hair with a highlight of purple swayed behind her elegant frame as she moved, her siren eyes darting around the vicinity with every stride she took.

Waiting eagerly for the mysterious vampiress to pass by, she tapped her fingers rhythmically on the rails. Although, there would have been no situation with her roaming about the castle, she decided to keep her whereabouts discreet as the last thing she wanted was a rumour of her visiting lord Zamiel at night to do unholy things flying across the kingdom.

Technically, she wanted to but the entire kingdom hearing of it was was a different story. While waiting around, she broke her gaze from the woman for a second but when she returned it, the woman was nowhere to be seen.

Sighing in relief, she was about to proceed with her journey when she heard a voice resonate through the air behind her in an effortless drawl.

"Looking for me, darling?"

Veering around, her eyes met the sharp crimson ones of the vampiress who was supposed to be on the stairs, but there she was standing in front of her with a lopsided smirk curving her dark purple lips up.

"I wonder why you were watching me, would you care to share your reason?" The vampiress queried, her sharp gaze hunting her every movement as she scrutinized her from head to toe with an apparent distasteful look.

She was tall, at least taller than her as she looked down at her petite figure. The vampires towering above her was slightly intimidating but Malika refused to be intimidated by her as she raised her chin up with a defiant look in her eyes, the power surging within her suddenly eliciting a confidence in her.

"I wasn’t watching you, I was waiting for someone." Malika lied confidently as she locked her gaze on her.

The vampiress’s eyes narrowed on her as if surveying the truth in her eyes.

"May I know your name?" She asked, her voice a tad softer but the malevolence in her eyes was too discernable to fool her.

"Malika." She replied.

As her name rolled off her lips, the vampiress’s pupil dilated and her breath hitched, her composure threatened to shake but in the next heartbeat, she regained herself as she moved two steps away from her, a half-hearted smile breaking through her lips.

"I’m Valerie, Lord Zamiel’s imperial courtesan, to be more precise I’m his favorite mistress." The woman introduced herself with an air of authority, but even as confident as she tried to play out, a whiff of nervousness could be sensed from her. Her confidence shook like her convicted place in the castle.

Meanwhile, Malika was in too much of a stunner to speak at the unexpected presence who had introduced herself as lord Zamiel’s mistress, she gulped down the painful, bitter bile clogging her throat as she nodded. Jealousy was rapidly festering in her heart.

"Oh, I see." Were the only words she breathed out in a barely audible whisper.

"I was on a trip, but even while I was there, I heard a lot about you, his newfound plaything and the reason he sent his mistresses away." Valerie spoke, her voice a symphony of mockery and pity, but a flicker of anger gave her vulnerability away.

"Well, I haven’t heard about you. You must not have been important enough if not a single soul mentioned your name in the castle." The words suddenly came blurting out of Malika’s mouth, even she was surprised by the words she spouted out at that very moment. She wanted to laugh, but she stifled it.

It seemed as though for a second, Rama had possessed her with her sharp tongue and defiant spirit, but she knew very well it was because of her newfound powers, she now felt invincible and even though she was wary of it, she liked the feeling.

Valerie’s face twisted with bitterness at her words, she could see desperation and anxiety in her eyes as she hissed "You have no idea who you’re dealing with little girl, you’re nothing but a plaything with an expiry tag on it, so enjoy it while it lasts."

Malika, unfazed by her remarks retorted back "The only one here with an expiration date is you but you’re already an expired product. I guess the rumors you were receiving about me forgot to inform you that I’m his mate and we’re going to be bound forever."

A sly smirk crawled its way to Malika’s lips as she made Valerie go silent immediately she spouted out those words.

Valerie’s body trembled slightly and her lips quivered even as she tried to maintain her shaken composure, but the shock and disbelief masking her face spoke otherwise.

"You shouldn’t spout your nonsense and poison my ears with your lies. If I find out that you’re lying about what you just said, I’ll rip your little lying tongue out!" Valerie snarled, her face turning beet red. ƒгeewebnovёl_com

Malika scoffed with a confident smirk dancing on her lips as she said "I’d love to see you try."

Valerie’s string of rationality broke, hearing the sleazy human talk back at her with no tone of reverence, respect, or acknowledgment, rather every word rolling off her lips dripped with a tone of defiance and confidence.

The fact that she retained no fear for her, hurt her pride and ego, making her lose it as a magical glint flashed across her eyes. Her hand immediately flew to her neck as she coiled her fingers tightly around it.

Her heart raced in a frantic rhythm as she struggled against the suffocating pressure of Valerie’s powerful grip tightening around her throat, the vampire’s fingers digging into her delicate skin and she laughed maniacally as she saw blood trickling out of the holes.

With fear and determination igniting within her mind, Malika’s survival instinctual response surged forth. In a desperate attempt to break free from the vampire’s grasp, she sought to wield her powers. As she clenched Valerie’s arm, golden wisps of raw, unbridled energy surged from her trembling hands, crackling and swirling with a radiant intensity.

The pulsating golden wisps, an embodiment of her innate angelic abilities, surged forth like a torrent of fiery embers. They blazed a path across her fingertips, illuminating the darkness with their incandescent brilliance. As they seared through the air, they made contact with Valerie’s icy skin.

The sizzling energy unleashed by her touch erupted into a blazing inferno on Valerie’s arm, scorching the pale flesh with a searing heat that rapidly ate through her flesh like a ravenous devouring flame. Valerie reflexively recoiled her arm in agony, hissing and snarling in pain.

Malika rubbed on her throat subconsciously, while Valerie’s arm slowly healed, her face a mixture of shock and disbelief at what had just transpired as she stared at the girl that had inflicted such damage on her.

"What are you?" Valerie queried between gnashing teeth, anger blazing into her red eyes like an inferno of rage.

"Think twice before attacking me again." Malika threatened.

Valerie on hearing her gritted her teeth, rage intensified as her chest heaved heavily with undiluted fury. She refused to be disrespected by her, regardless of what or who she was.

Noticing her arm was fully healed, she lunged with full speed, towards Malika who was unprepared for the attack as she had reasoned she would accept defeat and leave instead.

Bracing herself for the ugly impact of whatever the enraged Vampire would do to her, a blurry figure suddenly interjected between their fight as it grabbed Valerie’s arm and viciously shoved her aside like a rag doll. Her body collided against the wall with a brutal impact, leaving a hollow dent on the wall.

Valerie coughed out blood as she fell on the floor, while the unknown man hovered above her, but even with his back facing her, Malika could easily recognize him. It was as if every inch of him was ingrained into her mind.

"That’s enough." His callous voice rang in a lethal tone before turning around to look at Malika.

His eyes softened when it met her own twinkling with ardor. "Lord Zamiel." She called with a timid voice as she gave him a demure smile.
