The Fallen Hero Reincarnates as the Demon King's Son-Chapter 23 - 22 - The Library’s Ghost
Chapter 23 - 22 - The Library's Ghost
Caliste tried to look around, but he quickly realized that it would take literally days to find what he was looking for.
There were also little indications about where he should be looking at the moment. Everything seemed disorganized and placed in random places.
"How is anyone supposed to find what they're looking for?" Caliste whispered to Fleur, who also nodded, finding this completely ridiculous.
But then, as they took another step forward, a person appeared before them... however, "person" might not be the right word for it, as it was more of a ghost than a person.
The ghost had the appearance of a youthful child with long golden hair and golden pupils. She was wearing a long, white dress ornamented with golden stripes.
'Wait... golden hair?' Caliste frowned as he noticed this detail. He couldn't help but lower his gaze, trying to figure out who the ghost before him was, and when he gave a good look at the person's face, he froze.
He stood in place.
His mouth dropped instantly...
He couldn't believe who was flying before him.
It was the person he had been looking for. It was Diana... she was now a ghost.
However, there was something strange. She looked much younger than when Caliste had last seen her, which was impossible since 100 years had passed.
"Hello, you two. My name is Diana! I'm here to help guide you within the library. Is there anything that you are looking for?"
Caliste was too stunned to speak.
It really was her.
The voice was the exact same. That shooting warmth that no one else had. It was hers. There was no longer any doubt about it.
'How is this even possible in the first place?' Caliste thought with a frown. 'How is it that there is a ghost inside the Demonic Academy that looks exactly like Diana when she was a child?'
Caliste just stood there as seconds passed, not even registering the words she had just spoken. He just stared at her... mind boggled.
She flew closer to Caliste and Fleur's faces, staring the two of them in the eyes.
"Hello? Can you hear me? Are you looking for anything in particular?"
Caliste smiled slightly as he recognized Diana's personality for a moment. The arrogant know-it-all that he knew all too well.
She was the only person that Caliste did not hate yet, since there were definitely some strange things that had happened to her after his death. She was the only one that Caliste didn't mind giving the benefit of the doubt.
But, for everyone else, Caliste had said it before: they could all rot in hell for all he cared.
Shaking his head, Caliste looked at his surroundings again as he made sure that he really wasn't dreaming.
"Hm, yes. I am looking for books about... Diana, the hero from the past. Do you know where I could find such a thing?"
Fleur was confused at the request. After all, she had no idea why Caliste would be coming all the way here to find information about her. However, she guessed that it had to be related to the things he said on her 18th birthday.
The ghost of Diana frowned at the request.
"You're looking for information about my master?"
'Master?' Caliste was now the one in the dark about all this. "What do you mean?"
"My master, the person who created me. You're looking for information about her? Why?"
'The person who created you?' Caliste no longer had any idea what to think of this situation. It was just so strange all around.
He was confused; however, he kept a straight look on his face as he shrugged.
"Just curious about her past."
The child Diana clicked her tongue. "Well, follow me. You won't find any books about her here. After all, I'm basically an encyclopedia about everything regarding my master. If you need information about her, you can just ask me."
Caliste nodded slightly, as this made things much easier for him, as he wouldn't even have to search for information. He would just have to ask the child Diana.
However, there was one thing he was worried about.
That the Demon King had played with her memories, which would make her completely useless. Still, Caliste hoped that wasn't the case as he followed the ghost upstairs, where they arrived in a small room.
After all, ever since they had arrived, they had gotten glances from most people studying inside because of how loud they were.
Arriving inside the room, they closed the door as the child Diana waited for questions.

"So... what did you want to know exactly?"
Caliste gulped as he glanced toward Fleur, who had also entered the room.
He didn't want to kick her out. But he had little choice here. She could not learn that he was not who he seemed, and more importantly, it was not yet time for her to learn about the information he would be asking.
"I get it..." Fleur suddenly said before Caliste even asked her. "I'll wait outside."
"Thank you."
Now that Fleur was gone, Caliste and Diana were the only ones left inside.
"Ugh... my first question would be: Do you know where your master disappeared 100 years ago?"
The ghost shook her head. "No idea. All I know is that she created me shortly after the end of the war and then disappeared."
"Any idea of where she could have gone?"
"Anywhere, really. I have absolutely no idea."
Caliste clicked his tongue. "I see, well that's too bad."
Diana was then to ask the next question. "Can I know why you're so interested in my master? I can already see that you're quite special since there are two souls within yourself. One being corrupted while the other is in the process of being corrupted." She smirked, getting right in Caliste's face. "Who are you really?"
'Two souls? What is she talking about? How can a ghost even see such a thing?'
