The Devil's Warrior Queen-Chapter 235: Vulnerable
Chapter 235: Vulnerable
Amidst the fervent kiss they shared, she fell asleep in his warm embrace, cuddling up in his arms as she drowned into slumber.
Her angelic features radiated underneath the moon as she slept soundly, her breathing soft and her countenance relaxed as he watched her with an unusual fondness flickering through his gaze.
Brushing a curly golden lock away from her face, he played with her locks before lying beside her, pulling her into his tight embrace as he nuzzled his face against the nook of her neck, inhaling the scent of her hair and the lavender fragrance of her body.
Her scent lulled him to sleep as he closed his eyes and succumbed to the soothing warmth of her embrace and the serenity of being in her arms.
The sun peeked out of the clouds as a new dawn arose, she woke up to see lord Zamiel sleeping peacefully beside her with his hands wrapped around her waist and her back pressed against his hard chest.
At first, her heart raced against her ribcage as a wrecking ball slammed against a house when she thought for a split moment that they had had sex the previous night, until her brain rebooted and she remembered it was only a kiss.
She squealed in displeasure, inwardly smacking herself for the fact that she had fell into slumber while they had been kissing when it was obviously a heated moment, a moment that would have led to an insurmountable amount of pleasure, but she had ruined it. It was mortifying beyond words, but now she couldn’t cry over spilt milk, so she consoled herself with the thought that there was still time for more tries.
Rolling to the side, his sleeping face came into her view and a faint smile brushed her lips as she goggled at the magnifying man.
Surveying his face like an art piece crafted from the finest stones, she swooned in admiration as she supported her head up with her chin resting on her hand as she watched him.
His usually hard face that seemed to be carved from steel itself was now softer and more relaxed. Rather than the stoic demeanor he possessed, he now had a peaceful one as he slept.
Tempted to touch him in his subconscious state, she hovered her fingers above his face, but when she saw his brows crease slightly she withdrew her hand back.
But then, something strange happened.
At first, his brows creased slightly and then it relaxed, but in the next second, his face twisted in discomfort and a soft groan left his lips as his chest rose and fell with an elevating impact, a testament to the discomfort he was facing.
Panic etched on her face as she sat up with confused eyes, pondering on what was wrong with him. It seemed like he was having a nightmare and it seemed disturbing, disturbing enough for him to be in such a state of turmoil even in his subconscious position.
She thought of shaking him to wake him up, but when her hands came into contact with his searing body, his skin was burning hot and feverish, it burned her palm with a flaming sizzle and then she reflexively recoiled her hand with a painful hiss.
Her racing heart thudded louder than the chaotic thoughts in her head as she watched in disarray while he had a nightmare. His nightmare seemed to have a severe impact on his mental and physical condition to the extent that it stimulated his infernal powers. She deemed herself lucky to not have been burned to crisps when she touched him since he had lost control of his powers.
Realizing she could get hurt in the state of his nightmarish situation where he lost potential control of his powers, still, she was still beside him as she tried to wake him up.
"Zamiel?" She called softly. freewebnσvel.cøm
Immediately her airy voice floated into his ears she saw his eyelids twitch, as if he was trying to wake up.
Fear gripped at her heart as she realized how difficult it was for him to wake up from the nightmare that was haunting him. She wondered what it could be. Definitely it did not appear to be concerned with his sister’s death, she noticed it seemed more like he was in a profound conflict, as if fighting off something.
Seeing how he responded to her voice, she called him again "Zamiel..."
Immediately she called him for the second time, his bloodshot eyes flared open to reveal bloodthirsty, feral ones and in the next millisecond which she could barely prepare herself for, his strong hands flew to her neck, effortlessly dragging her off the bed as he pinned her roughly to the wall.
She whimpered in fear as his powerful clasp around her throat tightened, making it hard for her to breathe as she wheezed painfully in between the harsh breaths she took.
Even though he was awake, he still seemed to be half unconscious as his bloodshot eyes bored into hers with a lethal dark essence she never would have fathomed he retained.
A malicious growl left his lips, his body trembling with a feverish heat as he squeezed the air out of her lungs, draining her. At that moment he portrayed a guttural side of him that made her limbs go immobile with dread.
She was scared, scared to the marrow of her bones as she saw that demonic look in his eyes, that melancholic aura that clouded him of faintly now intensified with every painful breath she took. She could feel her heart pounding louder than ancient drums as the hands of fear and desperation clawed around it, gripping and squeezing.
His eyes, once windows to the warmth and affection he felt toward her were now masked with a shadowy essence, like an empty soulless abyss where he was still trapped in his nightmare.
Tears trickled down her face as she weakly croaked out his name while he squeezed the life out of her "Z-Zamiel."
Her voice like a tender hand pulling him out of his subconscious state of nightmare, snapped him back into reality as he suddenly released her from his hold.
Slumping on the floor, she coughed out severely, wheezing amidst coughs as she gasped air into her lungs, while she instinctively rubbed on her sore throat.
Watching her as she trembled in fear, with tears trickling down her face, no one needed to reveal to him what he had done. As a result of the recurring hell he was usually trapped in whenever he fell into a deep slumber and was left vulnerable to the manipulation of his mind by the dark forces within him, the sinister entities he embodied threatened to poison his mind and soul, in a bid to lure him away from the light she possessed and back to his darkness.
Guilt mirrored his crimson orbs as he crouched down to her level "Malika...I’m sorry."
She swallowed softly as she tilted her head up to look at him, her lips quivering in fear and her amber eyes glistening with unshed tears and horror portrayed to him in that moment, of his nature as a monster.
"I-It’s fine. Are you alright?" She said, her voice trembling with apparent fear even as she tried to act confident. She was terrified of the monster she had seen him display in those few moments as his demonic essence controlled him.
"I am, you can leave." He said with a straight face, but the guilt and remorse tearing through his facade was perceptible.
Standing up slowly, she walked to the door and glanced back at him one last time before proceeding to leave. Turning the knob over, she looked at the door before mechanically turning back as she hugged him from behind, resting her head on his broad shoulders.
"I was scared but I won’t hate you." She whispered behind him as her grip on his waist tightened.
Silence sated the air until she broke it "What happened to you? Were you having a nightmare?" She asked curiously, patting him softly.
"I was vulnerable, It’s always a conflicting war with my demons within, I should have known better than being that vulnerable." He explained, his tone remorseful.
"What made you that vulnerable?" She asked.
’You.’ he wanted to say, but he didn’t even though it was the truth, she had made him lose his guards down and his control over his demon essence, for the first time he had utterly let everything go.
Standing stiffly, he said "You should leave, I still don’t feel entirely composed." He warned calmly, making her slightly alert as she hesitated for a second before retracting her hands from his torso.
"I’ll come back at a later time when you feel better then." She said with a smile even tho he couldn’t see it as his back was turned on her.
"Don’t, I’ll come see you when I’m better, I promise." He said in a rather flat tone.
"Alright then, I’ll be waiting." She said, waving her hands at him until she disappeared.
Realizing she was gone, he let out an exasperated, drawled sigh as he pummeled his fists into the wall.
