The Extra's Reincarnation-Chapter 58: Restart (2)
In the grand foyer, Francine spotted her mother, Queen Azura, greeting the Everas.
Francine’s eyes immediately locked onto the young boy standing beside his father, Franz Ademir Monteiro Evera.
In all her lifetimes, he was and still is regarded as the prodigy of all prodigies, the one who would bring both glory and destruction to their kingdom.
He is a person not to be taken lightly and a person who shouldn’t be provoked at all costs.
As Francine approached carefully, she used her perfect imitation of childish excitement.
"Mother!" she called out in a high sweet voice.
Rushing to her mother’s side, she curtsied gracefully to the guests, bowing reverently as a maiden would.
"Welcome to our home, Duke Evera,"
Her gaze settled on Franz, and she offered him a shy smile.
"Hello, Franz. I’m Francine. I’ve heard a lot about you… and it’s nice to see you in person."
Queen Azura beamed at her daughter’s polite greeting, it was the manner that matched the standard of their family’s kindness.
"Francine, dear, why don’t you show Franz around the gardens while we adults talk?"
Francine nodded eagerly, maintaining her facade of youthful enthusiasm.
"Of course, Mother! I’d love to." She turned to Franz, extending her hand.
"Would you like to see our rose garden? It’s really pretty this time of year."
Franz regarded her with cool indifference. Even though he acted uncaring, his warm smile for Francine showed otherwise.
"Very well," Franz replied, his voice carrying a hint of boredom. "Lead the way, Princess."
As they walked towards the gardens, Francine could feel the weight of Franz’s gaze on her back. She knew she had to tread carefully.
As Francine led Franz through the opulent halls of the palace, she maintained her cheerful facade while carefully observing him.
His posture was rigid. He felt too relaxed, even in the presence of royalty, yet all he cared about was his surroundings as his eerie yellow eyes darted around, taking in every little detail with each stride.
"So, Franz, I heard you’re really good at magic already. That must be exciting!"
Francine chirped, infusing her voice with innocent curiosity.
Franz’s expression remained the same as he had heard the same question a million times over.
"I suppose, for those easily impressed by such things. I don’t really care too much about it,"
He sighed, bored out of his mind along the garden stroll. He seemed to look around to see if there was something else to do.
However, Francine blinked, feigning confusion at his haughty tone.
"Oh... well, I think it’s amazing! I’m still learning basic spells myself."
They stepped out into the sunlit gardens, the air heavy with the perfume of countless blooms. Francine gestured to a nearby bench.
"Would you like to sit for a bit?"
Franz shrugged, lowering himself onto the bench with graceful nonchalance. Francine perched beside him, smoothing her skirts.
-Now should be my chance. I’ve run through this route many times over, so it might be possible that I can pull this off.
"Hey Franz, I know we’ve just met, but I was hoping... well, I’ve always dreamed of having a royal blade to protect me." She looked at him with wide, hopeful eyes. "If by chance…. maybe would you would consider being my royal blade someday?"
Franz turned to face Francine, though his shock didn’t quite reach his eyes.
"Everyone in my family has been telling me about being the royal blade for sometime now. And thinking about it, it’s not like I have no interest in being someone to guard you, your highness, but I don’t think I fit the role as a royal blade,"
Franz sighed, looking up towards the bright blue sky.
"A royal blade should be someone who is like the knight in honor, or chivalry, like in the books. You see, my father wants me to be the backbone of this nation one day and I’m sure you’ll find someone who will do a better job than me, but from the words of my father, I am a mage who shouldn’t be bounded to protect anyone. So I’m sorry Princess and I hope you understand."
"Oh…"
Francine forced a smile, trying to mask her disappointment.
"Of course, I understand. Thank you for being honest with me, Franz."
-Damn it… just like in this life, it’s still the same. However, it maybe he’s always had the same kind of answer, whether it was through our final battle or when we were alone together, it was always the same result.
"Haah... whatever..."
Francine muttered under her breath and stood up smoothing her skirts.
"Well, shall we continue our tour? There’s a lovely fountain just around the corner."
Franz nodded gently, getting up alongside her.
As they walked, Francine couldn’t help but think of how this short meeting went, but perhaps it was for the best.

Franz’s rejection of her offer could change the course of events, possibly averting the disasters she had witnessed in her past lives.
"Franz, what do you think about the future of our kingdom? Do you have any ideas about how you might use your talents to help Aurean prosper?"
Franz glanced at her, a flicker of interest in his yellow eyes.
"The future? Hmm. I suppose I haven’t given it much thought. I only want to make my family proud, that is all,"
Francine nodded, carefully considering her next words.
"I see. Well, I can assume that you desire to be a commander of some sort… so as future leaders, I think it’s important for us to think about these things. Our choices will shape the kingdom, after all."
Franz’s brow furrowed slightly. "You speak rather maturely for a child, Princess."
Francine’s heart skipped a beat, but she kept her expression neutral.
"Haha… Do I? I suppose I can say the same to you. I mean, we’ve only just met, but you know me… I’ve just been paying attention to my tutors."
She laughed lightly, trying to deflect suspicion, but Franz ignored her completely as if he didn’t hear a single thing.
Finally the two reached the fountain, its crystal-clear water sparkling in the sunlight. Francine dipped her fingers in, enjoying the cool sensation.
"Franz, I hope that even if you won’t be my royal blade, we can still be friends. Our families’ alliance is important for the kingdom, and I think we could learn a lot from each other. I can assume that you’ll be entering Aethel Academy years from now, right?"
Franz was quiet for a moment, his gaze fixed on the dancing water.
Finally, he turned to her, his expression still unreadable.
"Perhaps, if it gets boring, then maybe we’ll see each other then,"
