Chapter 34: An Old Legend [1]

The Wind clone Cael pondered what to do.

And true to his cautious nature, he decided to drag Luke into this.

After all, the more hands involved, the safer he felt.

But the problem was...

How would he tell Luke about this fake Luke?

Would Luke believe his words?

Doubtful.

’Looks like I need to drag Mira into this as well, since she can detect lies. Luke will believe her words.’

After making up his mind, Cael descended the stairs and decided to look for Lucian and Mirena.

Cael searched for them until he found himself in the hotel’s garden.

His eyes paused on Luke, who was also looking at Cael warily.

Cael’s violet eyes and Luke’s red eyes locked into a staring contest.

For a moment, the air between them felt heavy, as if the slightest movement would ignite a fight.

Both of them were on guard and ready to make a move.

"You as well?"

Cael asked with slight uncertainty.

Luke tilted his head and said,

"You too?"

At that moment, Mira entered the garden, looked at them, and said with a smile,

"Me three, hehe."

Even though they spoke to each other, all three of them still kept their guard up. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Cael looked at Mira and Luke and asked,

"Tell me... where did you guys hide my favourite collection cards when we were kids?"

Luke froze.

He did not expect Cael to bring that up.

Mira smiled and said,

"If I recall correctly... it was hidden in Luke’s bat—"

"ALRIGHT, THAT’S ENOUGH."

Luke shouted.

He didn’t want Mira to finish that word.

After all, it was his dark history. Something he desperately wished to forget.

Mira laughed at Luke’s reaction and said,

"Ehehehe... ha... You guys are the real deal after all."

...

Cael, Luke, and Mira sat at a circular table in the garden.

Luke was the first one to speak,

"Someone disguised as Cael came to me and said Kira Crimson is a vampire. And gave me a detailed plan to follow."

Cael inwardly nodded to himself and said,

"Same, but he or she disguised as Luke and said the same words. Kira was a vampire and had a detailed plan."

Mira sighed, then said,

"It was disguised as Luke and said those same words."

"But the problem is..."

Mira hesitated a little before saying,

"When he said Kira is a vampire, he didn’t lie."

"There are possibilities. One is that Kira is truly a vampire, or the second is that this person truly believed she was one."

Cael was happy.

He didn’t have to explain this issue.

He didn’t want others to know he had a lie-detecting skill as well.

For obvious reasons, if others didn’t know, they would let their guard down around him.

But what surprised Cael the most was how casually Luke took Mira’s words.

"I see, it’s just as we expected."

Those words confused Cael, and he pointed them out.

"What do you mean by ’as we expected’?"

Luke and Mira stared at each other, wondering whether they should tell Cael or not.

After a brief moment of silence, Luke spoke in a calm voice.

"Actually, we had our suspicions when we met her."

Cael tilted his head, still not satisfied.

"What I want to know is how you even suspected her in the first place?"

Luke shrugged, but smugly said,

"I had the ability."

Cael inwardly clicked his tongue.

He wanted to see if he could force it out and copy it.

But Luke was a tough nut to crack.

Still...

’What is the purpose of the disguise for meeting us?’

’What does he want to achieve? Not only me, but he even went to Luke and Mira to deceive them.’

’Wait!?’

A question suddenly surfaced in his mind as he asked,

"Guys, when exactly did you meet him?"

Luke and Mira paused their ongoing conversation and said,

"Maybe 15 minutes ago."

"Same."

Cael had also met him around that time.

A thought surfaced in all their heads as they simultaneously said,

"Clones?"

...

The next day,

Team Grey: Kira Crimson, Aria Jasmine, Caelir Vayne, and Edwin Dove, along with Team Sparrow: Lucian Vayne and Mirena Virella.

All six of them decided to investigate District Kazi.

"Let’s split into two groups."

Luke said and continued,

"Since Mira and I are Gold rankers, we will take the lead of the two groups."

"Mira, Aria, and Edwin will be Group A, and Cael, Kira, and I will be Group B. What do you all think?"

Cael shrugged.

"Fine by me."

Mira stared at Luke menacingly and hmphed.

"Whatever."

Cael was amused and thought,

’Looks like Mira is still upset about the idea.’

The others also agreed.

Then Luke continued,

"Since the city is big, let’s investigate carefully. Group A, you search the North, while Group B will take the South."

"Also, do not engage in combat unless it is life-threatening. Just avoid it. Life is more important than a mission."

"Good luck. Let’s move out."

After exchanging plans and details, the groups split up.

Cael, Luke, and Kira wore casual clothes that matched the antique style of District Kazi as they entered the southern part.

The streets were lively, yet something about the district felt strangely tense beneath the noise.

Then suddenly Edwin asked through the microphone connected to everyone in real time,

"Everything is good, but... what exactly are we searching for?"

"How do we search for kidnapped people? We can’t just ask people, ’Hey, do you know where they take kidnapped people or how they kidnap them?’ Right?"

Cael answered without much thought,

"It’s easier than you think."

"We need to make an initial breakthrough, like figuring out if the kidnappers have any pattern. And... why people won’t leave this district when there are so many missing cases and kidnapping incidents occurring."

"This is something that has been bugging me."

Then Luke also added,

"Cael is right. What we should search for now are abnormalities in the district and mark every suspicious place."

"We need to clean this district nice and clear, after all."
