Chapter 44: Pregnant?!

Later that same day, when Cheon Areum stirred awake once again, the scent of something warm and savory lingered in the air. Yoon Seoyul had already prepared a simple breakfast—nothing elaborate, but clearly made with care. A neat plate sat on the dining table, still warm, waiting just for him.

Cheon Areum sat in silence, head lolling slightly as sleep clung to his eyes. He stared blankly at the plate, not lifting a finger. Rian, already halfway through his meal, cheerfully cleaned off his dish and scampered off to get ready for daycare. Left behind in the growing quiet, Cheon Areum slumped back into his chair. Remembering his days as a lazy lord who was spoon-fed most of the time, his mood plummeted.

"You don’t like it?"

Yoon Seoyul spoke as he sat on the opposite side of the dining table.

"Feed me."

Without thinking, the words slipped out of Cheon Areum’s mouth. He wanted to take them back immediately, but before he could, Yoon Seoyul simply picked up his fork with a calm look and began to feed him.

And so, without another word, Cheon Areum finished breakfast on time.

After dropping Rian off at daycare—where, surprisingly, the little one had taken an instant liking—Yoon Seoyul drove straight to the guild building with Cheon Areum in the passenger seat. They parked in the underground parking as Yoon Seoyul got out of the car. Cheon Areum lingered after unbuckling, his hand hovering over the door handle. He had carefully chosen a black turtleneck to hide the hickeys on his neck and even thrown on a denim jacket as extra cover. Still, walking into the building was one thing—walking in together from the same elevator and heading to the office side by side? That would definitely give the guild members some... weird ideas. His fingers curled slightly at the edge of his jacket as he hesitated, standing just behind Yoon Seoyul.

"Areum?"

"You go first. I’ll come up a bit later..."

Before Cheon Areum could make up his mind, Yoon Seoyul reached out and took his hand without asking. He tugged him gently but firmly toward the elevators, leaving no room for protest. As they walked, Yoon Seoyul pulled out his phone with his free hand, pressing it to his ear as it rang.

"Joon, tell everyone to evaluate the building for the next 10 minutes, but they can’t come down—"

Cheon Areum instantly snatched the phone from his ear and cut the call.

"That’s just going overboard! They’ll find out later anyway."

"Don’t think about them then."

Still holding his hand, Yoon Seoyul spoke in a low voice. The elevator hummed softly as it ascended. The metallic walls reflected their faint silhouettes, close together—hands still linked. Cheon Areum’s gaze flickered to their joined hands, then down to the floor. As the doors slid open on the common floor, a few guild members lingered nearby, some glancing curiously their way. Cheon Areum instinctively looked away, following closely behind Yoon Seoyul as they stepped out and crossed the corridor.

"Good morning, Master!"

"Master."

Yoon Seoyul nodded, acknowledging the greetings. There were two other people waiting for the elevator. Cheon Areum, recognizing the voices, looked up. Shin Jia and Aera stood together, seemingly coming back from a gate. Shin Jia smiled upon seeing his face behind Yoon Seoyul.

"Areum! The new hairstyle suits you."

She exclaimed cheerfully. Listening to her, Aera also observed Cheon Areum’s hair.

"That’s a cute hair tie..."

The elevator opened at the same time. Yoon Seoyul pulled him inside with him, leaving a short instruction for them.

"Wait for another one."

The elevator door closed on their faces as Aera chuckled and Shin Jia glanced at them wide-eyed.

"That’s quite rude, you know..."

"....."

Yoon Seoyul didn’t respond. Cheon Areum tilted his head. Has he always acted this distant with the others? If he thought about it, Yoon Seoyul only ever talked about things that needed to be said. That’s why it shocked him even more after finding out both the villain and the female lead fell for him to the point they risked their lives just to have a chance with him. But it was definitely different for the people who knew him more personally...

"Master, Kim Ryung is waiting for you inside."

Joon stood up from his seat as they walked through the entrance door of the office. Cheon Areum unconsciously squeezed the hand in his palm as Kim Ryung’s face came into view. Kim Ryung sat on the single-seater couch near the window, his legs crossed and one arm lazily draped over the armrest. At the sound of the door, he slowly turned his head. Their eyes met.

"You should’ve taken more days off to rest."

"I have something important to tell you."

Kim Ryung got up from the couch as he replied to Yoon Seoyul. He appeared perfectly fine, as if nothing had ever happened. Unbothered, he walked up to them and handed a white envelope to Yoon Seoyul.

"Yoon Seoyul. I’m resigning."

"No!"

Cheon Areum yelled and drew Yoon Seoyul back from receiving the letter.

"Areum... I’m—"

"No! I’m not listening to you!"

Covering his ears with both hands, he hid behind Yoon Seoyul, not even looking at Kim Ryung, who was cut off mid-sentence.

"But—"

"Ahh!"

Screaming the moment Kim Ryung began to speak again, Cheon Areum peeked his head from the side of Yoon Seoyul’s body.

"If you apologize to me, I’m going to pursue Haeun. I’m not joking. I don’t care if he’s already committed to you—I’m seriously going after him."

He threatened with a stern tone. Kim Ryung blinked, flabbergasted, as he straightened up.

"Okay, I won’t apologize to you."

Cheon Areum, doubting for a second, slowly removed his hands from his ears as Kim Ryung continued.

"But I’m resigning.... because Haeun is pregnant."

Cheon Areum’s jaw dropped the moment his ears became free. The last thing he’d expected was to hear that Haeun was pregnant.

Pregnant?!

Since when had he been pregnant?!
