Chapter 178: Pregnant?

Elara kicked the sofa as hard as she could, sending it a few inches away, but it was still not enough to calm her anger, and she took a deep breath before looking at Sophia.

"I had been holding back because I still had some respect for your family, but mark my words, Sophia Lloyd, from today onwards, you guys are my enemies," Elara said before she pointed her fingers at her.

"Now only God can save you from what’s going to come for you. Protect your daughter because she is the easiest target for me." Elara looked straight at Carla with red eyes, making the girl step back involuntarily.

"Elara, calm down. You don’t mean that. If it’s about the paradise project, you can take it back. Let’s not extend this and worsen things more than they already are," Andrew tried to coax Elara, but she only chuckled.

The dark chuckle made Andrew purse his lips, but he knew if he didn’t make a move now, he would never be able to coax her into believing him.

"Paradise project? Do you think this is about this project that we Frosts can get anytime? It’s about humiliation. I let you and your family walk all over me for three years, and even after the divorce, your greedy mother found a way to act like a leech." Elara didn’t hold back in her words.

"Elara, listen to me—" Andrew tried to comfort her, but Sophia interrupted him.

"Andrew! You don’t need to talk to this bitch. Didn’t you hear what she said? She called your mother greedy and a leech. She practically threatened your sister. How can you still think of talking to her?" Sophia asked.

Andrew felt like his head was buzzing from all the words thrown around him.

He wanted to tell his mother that Elara might’ve said it wrongly, but didn’t she do exactly what Elara said? However, knowing it would hurt his mother more, he pressed his lips into a thin line.

"Don’t start with it, Mother. You were wrong here. You shouldn’t have gone to her house and said those words. We all know how much Elara loved me and had shown her utmost loyalty to us," Andrew said.

He turned to Elara and took hold of her shoulders.

"Elara, please calm down. I know what happened was unfortunate. I apologize on behalf of my mother." Andrew looked at Elara earnestly, his eyes full of hope and plea.

"Please rest assured, the Paradise project will remain with the Frosts, and no one will ever question your character. Trust me, Elara. I am with you in this. Give me one chance to improve it all. That’s all I am asking," Andrew said, and Elara clenched her teeth.

She was about to speak when Beatrice stepped forward.

"Andrew, I know Elara is angry, and you want to calm her first, but she shouldn’t have said those words to Aunt Sophia. She is still an elder," Beatrice said.

Sophia immediately chimed in.

"Oh my, thank you for siding with me, dear. I can’t believe my son, whom I raised with so much patience and love, would stand against me and side with the woman who cursed his mother like this," Sophia said, wiping her invisible tears.

Andrew looked at Beatrice, who wasn’t making it easy for him and was only making the situation worse. His gaze moved to Elara, who looked at him with a neutral expression, as if silently asking what he would do in this situation.

He wanted to take her side. Heck, his heart, mind, and soul knew that his family was in the wrong this time. He might’ve acted like an inconsiderate and negligent husband, but as a human, he could see the truth right before him.

"Mom, please don’t stretch it," Andrew said, stepping closer to Elara to everyone’s surprise.

"Please believe me, just this once. I’ll make it right." Andrew looked at Elara earnestly, holding her hand between his.

Elara looked at his apologetic expression. One thing was clear: Andrew had no idea about this deal and was equally unaware of what his family was thinking.

She took a deep breath. For a second, she felt bad for him, not because she suddenly forgave him but because she sympathized with him.

"You know, I really feel sorry for you. I used to think your family didn’t like me because of my humble background, but now that I look at you, I don’t think they ever liked you either. I don’t blame you for this particular incident, but don’t expect me to forgive your mother for what she did," Elara said before removing her hand from his grip.

"If there’s one thing that I can’t bear, it’s seeing my parents worry about me. That was the reason I kept my identity hidden for so long. But you guys always cared about money. And now that I think about it, I am glad for that one night that opened my eyes and made me divorce you." Elara smiled at them.

Andrew’s pupils dilated. That night. She mentioned that night again.

For him, this was the right opportunity to ask what exactly happened that night. He had been going in circles thinking about what went so wrong, but he couldn’t come up with a plausible explanation himself.

"Elara, you always say that you went through it all because you loved me, but that one night changed everything. I know it was the night of our third anniversary. What happened that night? I know it’s not about the tabloids. Please tell me the truth. I deserve to know," Andrew said, getting on his knees as he held her hand in hope and pleaded.

Elara’s heart squeezed painfully at the sight, at the thought of what she lost that night and what kind of pain she had to go through.

"That night when you were accompanying Beatrice because of her sprained foot, I lost—" Before Elara could complete her sentence, Beatrice suddenly called out Andrew’s name.

"Andrew–" Beatrice extended her hand towards him before she fell to the side.

Andrew’s eyes widened when he saw her almost hit the side of the cupboard.

"Beatrice!" Andrew quickly stood and walked to her when he saw blood dripping from the side of her head.

Everyone panicked immediately. She was standing just fine. What happened out of nowhere?

"What’s going on here?" William, who had been out to meet a friend for a scoop, returned and saw the mess in the living room.

His eyes lit up when he saw Elara standing there, but then his gaze moved to Andrew, who was holding Beatrice in his arms, and his expression turned grim.

"Elara—" William started to catch her attention, but Elara’s gaze was fixated on Beatrice.

Andrew looked up at the sound and turned to look at Elara, who had been digging her nails in her palms so tightly that blood started dripping from her hands. His pupils dilated, and he looked to and fro between Beatrice and Elara.

"Carla, ask the butler to start the car and have Beatrice sent to the hospital." Andrew stood to walk towards Elara, but Beatrice opened her eyes softly and held his hand.

"Don’t leave me, please. I...it’s... I think I am pregnant." Beatrice dropped the bombshell on everyone, and Elara’s gaze hardened. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Andrew froze in his place and shook his head.

"No—no, Elara, this is not..." Andrew looked at Elara with wide eyes, but she just turned and left, leaving the man helpless and confused.
