The Devil's Warrior Queen-Chapter 413: At The Clock Of Midnight
Chapter 413: At The Clock Of Midnight
Falka was in a deep slumber when the maids barged into her room. Their gentle shaking brought her back into reality.
Groaning softly, her thick lashes fluttered open for her eyes to meet a few maids hovering above her.
"Milady, we need to prepare you beforehand for the wedding." One of the maid informed, but Falka was still slightly dazed as she sat up, running her fingers through her wild locks.
For a minute, Falka couldn’t comprehend where she was, but as she slowly regained her composure, the memories came rushing back to her.
Today was her wedding day? Today was her wedding day! Her inner goddess screamed nervously, but her outside demeanor was indifferent to the inner turmoil she felt on the inside.
Falka swallowed and not wanting to waste their time, she nodded in confirmation. "But the wedding was said to take place at midnight, right?" She asked.
The maids nodded "We are supposed to prepare you beforehand, it’s already late afternoon. Prince Ares said not to disturb you while you were asleep."
Falka smiled demurely, her face turning a light shade of red when she remembered that she would soon be wedded to Ares. Falka had never experienced having a romantic interest, obviously because she was locked up and she definitely never thought she would.
Falka had felt too broken and betrayed, she never thought she would find something of that sort, but maybe, Ares might be capable of pulling the strings at her heart.
Although, there was an odd connection between them, Falka decided not to delve too deeply into any feelings just yet. It could be a mistake and it would lead to her getting hurt and perhaps betrayed.
What if he found some other girl since it was a contract marriage? What if things didn’t turn out as planned between them? Falka’s intrusive thoughts kicked in as a million inauspicious possibilities ran through her head.
Falka decided to distance herself away from him, it was the only way to save herself from the pain of betrayal. She had only ever yearned for freedom, no other insignificant desires were included, so she would remain focused on it and refrain from getting swept off her feet. There was no place for love, she reminded herself and her smile swiftly dropped.
Throughout the day, the maids spent hours prepping her up for the wedding. Falka understood that she was the bride but still, it was all too much especially for a contract marriage. They didn’t need to put in so much work, all that was needed was proof of marriage.
Anyways, she had to play her part, so she endured through all the milk bathing, body dipped in scented oils and hair soaked in rich almond oils. Falka practically felt like a doll being played with by a child.
The sun quickly dropped to be replaced by the moon and with each second that midnight drew nearer, she became more agitated.
After all the prepping routine, the maids wore her a thin robe while they prepared her dress. They sat her down in front of the dressing mirror and proceeded with her hair.
The maids brushed her silky, flaming waves thoroughly and let it bounce down her back. Falka could see their eyes filled with compliments but they never said a word, perhaps they were afraid because of her intimidating features.
In deafening silence, they styled her hair with deft hands, working skillfully with her beautiful red locks as they braided and twisted until they created a beautiful spectacle of art on her head.
Her hair was styled to fall down her back in beautiful waves with a few small braids and twists, with crystal pins pushed into her hair, contrasting beautifully with her stunning red locks.
Afterwards, they applied subtle makeup on her face, highlighting her soft features and the dust of freckles scattered across her nose and cheeks. They were finally done and the wedding dress was the last touch.
The maids gasped in excitement at their work, even she too was impressed by how stunning she looked.
"You look lovely milady." One of the maids complimented.
"Thank you."
"Go on, get the wedding dress." The headmaid ordered and the other maid rushed out.
Falka on the other hand wondered how they had managed to prepare a wedding dress just one day after the wedding had been arranged.
Before she could ponder any further, the door shut open. Falka veered around, expecting the maid with the wedding dress, but instead it was the queen walking in with a mesmerizing silver white gown in hand.
Falka immediately rose from her chair as she bowed "Your Highness."
Rama smiled at the sight of Falka as she handed the dress to the maids. "I brought your wedding dress. It was once mine, but it will obviously fit so don’t worry." Rama remarked.
"Thank you for the dress, it’s very lovely." Falka bowed in gratitude.
Rama moved closer to her, placing her hand on her cheek with a delicate touch, she said "You are a beautiful bride, despite the fact that it’s not a love marriage, but it could grow into one, just like I and Draco’s." Rama noted and Falka’s brows furrowed in disbelief.
"Eh? But he seems to..." Falka trailed off.
"Worship me? It seems so." Rama shrugged nonchalantly.
"But...How did it grow into a love marriage?" Falka asked in an uncertain whisper.
"Get ready for your wedding, we can chat over tea in the morning, I’ll try to fill all your curiosities and questions to satisfaction." Rama implied and she pressed her lips in a thin line.
"I’ll be looking forward to seeing you walk down the aisle in that dress." Rama gave her a wink before exiting the room.
"I assure you’ll like the queen very much." The maid added.
"I’m certain I will." Falka said with a small smile, while looking forward to their tea chat in the morning. She had a lot of questions to be answered and curiosities to be satisfied.
Falka’s eyes narrowed to the dress the maid was holding up and her eyes widened in utter awe. She had never seen a dress so beautifully crafted, it was impossible not to marvel at the sight of it.
"It’s so beautiful." Falka muttered in a trance like state.
"We’ll help you into the dress milady, it’s almost midnight. The wedding bells would be rang soon." The maid announced.
Falka’s breath hitched in her throat as she realized the wedding would proceed anytime from now. Her insides wrecked with agitation.
The maid sensing her nervousness suddenly spoke out "There’s no need to be afraid milady, although I heard Prince Ares is a beast in bed. I’d be nervous too, but more excited."
The maids giggled, their faces red as they blushed and they quickly lost themselves in their blabberings about Ares "Like father, like son." Another maid chipped in.
"You’re so fortunate, I’d kill to be in your place." They swooned, sighing dreamily.
"That’s not the reason I’m nervous." Falka whispered and they suddenly stopped talking. freewēbnoveℓ.com
"We understand, there’s a lot of reason to be, but you’ll also have to perform your duties as a good wife, please your husband and bear a child to continue the lineage." The headmaid implied.
"It’s a contract marriage, Ares said I don’t have to perform any marital duties." Falka shot at them defensively.
"Well then, will you be okay with someone else performing them and taking over your place? Will you be able to bear to watch another woman with your husband despite it being a contract marriage?" The headmaid queried.
Falka remained speechless for a moment. She was resolute on not caring about anything else but her freedom, so she shouldn’t care about him being with someone else, but she did and she hated the feeling, because it made her feel vulnerable and open to weakness.
"It would sting, wouldn’t it?" The headmaid questioned rhetorically, but she didn’t say anything else, no defensive retort or denial, because she knew it would.
"It’s time to get you dressed up." The headmaid said as she readied the shimmering dress.
The maids helped her into the layers of dress and when she looked in the mirror, her breath caught in her throat out of awe. She indeed looked like a bride and a very stunning one at that, also, the dress fit perfectly.
"I’m envious of you milady, you get to live a perfect life with Prince Ares. All the maidens would be furious." One of the maids said.
Falka chuckled softly, "You only see the beauty in the outside, you forgot to see the ugliness inside. There is no beauty in the dark, only terror. So rather than become jealous be thankful that you’re not in my position, no one would ever wish to be." Falka remarked, leaving the maids rather stupefied and speechless.
Falka remembered the warnings Ares gave to her the other night, how could she forget? It truly made her frightened for what fate had in store for her, for them.
As the maids put the veil over her head, the castle bells suddenly rang, indicating that it was midnight.
At the clock of midnight, the wedding commenced.
"It’s time, milady." The maid announced.
