The Fallen Hero Reincarnates as the Demon King's Son-Chapter 24 - 23 - History
Chapter 24 - 23 - History
Caliste observed Diana's ghost with a frown. The things she had just said were troubling, especially since it seemed that she knew a lot more than she would let on.
"Why are you making that face?" she said with a smile. "Did you think that you could hide your two souls from me? I might be the child version of Diana; however, such things are easy for me."
Caliste just squinted.
He knew that Diana's powers were extremely powerful and unique. However, for the child version of herself to notice such things, he thought that it was strange.
"So, who are you really?" she said, still smiling.
However, while she smiled, the tone in her voice shifted. It turned cold and distant.
"Be careful how you reply."
Caliste felt like he was an open book before the ghost. If he lied, she would know. If he hid things from her, she would know.
"I just want to know something before I tell you."
Caliste took one deep breath.
"Just how much do you remember about the war?"
It was a strange question. However, Diana did not mind it. In fact, she welcomed it.
"I remember most of it. Diana transferred most of her most important memories to me when creating me. So, I can tell you about most things that happened back then."
"And is there a chance that those memories were modified without you realizing?"
She shook her head right away.
"My master is the greatest magician and researcher in the world. She is the world's best scientist. She made sure that no one would be able to tamper with my memories. She even told me that it was crucial for the future that I kept my memories."
"Did she say why it was crucial?" Caliste asked.
The ghost frowned, trying to search within her memories.
"Something about the future and that the truth shall return one day... I don't remember exactly what it was, but... it was definitely about the future."
'The truth and the future...' Caliste's words were caught in his throat, his mind going in all kinds of directions. 'Did Diana already know that I would come back later? Is that why she created this ghost?'
Diana had always been mysterious. She never really talked with a lot of people about her life. She always kept things in the dark.
Even when others admitted their feelings for her, she would just softly reject them.
However, the same question kept coming back in Caliste's mind. A question that was not close to leaving his mind.

'Did Diana really know that I would reincarnate in the future? But how? How would such a thing be possible? Did she really not betray me?'
Caliste clicked his tongue, annoyed that he lacked so much information about the 100 years that had passed.
"So, you're convinced that no one has modified your memories, right?"
"Of course, I'm not stupid."
Caliste laughed.
"Why are you laughing?"
He shook his head. "You sound like her... it's troubling."
"Sound like her? What are you talking about?" Diana asked with a slight frown.
"Your master. You sound just like her. I guess inheriting her memories made you like this."
The ghost frowned, unsure if she had heard that correctly.
"Master? You know my master? But you're so young!"
"Shush. Not so loud."
Caliste knew that Fleur was right outside the door, probably trying to grasp the situation happening inside. However, Caliste did not want her to hear what he would be saying next. It was far too early for her to learn the truth. He needed to gain her trust first.
"You asked about my souls and who I really am, right?" Caliste said with a sigh, shaking his head. "I can't believe that the first person that I'll be saying this to is a ghost."
"Tsk, just say it, moron. Who are you?"
"I'm Caliste Henry."
Diana's ghost burst out laughing. "Haha! Good one! Who are you really?"
However, Caliste kept his expression emotionless.
"I'm Caliste Henry. I reincarnated as the Demon King's son 18 years ago, and ever since then I've been growing up."
She frowned. "Y-You're serious?!"
Caliste nodded. "Yes, I am."
Diana's ghost rubbed her forehead as she tried to think of something from the looks of it.
"Mhm... what was the last thing you told Diana before your death?"
Caliste smirked. She really wasn't stupid. She wanted to verify that he really was the one. If she was this careful, Caliste could be sure that the information that he was about to tell her would not spread.
"The last thing I told her..." Caliste closed his eyes as he tried to think of very distant memories.
He closed his eyes as he found himself in the Demon King's castle that was on the verge of falling apart. There were holes in the walls, rocks scattered everywhere on the ground. They were moments away from fighting against the Demon King.
"Caliste, do you really think we can do this?" Alek asked, sword in hand. "Don't you think we should go back and rest?"
"No. We need to keep going forward. We can do it... together. I have no doubt in my mind that we will win."
Caliste Henry looked around as he received worried gazes. They were all scared of the terror that was the Demon King, everyone except Caliste.
He exuded confidence like no one else. He was the main reason why they had gotten so far in the first place.
"Come on! We have a fight to win!" Caliste screamed as he began walking toward the entrance of the room where the Demon King had been patiently waiting for them.
But then, just as he was about to start walking forward, he felt a hand on his right shoulder.
It was Diana's.
She looked worried, almost with a look of sorrow in her eyes.
"I just want you to know that I've always believed in you, and that even if we fail, I will find a way for us to get our revenge, no matter how long it takes."
Caliste Henry smiled at her words. "Don't worry, Diana. The Demon King will be the one begging once I'm done with him."
Caliste opened his eyes again as he looked around him. He was back in the library.
'This memory...' He shook his head. 'Where did it come from?'
Caliste held his head as it began to hurt.
"I-I told her that the Demon King would be the one begging once I'd be done with him."
Diana's ghost's eyes widened. "Y-You..."
