The Ex-Wife's Revenge: Rise of the Real Heiress.-Chapter 184: Andrew’s cold behavior
Beatrice walked into Andrew’s office, high and proud, since the news of her engagement to him was already airing on national TV.
She politely greeted a few colleagues she was close to when she used to work as a secretary before heading straight to Andrew’s office.
"Miss Beatrice, Andrew, sir is not in his office," The secretary at the desk said.
"It’s okay. I’ll wait for him to finish," Beatrice said before she walked inside the office.
She looked around, a sense of accomplishment running through her bones. The same place she used to work at, hoping to rise in position, was soon to be her husband’s office.
Soon, she would become the lady of the man who owned this massive place.
The fact alone made Beatrice smile, and she walked to the large desk made of oak wood.
She looked at the black confidential file that was undoubtedly the file she needed to steal from the office for her uncle, so she would give her the information about her mother and let the marriage happen in peace.
She stuffed the file in her purse and was about to turn when her gaze stopped at the corner of what looked like a photo.
She pulled the photo out from under the files, her pupils dilating with anger when she realized it was Elara’s photo.
The urge to crumble the photo took over her, but she didn’t want to do anything that would push suspicion towards her, and sighed.
She walked around the table and bent slightly, touching the inside of the table until she found the microchip that her uncle had been using to stay one step ahead of Andrew.
As soon as she pulled the chip out, the room swung open, and Andrew stepped inside, followed by Jason.
"What are you doing here?" Andrew’s tone carried a hint of hostility that he was barely suppressing, and Beatrice swallowed hard.
"I was stopping by to let you know your mom is taking me shopping later. Please ask her to stop. I already have everything I would need for the engagement," Beatrice whispered, mimicking a soft voice.
Jason barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes.
You wanted to be his wife so badly because of his status and money, and now you want to act like you are some hoarder? What a true case of hypocrisy mixed with irony. Jason thought, his gaze observing her.
"What’s in your hand?" Jason asked.
Beatrice extended her hand immediately.
"My earrings fell off earlier, and when I bent to pick them up, I saw this attached to the inside of the table," she said.
Jason walked to her in long strides before practically snatching the microchip bug from her hand.
"Sir, it’s a microphone. Someone has been keeping a tab on your activity. I think this is exactly how they knew about our proposal," Jason said.
Andrew’s gaze remained plastered on Beatrice for some time, making the girl uncomfortable under his watchful gaze.
"Ask the security team to check each and every corner of my office, the conference room, and the board room. Leave no meeting room unturned if that’s what it takes them to check it thoroughly," Andrew said, still not letting his gaze away from Beatrice.
"Are you done here?" He asked.
"Y-yeah, I was hoping if we could have—"
"You can leave then. Have some rest," Andrew said, leaving no room for any argument, and Beatrice smiled bitterly before nodding and leaving the room.
Once Beatrice was out of sight, Jason arched his brows.
This was the first time he had seen his boss so cold to someone, especially Beatrice, whom he claimed was his best friend, but who always looked like so much more.
Wait. Could it be that his boss had some kind of marriage syndrome? After all, he treated Miss Beatrice like she was a celebrity and always cared about her, but now that she was about to get engaged to him, he was rude and cold to her.
Similarly, when she was married to him, he never thought about caring for her and even deliberately hurt her time after time, but now that she was out of the picture and not involved with him, he was rather obsessed with her.
Jason looked at his boss, considering the possibility that it didn’t look completely false.
He saw Andrew walk around the table before he bent and watched his table, observing everything like a hawk.
"Sir, what’s going on in your mind? You are acting out of character," Jason commented.
Andrew looked at his secretary.
"And what’s my character exactly?" He asked.
Stupid and easily fooled? One who is easily influenced and manipulated? But more than that, someone who used to worship Miss Beatrice.
Jason smiled, thinking of all the thoughts that would definitely get him kicked out of the company.
"You were a bit harsh on Miss Beatrice,"
"Wasn’t that something you always wanted to happen?" Andrew fired back.
"Yes, but not like this. I wanted you to side with your wife, Miss Elara, and hear her out. Stop always putting her in the spot or doubting her intentions. But now that she is not in the picture and Miss Beatrice would be the next lady boss, how can I think of something like that?" Jason asked.
Andrew didn’t answer immediately.
"Is that so? Will she really?" His vague words made Jason, who was about to grab a file, freeze in his place.
Jason turned to his boss.
Just what exactly was this man thinking? In his five years of working with him, he has never been so unpredictable as he is now.
Honestly, he was finally starting to see a hint of the man Andrew had been before Elara ever came into the picture.
Cold. Rude. Calculative and a manipulative force who was moving the underworld in the city with his harsh decisions.
However, everything stopped when Elara entered his life. He turned into a family man, just not the kind who concentrated on his family.
Because he thought Elara grounded him and was like a shackle around his foot, placed by none other than his grandfather.
"The Paradise project file is not here." Andrew’s words snapped Jason out of his thoughts.
"Hmm?" Jason asked.
"It’s gone," Andrew said, shuffling through the files, his gaze falling on Elara’s smile in the photo, making him momentarily pause.
"How could it be? I kept the file here after we returned from the meeting because we didn’t need it in the last one," Jason said.
Andrew hummed.
"And I changed it," he said.
Jason furrowed his brows.
"What do you mean, Sir? You are making no sense," Jason asked.
"What I mean to say is I finally know who is stealing information from our company," Andrew said before he sat in his seat with a cold smirk playing on his lips.
