Chapter 320: 72 Hrs (5) Want You.

"You could finally let me go, is that not it? I was anxious, almost pulling my hair out over the fear that you would find me unattractive when my belly gets too big but then, you went beyond my expectations."

"In what way?" Ethan asked.

"You might want to guess, wrong? You didn’t wait until my belly was bigger than this before..." Shikera trailed off, burying her face in her palms. As if just realizing what she had been saying, she turned away from him, her shoulders hunched in embarrassment. "I am sorry...Uh, it’s—i forgot we were divorced and that my baby is..."

"You don’t need to apologize. I think it’s normal cause I read it in the chart over there," Ethan said, his meager attempt to brighten Shikera’s mood only dampening it all the more.

She raised her head to meet his gaze, a sharp glare in her eyes,

"You think all I said was nothing but a symptom of pregnancy? Everything I just poured out now?!"

Ethan shook his head, "No, no, of course not. Though I really thought some part of it were jokes because why would you have thought you stopped being attractive in my eyes just because of some silly—"

"So you still think I am attractive then?" Shikera interjected.

He nodded, the corner of his lips pulling up into a smile to show her his answer was genuine, "A very big and sure yes. That being said, why did you dress this way when you were only coming to pick me up? Did you meet someone before coming here? Or do not tell me you have to be somewhere when you leave here? A pregnant woman should not—"

"We are divorced, Ethan. That shouldn’t be any of your business." Before he could raise an argument to counter his words, she continued, "If you really do still find me attractive, why did you do nothing when we slept on the same bed last night?"

"What was I supposed to do? You looked like you wanted nothing but to fall on a bed and drift off to sleep. Plus touching you when I shouldn’t have was what brought us to this situation in the first place."

When she spoke this time, her voice was slightly lower than earlier, "And what about now? I am not tired and I am already pregnant so the ’situation’ cannot get any better or worser than it already is."

Ethan stared speechlessly at her, obviously distracted by the proposal.

"We are in the office, Kera. I work here," he managed to say, shaking his head slightly from side to side in an attempt to clear his thoughts.

Shikera inched closer, and when he didn’t back away, she took the liberty to slip one of her hands into his.

"Doesn’t that make it better? You won’t have any memories of me in this office when I leave, do you not want to make some?" she asked.

"You are not going anywhere, Shikera. Don’t—"

"Princess," she corrected him. "I asked you to call me that until 3 days are up but thinking of it now, you haven’t really been doing what I wanted. You left for work before I woke and even tried to turn me away when I came here, are you trying to get me to extend the timeframe to a week?"

Ethan’s voice was firm when he replied, "No, you are not extending it by a single hour more. Tell me what you want and I will provide it."

"I want you," Shikera deadpanned.

"Kera, you do not—"

She continued, "...to come with me to the hospital. I own your time so you do not have the argue."

A puff of air escaping his lips, Ethan replied, "I guess so."

"One more request."

"What is it?"

"Give the others the rest of the day off. They didn’t even take breaks like you did for the past few days yet they—"

"Alright, I will inform them on our way out. Can we leave now?"

"We can," Shikera grinned.

Watching her walk back to where she had kicked her shoes off while he wore his coat, Ethan muttered, "Is it me or has she grown more talkative? That wasn’t in the chart..."

Mignon eyes alternated from one face to another, not lingering on any for more than a second. When she was done studying their faces, she leaned back in her seat and asked,

"I thought one of you has gotten himself into trouble and needs me to plead for him but turns out that’s not the case. What is the problem?" She looked from Raymond to Enoch, sitting by her left and right sides respectively.

"It’s Ethan," Enoch was the first to reply.

"What? Did he fire you? That shouldn’t be surprising—"

"No, that’s not it," Enoch stated. "Just so you know, I am more capable than you think I am and the reason I came here does not relate to my work in anyway."

Mignon raised her brows, intentionally showing that she doubted her brother’s words were true. "What is it then?" she asked.

"Like I said, it’s Ethan. He said a week ago that I am not allowed to marry Ruth until his own wedding has successfully been completed. But next thing I heard is that he divorced Shikera, do you think I should still wait for them?"

"You were actually planning on waiting for him?" Mignon didn’t hide her surprise.

"No, I wasn’t," Enoch replied truthfully, "But with the look of things, I feel it would be inconsiderate of me to propose now when everyone isn’t actually feeling their best."

Nodding, Mignon turned to Raymond with her eyes narrowed in suspicions.

"And you? What do you want with me?"

He shrugged. "Just advice."

"On?"

"The best proposal method. And one that’s doesn’t take much time to prepare either; Cyprian would be annoyed if she hears that it took long hours to prepare."

Mignon tilted her head. "Shouldn’t that be the more reason why you should spend longer hours preparing the proposal? You could tell her she’s so special that you don’t mind exhausting time as long as it is for her," she said.

"Cyprian wouldn’t fall for that," Raymond replied. "She would prefer we spent those hours in the bedroom."
